Yamaha F150TJR User manual

F150 JET DRIVE AVAILABLE
MODEL:
F150TJR
Do you need lots of outboard jet drive power, yet with durability, dependability, and lasting value?
Do you crave going where no prop-driven outboard would dare to go, like shallows, rapids, rocky
shoals? Then you want the new Yamaha F150 Jet Drive outboard! Quiet, clean, fuel efficient and
powerful, it will get you where you want to be, and give you what you want from an outboard. Its
proven design has what Yamaha outboards are most known for. Dependability.
PERFORMANCE AND FUEL EFFICIENCY
Yamaha’s marine-specific, four-cylinder, double overhead camshaft
design features a proven 2.7 liter platform for power and performance.
A streamlined cowling and intake system work in tandem with individually
tuned long intake tracks and our Precision Electronic Multi-Point Fuel
Injection to provide outstanding fuel efficiency with easy starting,
strong acceleration, and excellent top speed. And, there’s no need
to tilt the engine up for shore landings, because there’s no propeller
or drive unit extending below the boat.
RELIABILITY
The Yamaha F150 Jet Drive is based on Yamaha’s best selling outboard
of all time. Period. This success wasn’t given, it was earned; by providing
big power with outstanding reliability.
CLEAN AND MEAN
The F150 Jet Drive offers incredible fuel efficiency, and because it’s a clean
four stroke, no oil is burned as part of the normal combustion process.
This new F150 Jet Drive proudly joins its smaller F115, F90, F60, and F40
Jet Drive brethren in achieving a 3-star rating for ultra-low emissions from
the stringent California Air Resources Board. That benefits both you
and our waters.
LASTING VALUE
What’s the bottom line? Clean, easy-to-operate outboard power that can be used
almost anywhere there are a few inches of water. Freedom to explore where prop driven
outboards fear to ‘tread’. Freedom that comes from owning and operating one of the most
dependable outboards on the water. Freedom that comes with, well…a Yamaha outboard.
That’s what the Yamaha F150 Jet Drive offers. Adventure, with confidence.

The revolutionary Yamaha F150 EFI Jet Drive outboard is loaded with many exciting features that
deliver outstanding levels of performance, reliability, durability and economy. It all adds up to
tremendous value.
POWERFUL PERFORMANCE
Outstanding Fuel Efficiency
Independent fuel injectors deliver the precise amount
of fuel to each individual cylinder for superior fuel
efficiency and engine performance.
Smooth Operation
The unique twin balancer shafts incorporated into the
Yamaha F150 Jet Drive counteract vibration normally
associated with internal moving parts for smooth
operation. A labyrinth exhaust system helps keep
things quiet, too.
Reliable Performance
Each cylinder has it’s own compact throttle
valve that works independently with each fuel
injector to deliver the precise amount of air/fuel
mixture on per-cylinder basis. This highly efficient
design delivers quick response for faster acceleration
and helps increase fuel efficiency.
Dependable Charging Power
The F150 Jet Drive
uses a marine style
top-mounted alternator
for increased reliability. The high output alternator
puts out 28 amps at only 1000 rpm and an
incredible 35 amps from 1500 rpm to wide-open
throttle to help keep batteries charged.
Greater Reliability
The F150 Jet Drive cowling drain system takes the
water down and out, helping keep the engine and
intake air dry for added reliability.
Responsive, Fuel-Efficient Power
Individual intake and
exhaust camshafts
provide more precise
valve timing control and
have less moving parts than
conventional push-rod systems. This advanced design
also features 4 valves per cylinder which exchange
intake and exhaust gases more efficiently for awesome
power and increased fuel efficiency.

FOUR STROKE OUTBOARD JETS ARE SMOOTH, CLEAN, QUIET AND VERY FUEL EFFICIENT.
Yamaha’s jet drive outboard motors are specifically designed to allow boating in locations where
a propeller-driven craft is unable to operate, such as in shallow water, white-water rapids, over
sand bars, shoals, etc.
Because there is no propeller housing extending below the hull, the jet drive allows passage over
obstructions that would foul a regular outboard. Shore landings are more easily accomplished,
too, because it is not necessary to tilt the motor.
Yamaha jet drive design simplicity results in reliability of operation and a minimum of moving parts. Water is drawn into
the unit through the intake grille by an impeller, driven directly by the engine drive shaft. The water is then forced at high
pressure through an outlet nozzle that is directed away from the stern of the boat.
This action creates an opposite force, similar to that of a jet engine,
and drives the boat forward. When the boat reaches planing speed,
the jet drive discharges water freely into the air, and only the intake
grille touches the water. To obtain reverse, a gate lifts into position
over the outlet directing the pressure stream in the opposite direction,
thus creating a reverse thrust to propel the boat backwards.
