DO NOT apply power to the unit until all connections have been made, all components have been
installed and all wiring has been properly terminated.
DO NOT terminate, change or uninstall any wiring without first disconnecting the unit’s power
adapter from the device.
This device is supplied with the appropriately rated power supply. The use of any other power supply
could cause damage and invalidate the manufacturer’s warranty.
DO NOT connect the power cord to the device if the power cord is damaged.
DO NOT cut the power cord.
DO NOT plug the power cord into an AC outlet until all cables and connections to the device have
been properly connected.
The device should be installed in an environment consistent with its operating temperature
specifications. Placement next to heating devices and ducts is to be avoided as doing so may cause
damage. The device should not be placed in areas of high humidity.
DO NOT cover any of the device’s ventilation openings.
DO NOT cover or obstruct the device’s fan or fan openings.
If the device has been in a cold environment allow it to warm to room temperature for at least 2 hours
before connecting to an AC outlet.

Introduction
The LCT-1631A is a cost effective, single input MPEG-2 HD Encoder/Modulator that converts Digital Video
Broadcasting (DVB) high definition video and audio signals to COFDM. The unit's front-mounted LCD display
allows for easy configuration and adjustments.
The compact and economical LCT-1631A Modulator is perfect for multi-video distribution solutions in the
commercial and institutional market (hotels, motels, sports bars, restaurants, hospitals, casinos, business and
university campuses, digital signage, etc.) as well as home entertainment systems.

Installation
System Installer must adhere to Article 820-40 of the NEC that provides guidelines for proper
grounding and specifies that the cable ground shall be connected to the grounding system of the
building, as close to the point of cable entry as possible.
Unpacking and Inspection
Each unit is shipped factory tested. Ensure all items are removed from the container prior to discarding any
packing material.
Thoroughly inspect the unit for shipping damage with particular attention to connectors and controls. If there is
any sign of damage to the unit or damaged or loose connectors contact your distributor immediately. Do not put
the equipment into service if there is any indication of defect or damage.
Hardware Installations and Connections
It is highly recommended that quality cables and connectors be used for all video and audio source connections.
1. The unit comes standard with HDMI, Component, and Composite video inputs. The modulator is
intelligently designed to detect the video input from the video source.
HDMI Connection: Connect the HDMI cable from the video source into the HDMI input.
If using a Component Video Cable, connect the Y (Green), Pb (Blue), and Pr (Red) video source
cable to the unit’s Component input port.
If using a Composite Video source, use RCA connectors to connect the video source (e.g., CATV,
DVD, VCR, Camera) to the unit’s CVBS port.
2. Composite Audio input: Connect A/V audio source (Left / Right Audio, the red / white AUDIO L and
AUDIO R) to connect the audio source to the 3.5mm Audio L/R phone jack.
3. Use a quality 75Ω coaxial cable with “F” connectors from the unit’s RF Output.
4. Connect the included power adapter to the unit’s POWER plug.
5. Connect the power adapter to an appropriately rated AC power outlet.
DEVICE Programming and Setup:
Connecting to the GUI Interface:
Factory Default IP: 192.168.1.9
1. Connect an Ethernet cable to the Utility Port of the LCT-1631A and to your PC/Laptop.
2. Modify your PC/Laptop’s IP address to 192.168.1.100.
3. Enter ‘192.168.1.9’ into your web browser.
4. Make all required parameter changes.
5. Save all changes.

Encoder Programming and Setup via GUI Interface:
After connecting the device to the Utility port located on the rear of the device and connecting to a PC / Laptop.
Step 1: Enter Device's IP address in web browser.
Overview page shown the encoder’s status and information as above.
Step 2: Enter Username/Password
Select Encoder Setup
After selecting the Encoder Setup Tab, the user will be prompted to enter the username and password for device.
GUI Login Password:
Default Username: admin
Default Password: Admin123
Note: To change the Password for the GUI go to the Administration Tab.

Step 3: Encoder Setup
Encoder Setup page allows the integrator to select and set:
Set Encoder Settings:
Select and set the specific parameters settings as required for your application.
◇ LCN – LCN range: 1 to 999. Factory default: 101.
◇ Channel Name – A Channel Name can consist up to 16 characters. Factory Default:
CHANNEL-1.
◇ Provider Name – A Provider Name can consist up to 16 characters. Factory Default: ZYCAST.
◇ Video Input – Video Input option: Auto Detect, HDMI, Component, or Composite. Factory
default: Auto Detect.
◇ HD Bitrate – HD Bitrate range: 12.0~24.0 Mbps. Factory default: 24.0 Mbps.
◇ SD Bitrate – SD Bitrate range: 4.0~9.0 Mbps. Factory default: 4.0 Mbps.
◇ Program Number – Program Number range: 1 to 65534. Factory default is 1.
◇ HDCP (Test Mode) – Select to Enable / Disable.
NOTE: It is the installers / property owner / integrator's responsibility to contract with the service
provider regarding content authorization and the use of HDCP.
◇ Closed Caption – Select to Enable / Disable.
◇ Audio Input – Audio Input option: Auto Detect or Analog. Factory default: Auto Detect.
◇ Audio Output – Audio Output option: MPEG1 Layer2, MPEG4 AAC, AC-3 (Optional). Factory
default: MPEG1 Layer2.

SAVE AND CONFIRM ALL CHANGES MADE ON THE ENCODER PAGE
Note: All the changes made will be reset while press the Reset button instead of Save and Confirm.
All Changes made will be show in the applet window (see below example)
Select ‘Submit’
Note: To reset all changes made or saved go to the Administration Page and select 'Reset to Default'.
*Leaving the encoder page without saving changes will cause the previous settings to be used.
- If the unit is outputting video to the system there will be a brief delay in the video while the parameters are
saved.

Step 4: RF Output Setup
Use the RF Setup page to set the RF output type, RF Output CH/frequency, and Constellation.
Modify and set the required parameters for your installation
◇ Original Network ID – ONID range: 1 to 65535. Factory default is 8228.
◇ Network ID – NID range: 1 to 65535. Factory default is 12801.
◇ TSID – TSID range: 1 to 65535. Factory default is 1.
◇ Network Name – A Network Name can consist up to 16 characters. Factory Default: ZyCast.
◇ RF Output – RF output option: Normal or Inverted. Factory default is Normal.
◇ Channel / Frequency – Factory default is 39(606.5000MHz)
◇ Constellation – The Constellation is default 64 QAM.
◇ FEC – The FEC is default 7/8.
◇ Guard Interval – The Guard Interval is default 1/32.
◇ OFDM Mode – OFDM Mode option: 2k or 8k. Factory default is 8k.
◇ CELL ID – The CELL ID is default 0.
Save and Confirm all changes settings on RF Output Setup page.
Application Note: When installing more than 1 device into a system, each device must have a unique RF TSID.
We highly recommend you save your encoder configuration files. See Administration tab for how to backup
device settings.

Step 5: Network Configuration
Management IP Setup:
Use the Network Setup to configure the device’s Management Port’s IP address (GUI address) of the device,
Subnet Mask, Gateway, Enable/Disable DHCP, and set Host Name.
Factory Default GUI IP is 192.168.1.9.
Save and Confirm: Once all parameters are set remember to Save and Confirm all changes.
Note: It is highly recommended that the GUI / Remote Setup IP address is recorded locally for access to the GUI
in the field.

Step 6: Administration
Reboot:
Use the Reboot command button to reboot the device.
Note: Any unsaved changes will be lost.
Reset to Default:
Use the Reset to Default button to reset all parameters to original factory settings.
Saving your configuration files
We highly recommend you save your configuration files. Simply Click the “Backup” button
and the config files will be saved to your computer.
Backup:
1. Select Administration tab.
2. Select backup from the menu.
3. Locate and name file for future use.
Restore/Upload saved file configurations:
1. Select Administration tab.
2. Select “Browse…” menu.
3. Locate the required file to be imported.
4. Select “UPLOAD” to import the selected file into the device.
5. Remember to save and backup any and all changes.

Firmware Upgrade
Select BROWSE… to select a new firmware image file and UPLOAD to update the Firmware if needed.
Change Password:
Use the Change Password section to change or modify the device’s password as desired.
Save and Confirm new password.

Front Panel Control
The LCT-1631A can be programmed using the front panel LCD to configure the unit as desired.
Once the unit has powered up it will go through an internal booting process the unit is ready for programming or
operation. and display Bit rate information in the LCD display when ready.
Press OK
LCD Password – Press the OK button to enter the 4-digit password. Use the Scroll Up/Down button to search and
select individual numbers for the password. Press the OK button for each number to enter the password.
Password: Default password is 0000.

Modulator Configuration via Front Panel LCD
Once the encoder is powered up it will go through its initial booting process. Once the unit has completed its
initial “Booting” up process the LCD will display IN-1..., Bit Rate information, CHANNEL-1...., and other
information in the LCD Display Window. When visible the unit is ready for programming or operation.
Main Menu– To access the Main Menu first enter the password by pressing the OK button. Use the Scroll
Up/Down buttons to enter the password. The password is - 0000.Once the password is entered press the OK
button again and the LCD Screen will display the Main Menu.
RF Setup Menu
◈ Channel – Use the Scroll Up/Down button to change the output channel. Use the Scroll
Up/Down buttons to select the desired Output Channel. Once the desired output channel is
selected press the OK button to set the channel.
The LCD Display will show both the channel number and the frequency number of the output
channel example: 39(606.5000MHz)
◈ ONID – Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select ONID. Press the OK button to enter the ONID
menu. Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select the desired ONID ranging from 1 to 65535 then
press the OK button to set. Factory default is 08228.
◈ NID – Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select NID. Press the OK button to enter the NID menu.
Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select the desired NID ranging from 1 to 65535 then press the
OK button to set. Factory default is 12801.
◈ TSID – Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select TSID. Press the OK button to enter the TSID
menu. Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select the desired TSID ranging from 1 to 65535 then
press the OK button to set. Factory default is 00001. Note: If installing multiple units in the same
system – ensure each device must have a unique TSID.
◈ Network Name – Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select Network Name. Press the OK button
to enter the Network Name menu. Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select the first character for
the desired Network Name then press the OK button to set. Repeat the process for each character
in the desired Network Name. A Network Name can consist up to 16 characters.
◈ RF – Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select RF. Press the OK button to enter the RF menu. Use
the Scroll Up/Down button to select the desired RF, Normal or Inverted, then press OK button to
set. Factory default is Normal.
◈ Constellation – The Constellation is default 64 QAM.
◈ FEC – The FEC is default 7/8.
◈ GI – The GI, Guard Interval, is default 1/32.
◈ OFDM Mode – Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select the OFDM menu. Press the OK button
to enter the OFDM menu. Use the Scroll Up/Down to select the OFDM 2k or 8k. Press OK to set.
Factory default is 8k.
◈ CELL ID – The CELL ID is default 00000.
◈ EXIT – Select EXIT to escape the RF Setup Menu.

Encoder Setup Menu
◈ LCN-Use the Scroll Up/Down button to set LCN. Press the OK button to enter The LCN menu.
Use the Scroll Up/Down to set the LCN, ranging from 1 to 999. Press OK to set. Factory default:
101.
◈ Channel Name – Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select Channel Name. Press the OK button
to enter the Channel Name menu. Use the Scroll Up/Down menu to select the first character of
the desired Channel Name then press the OK button to set. Repeat the process until the Channel
Name is completed. Factory Default: CHANNEL-1. A Channel Name can consist up to 16
characters.
◈ Provider Name – Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select Provider Name. Press the OK button
to enter the Provider Name menu. Use the Scroll Up/Down menu to select the first character of
the desired Provider Name then press the OK button to set. Repeat the process until the Provider
Name is completed. A Provider Name can consist up to 16 characters.
◈ Video Input – Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select Video Input. Press the OK button to enter
the Video Input menu. Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select the Video Input option: Auto
Detect, HDMI, Component, or Composite. Press the OK button to set. Factory default: Auto
Detect.
◈ HD Bitrate – Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select HD Bitrate. Press the OK button to enter
the HD Bitrate setup menu. Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select the desire HD Bitrate
ranging from 12.0~24.0 Mbps. Press the OK button to set. Factory default: 24.0 Mbps.
◈ SD Bitrate – Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select SD Bitrate. Press the OK button to enter
the SD Bitrate Input menu. Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select the desire SD Bitrate ranging
from 1.0~9.0 Mbps. Press the OK button to set. Factory default: 4.0 Mbps.
◈ Program Number – Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select Program Number. Press the OK
button to enter the Program Number menu. Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select the desired
Program Number ranging from 1 to 65534 then press the OK button to set. Factory default is
00001.
◈ HDCP (Test Mode) – Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select the HDCP menu. Press the OK
button to enter the HDCP menu. Select Enable / Disable and press OK to set.
NOTE: It is the installers / property owner / integrator's responsibility to contract with the service
provider regarding content authorization and the use of HDCP.
◈ Closed Caption – Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select the Closed Caption menu. Press the
OK button to enter the Closed Caption menu. Select Enable / Disable and press OK to set.
◈ Audio Input – Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select Audio Input. Press the OK button to
enter the Audio Input menu. Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select the Audio Input option:
Auto Detect or Analog. Press the OK button to set. Factory default: Auto Detect.
◈ Audio Output – Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select Audio Output. Press the OK button to
enter the Audio Output menu. Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select the Audio Output option:
MPEG1 Layer2, MPEG4 AAC, AC-3. Factory default: MPEG1 Layer2. Press the OK button to
set.
◈ EXIT – Select EXIT to escape the Encoder Setup Menu.

Network Setup
Default Management IP: 192.168.1.9
◈ Host Name – Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select Host Name. Press the OK button to enter
the Host Name menu. Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select the first character for the desired
Host Name then press the OK button to set. Repeat the process for each character in the desired
Network Name. A Host Name can consist up to 15 characters. Press OK to Reboot.
◈ IP Setup – Use the Scroll Up/Down button to select IP Setup. Press the OK button to enter the IP
Setup menu. Use the Scroll Up/Down button to Enable/Disable DHCP. Press the OK button to
set. When selecting Enable and press OK, OK to Reboot will show and press OK to reboot for
DHCP. When selecting Disable, IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway need to be set as
follows.
Note: If DHCP is enabled and the LCT-1631A is connected to a DHCP server/network, the LCT-
1631A will receive an IP address from the DHCP server. If DHCP is enabled, you will not be
able to set an IP address. Select DHCP disabled if Static IP Address required.
◈ IP Address – Use the Scroll Up/Down enter the desired IP Address then press the OK button to
set. Repeat the process until the IP Address is completed. Press the OK button to set.
◈ Subnet Mask – Use the Scroll Up/Down button to enter the Subnet Mask. Use the Scroll
Up/Down menu to select the first number of the desired Subnet Mask then press the OK button to
set. Repeat the process until the Subnet Mask is completed. Press the OK button to set.
◈ Default Gateway – Press the OK button to enter the Default Gateway. Use the Scroll Up/Down
menu to select the first number of the desired Gateway Address then press the OK button to set.
Repeat the process until the Gateway Address is completed. Press the OK button to Reboot.
◈ EXIT – Select EXIT to escape the Network Setup Menu.
Change Password
◈ Change Password – Press the OK button to enter the Change Password menu. Use the Scroll
Up/Down menu to select and modify the 4-digit Password then press the OK button to set.
Default Password: 0000.
Reset to Default
◈ Reset to Default – Press the OK button reset all settings to factory default settings. Select
Country, Australia or New Zealand, then press OK button to reboot.
Caution- Once you enter this function there is no way to exit.
All parameters will be reset to factory defaults.
Note: GUI Administration functions are not available via the LCD menu.
Use the GUI to utilize all the Admin functions available.
