4 – 3D ENHANCER USER’S MANUAL

1.INTRODUCTION
In purchasing the XXL 3D Enhancer, you have acquired a proessional Enhancement
System o the high-end class, which meets all the demands and requirements o studio
and live works. The sound precision and lexibility o the unctions are the main
outstanding eatures o this high-end unit. The 3D ENHANCER is our state-o-the-art
sound enhancement system oering a special combination o sound improvement
designs. The unit can be used wherever proessional sound improvement is required.
The XXL 3D ENHANCER is the no-compromise answer when the situation demands a
no-compromise solution.
1.1 Hih Technolo y
Our experience in the ield o proessional studios drove us to design the 3D
ENHANCER, an incredible small size Stereo Enhancer that is able to give answer to all
the demands in Studio, Live, broadcast and TV applications. All the electronics is
assembled directly on PCB with no wires use, it means less possibility o malunction.
All the internal IC are 4580, ultra High quality Operational Ampliier that allow high
current output with very low noise threshold. All the outputs are protected in order to
guarantee sae operating conditions in every situation. All the inputs are balanced
(except RCAs), in this way you can have the best matching conditions with the other
machines. The choice o having the external power supply ensure proessional eatures
with minimum noise, and allow you to drive the unit also with an external optional
battery pack to use the unit also without the presence o main AC power.
1.THE DESIGN
2.1 The INPUT LEVEL control
The INPUT LEVEL potentiometer allows setting the proper level of input signal in
order to not overdrive the internal stages o the unit. Veriy on the VU meter set to
“INPUT” that the level is correct (around 0 dB) otherwise adjust the level using the
INPUT LEVEL potentiometer. I your signal is ar rom the level you desire (too high or
too low), veriy the source signal amplitude and the correct setting o SENSITIVITY
switches on the back o the unit.
2.2 The BASS PROCESSOR control
The BASS PROCESSOR control determines the amount o signal used or sound
enhancement (rom O to Max). Turn the control clockwise or a more strong and
punchy bass sound. The setting depends on the application you are addressing.
Attention! Please note that the Bass Processor should be carefully set to avoid
possible speaker damage. Most near-field monitors could not be capable of handling
the bass produced by the 3D Enhancer.
5 – 3D ENHANCER USER’S MANUAL

2.3 The FAT BURNER switch.
The FAT BURNER switch allows inserting in your audio chain a powerful processor, which
is able to cut out, in a very smooth way, the bottom lower frequencies, which in the same
application, especially when you are using in an hard way the BASS PROCESSOR
and the PUNCH controls o the 3D Enhancer, would be able to overdrive your system
or to destroy your monitors.
2.4 The PUNCH control
The PUNCH control allows to create an incredible punchy sound, or every kind o
music and situation. It is able to give your music more bass presence, also i the original
bass requencies are very poor.
Attention! Please note that the PUNCH control should be set carefully to avoid possible
speaker damage. Most near-field monitors could not be capable of handling the bass
produced by the 3D Enhancer.
1.5 The HIGH SHAPE control
The HIGH SHAPE control sets the cut-o requency o the high pass ilter. Using this
control you can select the requencies that are routed to the 3 D Enhancer High
Frequency Processor.
1.6 The HIGH ENHANCER control
The HIGH ENHANCER control o the high band determines the amount o signal used
or sound enhancement ( rom O to Max). It would depend on the application as to
whether a high-quality system is to be given same more high transparency, or whether
maximum intelligibility is to be achieved in a relatively poor sound rein orcement system.
1.7 The METER MODE switch
The METER MODE switch allows to select the pick-up point o the signal sent to the VU
meter rom the Input Stage to the Output Stage. Because o this reason you can check
care ully the Input and Output level o your signal and you can be sure that no
overloadsoccurred during the process.
1.8 The 3D PROCESSOR
The 3D PROCESSOR is the heart o the 3D Enhancer, it eatures a knob control that
allow to chose the amount o desired process and a switch that inserts or bypasses the
3D PROCESSOR. Turning clockwise the knob control you can ill, with almost all kind o
stereo mixed source, an incredible improvement o the intensity o the stereo e ect and
the enlargement o the stereo basis dependent on the program content. There ore, this
unction can only be used in conjunction with stereo program material.
6 – 3D ENHANCER USER’S MANUAL

1.9 The PROCESS ON switch
The PROCESS ON switch allows to hard by-pass all the inside process stages o the
unit. When the switch position is out the Processor is bypassed. Push the switch to
activate the internal unit processor. I the main supply is removed or the POWER ON
switch is pushed out while the unit is working (the PROCESS ON switch is pushed
down) your signal will be muted.
INSTALLATION
3.1 Packa in
XXL care ully pack in the actory all its units and the packaging was designed to protect
the unit rom rough handling. Nevertheless, we recommend that you care ully examine
the packaging and its contents or any signs o physical damage, which may have
occurred in transit.
ATTENTION!
If the unit is dama ed, please do not return it to us, but notify your dealer and the
shippin company immediately, otherwise claims for dama e or replacement may
not be ranted. Shippin claims must be made by the consi nee.
3.2 Rack mountin
The unit its into one new standard “hal rack” unit o space (1 3/4"). Please allow at
least an additional 4" depth or the connectors on the back panel. Be sure that there is
enough air space around the unit or cooling and please do not place the unit on high
temperature devices such as power ampli iers to avoid overheating. It is also possible to
it the unit into one standard rack unit o space (1 3/4") using the optional RK100 rack
adapter that you can buy rom your Dealer.
3.3 Mains volta e
Be ore you connect your unit to the mains AC socket, please make sure that your local
voltage matches the voltage required by the external power supply o your unit! In case
that the label o your Unit trans ormer require a voltage di erent rom the one that you
have in your Country do not connect it to mains and contact your Dealer.
3.4 Audio connections
The jack inputs o the unit are ully balanced. I possible, connect the unit to other
devices in a balanced con iguration to allow or maximum inter erence immunity.
Please ensure that only qualified persons install and operate the unit. Durin
installation and operation the user must have sufficient electrical contact to earth.
Electro-static char es mi ht affect the operation of the unit!

5. APPLICATIONS
5.1 Durin replay
For this kind o application, the 3D Enhancer ollows the master or multi-track recorder,
inserted between tape machine and mixer (or ampli ier). O course, a cassette recorder,
or a Computer or similar, can also be used as signal source.
5.2 Durin recordin .
It is possible to use the 3D Enhancer not only during replay but also during recording.
This method o sound processing is recommended, in particular, i the subsequent
storage medium is o poor quality. When doing tape duplications, the enhancer signal
added during the recording will compensate or the loss in quality, which occurs when
several generations o copies are made rom the master tape.
In this case, insert the 3D Enhancer directly a ter the master output o the mixer into the
recording path o the master or multi-track machine. It is also possible to patch the 3D
Enhancer as an auxiliary e ect, not as an insert module. This in act could be use ul
because the 3D Enhancer modi ies program in ormation in order to enhance the signal,
inserting it across a channel will mean losing the original sound. So, i you bring the
e ect signal back on another channel on your mixer, it gives you more lexibility and
means you can bus more than one channel to the processor. For those who operate
only with a hard disk system, it could be use ul an additional set o two channel outputs
in order to record the 3D Enhancer’s sound separately to hard disk be ore adding it to
the original signal.
5.3 Live situations.
I used in P.A. and other sound rein orcement systems or background or live music, the
3D Enhancer o ers many advantages like or announcements and background music,
you can use it in a similar way to recording and tape duplication - directly be ore the
power amp. The intelligibility and range o your system will be improved and the sonic
image will become clear and transparent, even at low volume levels.
Problems caused by background noise luctuations, room acoustics (re lections), and
speaker setup can be solved more easily.
For instance, in discos or clubs you do not need to constantly readjust the high
requencies, as the place becomes increasingly crowded; you will be able to protect
your speaker system and the hearing o visitors.
Background music in bars and restaurants can be heard easily. It does not annoy your
guests because its volume had to be turned up too ar.
Another application possibility is represented, or example, by the enhancement o the
vocals o music groups or speech transmissions will be considerably more transparent
and intelligible, the instruments can be distinguished more easily. The bass will gain in
deep and power.
The 3D Enhancer will increase the speaker systems acoustic per ormance and its ability
to penetrate a room, particularly in places with di icult acoustics.
11 – 3D ENHANCER USER’S MANUAL

The system also needs less e ective ampli ier power, since the subjectively heard
volume level increases.
5.4 Hi-fi, Video, and DJs applications.
O course, the 3D Enhancer can also ind applications in the ields o hi- i and video.
The unit is simply placed between the signal source (cassette recorder, tuner, VCR etc.)
and the power ampli ier thanks also to the RCA connectors. We recommend using the
“tape monitor” inputs that most pre-ampli iers provide, thus the 3D Enhancer can be
switched into any signal source. DJs can insert the 3D Enhancer directly between their
CD player and the mixer or between mixer and ampli ier to improve drastically bass
power and high transparency.
