The belt installed on the deck may be too short for proper operation and can cause
excessive friction on the pulleys. This can lead to belt squealing, smell of burning rubber
and/or smoke and could potentially cause damage to the belt.

Inspecting unit for proper deck belt operation
Tools/Equipment needed:
•Reference owner’s manual for tools required for initial set up
Step 1. Follow the owner’s manual instructions to install steering wheel, seat and battery.
Step 2. Fill fuel tank with enough fresh fuel to run for 20 minutes.
Step 3. Ensure the unit is on flat ground and the blades can safely turn without striking any
objects or debris.
Step 3. Start the unit per the instructions identified in the owner’s manual.
Step 4. Lower the deck height to the #3 position, press the brake pedal in and set the
parking brake.
Step 5. With the throttle control in fast position engage the blades for 30 seconds, then
disengage.
Step 6. With the blades disengaged and the engine running raise the deck level to position
#6 and monitor for belt squealing or rubber burning smell for the next 15 minutes.
Step 7a. If belt squealing or rubber burning smell is identified, stop the inspection and
replace the deck belt per the owner’s manual instructions. File additional warranty
claim referencing belt was replaced per SB2190001A.
Steb7b. If belt squealing or rubber burning smell is not identified, no further action is
required.
