zTrack Pro LoRaWAN GPS Tracker User Guide
Introduction
zTrack Pro is a revolutionally small LoRaWAN based GPS tracking device. The
device is widely used to track pets, children, bicycles, elderly people, bags,
assets.
In case of average usage (2 hours of motion per day with 5 minutes sending
period) zTrack Pro can work for up to 2 weeks with one single charge. Charging
is done wirelessly by a Qi charger and it takes 1 hour to fully charge the device.
The zTrack Pro tracker has GPS and WiFi module (for device configurability),
an accelerometer and a temperature meter inside.

3 Hardware configuration
3.1 Status LED
There is a red LED indicator on the zTrack Pro to inform you about specific events
during operation.
The LED positioned on the left bottom section of the device:
The LED illuminates only in one color, so the different events indicated with the number
of blinks:
Blink count
Event
1 blink
Uplink message has been sent
2 blinks
Device wakes from idle mode (motion detected)
4 blinks
Downlink message accepted
Table 2. LED event description
While the device is charging via Qi charger, the LED lumination is inverted (LED is
constantly on while there is no event).
3.2 Battery and charging
The built-in LiPo battery can power the device for
around 2 weeks. Battery lifetime highly depends
on the device configuration.
The battery can be charged with any Qi-compliant
wireless charger. The device should be placed on
the charger with the “zTrack” logo facing upwards.
Charging takes approx. 1 hour. When the battery
is fully charged the LED goes off.

3.3 Device identifier
Every zTrack Pro is shipped with a unique 64-bit HW-EUI. This HW-EUI is engraved into the back
side of the enclosure:
For more information on the utilization of HW-EUI, please refer to the 4.Get started with the
device section.
4 Get started with the device
The zTrack Pro can be used with any LoRaWAN- network, service provider as long as it
complies with the LoRaWAN network standard.
The device is shipped without any LoRaWAN related configuration. To start using the
device, it must be configured first.
(If you need preconfigured devices, please contact our sales department at
sales@zane.hu).
4.1 Configuring the device
The zTrack Pro can be accessed and configured via WiFi connection. The available
features are:
•device specific settings
•LoRaWAN configuration (EUIs, keys, etc.)
•and firmware upgrade.
Necessary tools to configure a zTrack Pro:
•PC with WiFi and Windows OS
•Qi wireless charger
•zUtility desktop software (download link and documentation provided
at https://zane.hu/iot )

4.1.1 The process of configuring the device:
1. The zTrack Pro creates a WiFi access point only if it’s being put on a wireless
charger.
If the device detects 2 minutes of inactivity via its WiFi module, the access point
will be deactivated. In order for the access point to reappear, the device must be
put on the charger again.
The SSID is built up from the device’s name, HW-EUI, and which mode the
device is in:
Application mode SSID “zTrack_Pro_XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX”
Bootloader mode SSID “zTrack_BOOT_ XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX”
(Bootloader mode is used for firmware upgrade, refer to 4.2 Firmware upgrade
section for more details)
2. Once the PC successfully connected to the zTrack Pro via WiFi, the device can
be configured for device settings, LoRaWAN configuration, and firmware
upgrade with the help zUtility desktop software.
For more help on how to use zUtility, refer to ZD0061-003 zUtility User Guide,
available on https://zane.hu/iot.
4.1.2 Device settings
The device settings determine how the zTrack Pro behaves. These settings are highly
responsible the performance and battery life of the product.

Table 3. Device settings description
Tracking Time
The device activates the GPS tracking if the motion sensor detected any movements. When the
coordinates have been sent to the LoRaWAN network the device goes back to sleep for a while. This
setting determines the idle period between GPS messages. Shorten tracking time makes better time
resolution during tracking and needs higher energy consumption. Longer tracking time makes less frequent
tracking and longer battery time.

Keepalive Time
The time between regular keepalive messages. Keepalive messages only sent while the device is idle (no
motion is detected).
GPS Fix Time
The maximum time while the device can search for GPS satellites. Longer time makes more satellites
available, even if the sky is covered or partially covered. However, it may also increase power
consumption.
Shorter time preserves battery life, but the tracker may not find satellites in all cases. Recommended
general setting is 240 seconds (4 minutes).
GPS Accuracy Time
The additional time is that we wait for GPS stabilization after the GPS fix signal acquired. Longer time
results more power consumption and better position accuracy. For 10-20m accuracy, 10 second is typically
enough.
GPS Status
Status of the GPS module. When enabled, the tracker operates as intended. You can benefit from disabling
the GPS module, when you know you will be indoor for a longer period. This way the battery life can be
preserved.
Motion Sensor Status
Status of the motion sensor. When enabled, the tracker will be active on detected motions and operate as
intended. When the motion sensor is disabled, the tracker will only send keepalive messages.
Example on the operation of zTrack Pro:
- GPS enabled
- Motion sensor enabled
If the device is in “soft” idle, it will only become active when motion is detected.
Otherwise, the device will send a keepalive message every Keepalive Time seconds.
Once the device is active from a motion event, it will start to wait for a GPS fix for
maximum GPS Time period, and send the results via LoRaWAN (either coordinates or
no GPS fix event).
If motion was detected while waiting for GPS fix, the device will go into a “hard” idle
state for Tracking Time period. After Tracking Time period elapses, the device will
attempt to acquire another GPS fix and send the results. If no motion is detected, the
device will go into “soft” idle state again for Keepalive Time or until motion is detected.
