5.0 GETTING STARTED AND RUNNING THE MVP-01
For this demonstration, you will need: a computer, a monitor or TV with HDMI compatibility, a
source that streams video, 1 Ethernet switch or router, a Z3-MVP-01, a 5V power supply, an HDMI
cable, and at least 3 Ethernet cables.
To use and run the MVP-01, please follow these steps:
5.1 Setting up the Video Source
(1) Start a video streaming source, such as a Z3 MVE, DME, or MVPR product, or an IP Network
Camera to stream H264. When doing so, note the destination IP address and destination port
being streamed to.
(2) Connect that source to an Ethernet cable. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to an
Ethernet switch or router.
5.2 Connecting the MVP-01
(3) Connect the 5V power supply to the MVP-01 (do not turn it on yet though):
(4) Connect an Ethernet cable from the Ethernet port on the MVP-01 to the same Ethernet switch
or router used in step (2):
(5) Connect the HDMI cable to the MVP-01. Connect the other end to an HDMI monitor (see Figure
5).

5.3 Setting Up the Computer
(6) Set the network settings on the PC to ones that can communicate with the Z3-MVP-01
(a) The default value of the IP address for the Z3-MVP-01 is 192.168.0.65, and the default
netmask is 255.255.0.0.
(b) Set your network settings on your PC to the following:
IP Address: 192.168.0.6
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
(c) If you are using a Windows PC, open the IP Properties window of your PC. Though this may
vary depending on the version of Windows running on your PC, a typical sequence would be
something like:
(i) Find the “My Network Places” icon and double-click on it to bring up the “My Network
Places” window.
(ii) On the left side of that window, find “View Network Connections” and click on that.
(iii) This should bring up a list of connections. If the Ethernet cable is connected, one of
the connections that shows up is “Local Area Connection”. Right-click on this and
select “Properties”.

(iv) You should then see a “Local Area Connection Properties” Window. In this window, one
of the options is “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)”. Select this and click on “Properties”.
(a) Make sure this
is selected
(b) Click on this

(d) At this point, you should now see the “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties” window (Figure
8). Click on “Use the following IP address” and set the IP Address to the value you determined
in step 6b (default value = 192.168.0.6). Also make sure the netmask is “255.255.0.0”. Then
click “Ok” to save these values.
(e) If you are using Linux, you can set up an alias network address to match what you need. An
example of a command doing this would be:
# sudo ifconfig eth0:0 192.168.0.6 netmask 255.255.0.0

Set to 192.168.0.6 (or whatever
value you decide on that begins with
192.168.x.y and does not equal
192.168.81.68)
Make sure the netmask is
set to “255.255.0.0”

5.4 Configuring the MVP-01
(7) Power on the Z3-MVP-01.
(8) Wait around 30 seconds to 1 minute for the power LED to light up.
(9) Open a web browser (Firefox is recommended). Type in http://192.168.0.65. You should then
see the MVP-01 Menu (if you don’t see this, please see the Troubleshooting section on page 18).
(9) Set the input format to match the streaming source. Options include RTP, RTSP, MPEG-2 TS,
and MPEG-2 TS over RTP.

(10) Leave the output interface to “Component” (“Component” will work for Component and HDMI
in this version, while “Composite” only outputs to “Composite”).
(11) Set the IP address of the computer in the “RTP IP:Port” dialog box. Use the IP address and
port that you noted in step (1).
(12) Click “Start Decoder”
(13) You should see the status change to “RUNNING.”
You should now see video on your HDMI monitor.

APPENDIX A SERIAL CONTROL
The MVP-01 supports Z3's easy-to-use zPlayer multimedia software protocol through the console
port. zPlayer allows users to have more hardware control if they so choose. It enables complete
control over content playback such as looping and playback on external command. To use it,
perform the following steps:
1) Plug-in the serial cable (included in your shipment) from the Z3-MVP-01 to the PC.
2) Download and open TeraTerm. Connect to the proper COM port. Select OK.
Figure 12 TeraTerm Connection Screen
3) Setup the serial port by going to Setup>Serial port.
In TeraTerm, the settings are: 115200, 8, none, 1, none, 1msec/char, 50msec/line.
Examples of operating TeratTerm are shown in the figures below.

4) Power on the Z3-MVP-01.
5) After approximately 30 seconds, the following menu will be displayed:
6) Press “2” to change the input format. It can either be RTP, RTSP, MPEG-2 TS, or MPEG-2 TS over
RTP.
7) Press “3” to change the input URL to the IP Address and Port for your specific needs. Some
examples are as follows:
Unicast Example: 192.168.0.6:8888
Multicast Example: 225.1.2.3:8888
Note: Unicast is used to stream to a single destination, while multicast is used to stream to

multiple destinations. You can tell multicast and unicast by the address used. Multicast IP
addresses are always in the 200’s, while unicast always uses an address of 192.168.x.x.
8) Review all other options (1 through D) and update to your specific needs. If you do not know or
do not have any specific needs, the correct parameters are chosen by default. The IP
address of the Z3-MVP-01 is set to 192.168.0.65 by default.
9) Press “W” on the keyboard to save these settings. All user settings will revert to the original
default options if you do not save the settings when the Z3-MVP-01 is powered down.

APPENDIX B TROUBLESHOOTING
Problem: Web interface does not come up
-Is the Ethernet cable plugged into the Z3-MVP-01 solidly (do you see the link light on the
Ethernet cable which indicates data is being transmitted)?
-Does the MVP-01 IP address and PC IP address have the same first 2 values (or, if netmask is
set to 255.255.255.0, the same first 3 values)?
-Do the MVP-01 and the video streaming source have the same netmask? (Default value in the
MVP-01 is 255.255.0.0)
-Are all firewalls on the network turned off?
When contacting Z3 Support for additional support, please capture and include a log file with the
diagnostic level (option “!”) set to analysis.
Note: Our Express Limited Warranty will be void if the label on the hardware bearing the Serial
Number is removed, tampered with or defaced. You can view our full HW warranty at
