Hints and Tips
Condensation and steam
When foo is heate it pro uces steam in the same way
as a boiling kettle. The oven vents allow some of this
steam to escape. However, always stand back rom
the oven when opening the oven door to allow any
buil up of steam or heat to release.
If the steam comes into contact with a cool surface on
the outsi e of the oven, e.g. a trim, it will con ense an
pro uce water roplets. This is quite normal an is not a
fault with the oven.
To prevent iscolouration, regularly wipe away
con ensation an also soilage from surfaces.
Cookware
 Use any oven proof cookware which will withstan
temperatures of 250°C.
 Baking trays, oven ishes, etc. shoul not be place
irectly against the gri covering the fan at the back
of the oven, or place on the oven base.
 Do not use baking trays larger than 30 cm x 35 cm
(12 in x 14 in) as they will restrict the circulation of
heat an may affect performance.
The effects of dishes
on cooking results
Dishes an tins vary in their thickness, con uctivity,
colour, etc. which affects the way they transmit heat to
the foo insi e them.
AAluminium, earthenware, oven glassware an bright
shiny utensils re uce cooking an base browning.
BEnamelle cast iron, ano ize aluminium, aluminium
with non-stick interior an coloure exterior an ark,
heavy utensils increase cooking an base browning.
Cooling fan
The cooling fan operates uring cooking. Air is expelle
through vents between the oven oor an the control
panel.
The cooling fan may run on after the oven is switche off
to keep the controls cool. This is quite normal.
Before the First Use
Remove all packaging, both inside and outside
the oven, before using the oven.
Before first use, the oven shoul be heate without foo .
During this time, an unpleasant o our may be emitte .
This is quite normal.
1. Switch on the oven by pressing the "ON" push
button.
2. Press button twice. The pilot light to the left of
symbol will come on.
3. Set the temperature to 250°C using the "Increase"
button (push button ).
4. Open a win ow for ventilation.
5. Allow the oven to run empty for approximately 45
minutes.
This proce ure shoul be repeate with the full grill
function an the fan oven function for
approximately 5-10 minutes.
Using the Oven
Always cook with the oven door closed.
Stand clear when opening the oven door. Do
not allow it to fall open - support the door using
the door handle, until it is fully open.
 The oven has six shelf levels, counte from the
bottom, as shown in the iagram.
The anti-tip shelf has four small metal tabs on
its frame to prevent it from sli ing out from the

The Fan Oven
The air insi e the oven is heate by the element aroun
the fan situate behin the back panel. The fan circulates
hot air to maintain an even temperature insi e the oven.
The advantages o cooking with this unction are:
l
Faster Preheating
As the fan oven quickly reaches temperature, it is not
usually necessary to preheat the oven although you
may fin that you nee to allow an extra 5-7 minutes
on cooking times. For recipes which require higher
temperatures, best results are achieve if the oven
is preheate first, e.g. brea , pastries, scones,
souffles, etc.
l
Lower Temperatures
Fan oven cooking generally requires lower
temperatures than conventional cooking.
Follow the temperatures recommen e in the chart
at page 18. Remember to re uce temperatures by
about 20-25°C for your own recipes which use
conventional cooking.
l
Even Heating for Baking
The fan oven has uniform heating on all runner
positions. This means that batches of the same foo
can be cooke in the oven at the same time.
However, the top shelf may brown slightly quicker
than the lower one.
This is quite usual. There is no mixing of flavours
between ishes.
How to use the Fan ven
1. Switch the oven on.
2. Press the Oven Function Control button once.
3. If necessary a just temperature setting using
the "Increase" or "Decrease" buttons.
THINGS TO NOTE
l
The oven light will come on when the oven is switche
on.
l
The cooling fan will operate continually uring cooking.
It may run on after the oven is switche off to keep
the controls cool. This is quite normal.
NOTE
The action of the cooling fan will epen on how long the
oven has been use an at what temperature. It may not
switch on at all at lower temperature settings nor run on
where the oven has only been use for a short time.
FO 2079
F
FAN OVEN FUNCTION SYMBOL
PRE-SET TEMPERATURE: 175°C
TEMPERATURE SELECTION: 50°C - 250°C
Hints and Tips
Runner positions are not critical, but make sure the
shelves are evenly space .
When cooking more than one ish in the fan oven, place
ishes centrally on the shelves rather than several ishes
on one shelf.
When the oven is full, you may nee to allow a slightly
longer cooking time.
A shelf may be place on the floor of the oven. Place
ishes on a shelf in this position rather than on the oven
base, to allow air circulation aroun the foo .
When the oven is full of the same foo , e.g. equal trays
of small cakes or equal size victoria san wich cakes,
then they will be cooke in the same time an remove
from the oven together. When ifferent sizes of trays or
types of foo , e.g. biscuits an cakes are cooke , they
will not necessarily be rea y together.
The fan oven can be use to heat foo s through without
thawing first, e.g. fruit tarts, mince pies, sausage rolls,
an other small pastry items. Use a temperature of 190-
200°C an allow 20-40 minutes ( epen ing on the quantity
of foo in the oven).
The use of too high temperatures can cause uneven
browning. Check with the recommen ations for oven
temperatures given in the cooking charts, but be prepare
to a just the temperature by 10°C if necessary.
Remember to re uce temperatures by about 20-25°C for
your own conventional recipes.
The meat tin should not be place on a heate hotplate
or burner as this may cause the enamel to crack.
11
The Conventional Oven
When using this setting, heat comes from both the top
an bottom elements. This allows you to cook on a single
level an is particularly suitable for ishes which require
extra base browning such as quiches an flans.
Gratins, lasagnes an hotpots which require extra top
browning also cook well in the conventional oven. This
form of cooking gives you the opportunity to cook without
the fan in operation.
How to Use the
Conventional ven
1. Switch the oven ON.
2. Select the Conventional Oven Function by pressing
the Oven Function control button until the pilot light to
the left of symbol comes on.
Bottom oven element only
This function is particularly useful when blin -baking
pastry. It may also be use to finish off quiches or flans
to ensure the base pastry is cooke through.
Pre-set temperature is 250°C.
THINGS TO NOTE
During cooking, the cooling fan will operate in the same
way as escribe for the fan oven function.
CONVENTIONAL OVEN FUNCTION SYMBOL
PRE-SET TEMPERATURE: 200°C
TEMPERATURE SELECTION: 50°C - 250°C
F Hints and Tips
The mi le shelf position allows for the best heat
istribution. To increase base browning simply lower the
shelf position. To increase top browning, raise the shelf
position.
The material an finish of the baking trays an ishes
use will affect base browning. Enamelware, ark, heavy
or non-stick utensils increase base browning, while oven
glassware, shiny aluminium or polishe steel trays reflect
the heat away an give less base browning.
Always place ishes centrally on the shelf to ensure even
browning.
Stan ishes on suitably size baking trays to prevent
spillage onto the base of the oven an make cleaning
easier.
Do not place ishes, tins or baking trays irectly on the
oven base as it becomes very hot an amage will occur.
For faster preheating use the Fast Heat-Up Function.
Single level cooking gives best results. If you require more
than one level cooking use the fan oven function.
