2. To plug the micro-USB cable into Z920K device’s USB connector on the rear panel, and plug the other end of the USB cable into the
maintenance console PC’s USB port.
3. To launch the console utility and follow up the user guide step by step
Start Up
1. After installing the console utility, please click the icon “MH920 Console International” to startup
2. To select the right COM port and set it

6

Mesh Network set up
。 Make sure the following parameters of all of the Parent (coordinator) and Child node (router) to be the same for the same group.
1. PAN ID (group name)
2. Radio channel number
3. Network Name
4. Encryption key
。 Short Address for all of Child nodes ID must be different each other.

8
Communication Configuration
The bit rate means the communication speed between Parent and Child. Please keep at the high speed 115200 bps. Don’t change any
parameters on this page.
Protocol Setup
RS485 Modbus/RTU configuation
Make sure the protocol type as “Modbus (RTU)”
1. “Station number analysis” is an option if Child nodes are connected with Modbus sensors

9
2. A “Station no. list” has to be set with the sensors ID (Station number) corresponding to the short address of Child node and
“Save to module”.
For example:
。 Sensor Modbus ID1/ID2 are connected with Child node short address 0001
。 Sensor Modbus ID3/ID4/ID5 are connected with Child node short address 0002
。 Sensor Modbus ID6 is connected with Child node short address 0003
RS232 ASCII set up
RS232 (1-to-1) set up
Configuration:
1. Select “No” for “Station number analysis” on Parent device.
2. Make sure packet filtering is set at “Yes (notification type)” for Parent and Child devices.

10
RS232 (1-to-N) set up
Parent configuration:
1. The station number analysis needs to enable and setup the station no. table as the description on the page 7/8.
2. Please select “Other(ASCII)” as protocol type
3. “Start character code 1” and “Start character code 2” can be set by demand; The initial start character code1 setting is "25".
4. “Station number start position after character code” is to specify the number of bytes that follow the start position
character code.
5. “Station number store area”: Select the number of bytes (1 to 4) for the area where the station number is stored.
6. “Station number size”: Select the number of digits from the end of the station number (1 to 4)
7. “Station number type”: The format of (Decimal ASCII/Hexadecimal ASCII) can be selected for the station number.
8. “Delete the beginning of transmitted data”: While transmitting the data to the child node, can be set to delete the specified
number of bytes (0 to 15 bytes) from the beginning of the receive data by child nodes,

11
Child configuration:
1. “Add sender identification” has to be enabled.
2. Child short address ID will be added in the first two bytes of the transmitted data.
3. Note that the data logger server has to analysis the first two bytes to know where the data come from.
Fixed Route Setup (Child node only)
1. Each Child node can assign the next hopping node (Destination short address) if Fixed route “Yes” is selected.
2. If the Fixed route is set, the mesh hopping also can be set as a backup solution if Temporary detour “Yes” is selected.

12
Status
After the mesh network is finished, the connection status of each Parent or Child node can be checked by clicking [Status].
The MAC address, PAN ID, Radio channel number, short address, connection status, network name and RSSI (only Child node) will be
shown up.
Topology
All Child nodes in the mesh network can be checked by the [Display Topology] through Parent.
For example: Child nodes 0002 and 0003 are connected directly to Parent without hopping in the topology below.

13
Measurement Tool
For start field installation, please use the measurement tool to decide the communication channel firstly,
then verify communication signal level good enough.
Channel Noise Scan:
Click [Measurement tool] to switch device to measurement mode
1. Mode change
To select [Channel noise scan mode] and Click [Change mode]
2. Launch Tool
To click [Launch Tool] to open channel noise measurement tool page
Specify [Scan interval] and [Scan duration]
Specify the channel number for measurement
To click [Start] measurement
Save Result
Switch back to the normal mode before Z920K start operating

14
PER/RSSI measurement:
After deciding the communication channel, the PER and RSSI have to reconfirm for all of locations of
Child nodes to Parent. A reliable environment is required a lower PER (package error rate)
1. Set one device for communication test (Sender)
Click [Change mode] to switch device working on [Communication test mode (Sender)], then [Launch tool]
Open [Com port] and select the decided channel, then click [Save to module]
Keep power on to start sending test packages
2. Set the other device for communication test (Receiver)
Click [Change mode] to switch the other device working on [Communication test mode (Receiver)], then [Launch tool]
Open [Com port] and select the test channel, then click [Save to module]
Specify [Measurement duration], and click [Start] measurement
The measurement result can be stored by [Save]
Switch back to the normal mode before Z920K start operating
