1. Introduction
10 BARUnderwaterHousingsaresmall,lightand ruggedenoughtobeusedoneverydive.Useofaclear
polycarbonateallowsforvisualinspectionofcameraconditionandtheO-ringseal.10 BARHousingsare
designedfortheever-increasing varietyofmodelsofdigitalstillandvideocameras.Advancedcomputer
aideddesignandCNCmanufacturingtechnologiesensureprecisedimensions.Eachhousing bodyisfirst
injectionmolded,andthenmachinedtoconfiguretoindividualcameramodel.Arangeoflensportsand
controlsarefitted,totailorthehousingtoyourcameramodel.

4.SetupInstructions
4.1 Special noteonresponsibilityforwatertightintegrity
Eachhousing isindividuallyinspected and hydrostaticallytested inthe factory.The design of the
mainpiston O-ringsealisamong the most reliableinthe industryand thewatertightintegrityis
excellent. ThisspecialO-ring design providesaperfectsealevenif thereisanymovement
between the bodyand liddue tochange of ambient pressure. Howeverpleasenotethat
responsibilityforensuring the integrityof the watertight seallies entirelywiththeuser. 10BAR
acceptsno liabilityfordamage to,orloss ofanyequipmentused with,orplaced inside the housing.
Usersarehighlyrecommended tocarryoutin-watertest of thehousingswithout installing ofthe
camerafortheirfirst dive, afterchange of newportsoralternation of anynewconfiguration.The
testcan be carried outbylowering the housing withballasttothe working depthordivedowntothe
safediving range.
TheO-ringsealisthemainbarrierbetweenthe
wateroutsideand theairspace withinthecamera.
Itisaneffectivebarrieronlyifthesealisproperly
maintained. TheO-ringsealshouldbeinspected
beforeeverydive. Thefollowinginformationis
providedforyourguidance inusingand
maintainingtheO-ringseal.
4.2 MaintainingtheO-ringSeal
If the mainbodytolidO-ringsarenot installed,
installthe O-ringsbeforediving.Theircareand
maintenancearecriticaltothe watertightintegrity
of the housing. If the O-ringsarecontaminated, or
not alreadyinstalled;inspect, greaseand install
the O-ringsaccording tothe following guidelines.
4.3 Inspection, cleaningandre-instillationoftheO-rings
Tools
Asoft cotton bud orspongeapplicator, makesurethesearefree of all contaminationsuchasloose
fibers,and thetubeof silicone greasesuppliedwiththe housing. Noteothertypesof silicone grease
specificallyforusewithunderwatercameraequipment can usuallyalsobeused. Itisadvised to
carryout the following procedureon afirmclean levelsurface, e.g. atatable,toprevent skidding
especiallywhen divingfrom aboat.

WhentomaintaintheO-ringseal
Removethe O-ringperiodicallyforinspection.It isnotnecessarytoremove,cleanand re-installthe
O-ring aftereverydiveprovided theO-ringsarenot becomecontaminated. Asaruleofthumbsset
up the cameraand housing beforeaday sdiving. If thehousingisrequired tobe opened between
divesforchanging memorycardorre-chargingbatteries, makesurethe outside ofthe housing is
thoroughlytoweleddrybeforeopening up. Afterremoving thelidandservicing the camera,replace
the lidstraight away, ratherthanleaving itlyingaround. Beforereplacing thelid, check the o-rings
and makesurethatnocontaminationsuchasdust, hair, salt, sandetc.hasfallen ontotheO-ring or
O-ring recess, asaprecaution werecommend toinspectthe O-ring everytimethe lidisopened
and tocarryout the maintenanceonlyif necessary.
Procedure
lPlacethelidon firmnon-sliplevelsurface.
lTheO-ringcanbeextractedusinganO-ringextractortool(make surethetoolhasnosharpedges).
Alternativelyusetheflatsofthe thumbstogentlystretchtheO-ringontwofacesthusmaking asmall
loopprotrudingafewmm. Theloopcanthenbegraspedbetweenfingerandthumb, topulltheO-ring
overthelip.
lCleantheO-ringrecess(thesquaregroove
wheretheO-ringsits)withacottonbud.
lInspecttheO-ringall thewayrounditssurface
fordamagesuchascuts tears orcontamination.
Thisshouldbedonevisuallyand alsobyfeeling
thesurface texturebetweenfingerandthumb.
IFTHEO-RING ISDAMAGEDORSUSPECTEDOFBEING DAMAGED, DISCARD IT
IMMEDIATELY.
A spareO-ring issupplied withyourhousing,orareplacementO-ring can be orderedfrom10 BAR.
If the O-ring iscontaminatedorsuspectedofbeingcontaminated, cleanit withacotton cloththatis
free ofallchemicalsorcontamination. Aftercleaning inspect the O-ringagain.
Oncethe O-ringhasbeen inspected and verified fitforuse,applyasmallamountofsilicone grease
tothe O-ring.The siliconegreasemust be evenlydistributed round theO-ring.
ReplacetheO-ring intothegroove;runafingerround theO-ring, tomakesureitissnuglyseated in
the groove.

4.4 KeyHoleLock
The Key-holeLock issimpleandeasy touseand addingsecurity.
Toopenthe housing, turnthe leversof thelockperpendiculartothe wallof the housing until the
lock isreleasedon bothsides.

Pullout the lidbyholding onthe gripnearthelock

4.5 Mountingthecamerainthehousing:
Removethe lenscap and wriststrap.
Attachthe plasticslidetraytothecamera stripod mounting fixturewithascrewdriverorthe end of
the universaltoolsupplied.Takecarenottoexcessivelytighten the
screw. Slidethe cameraintothebodyalong the guide rail. Makesurethe camerabodyreachthe
limitand testthefunction of theon/of buttononthe bodyofthehousing.Slide thehot shoepluginto
the hot shoe.
Note: If you find that the buttonsdo notalign properlywiththe controls, pleasecheck
againthatthe cameraisproperlyseated tothelimit of theguide rail.
Slide thecameraintothe bodyalongthe rubberpacking.Makesurethe camerabodyreachthe
limit and testthe function ofthe On/Off button on thsbodyof thehousing.
Align the bulkhead cableasshownand check the cableisnotjammed underanybutton oroverthe
o-ring. Slide the hotshoe plug intothe hot shoe

Toclosethe housing,placethe lidoverthe housing and align the key-holeand press downthe
lever.
Turnthe levertowardsthe wallof the housing and check the keyisatlock position
Replacethelidand makesurethe leverisperpendiculartotheside wallofthehousing.Lockthe lid
bypress downthe leverand turnuntilthe leverisparalleltothe side wallof the housing.
Afterreplacingand locking thelid, makeafinalvisualinspection of the mainO-ring for
contamination.
Note:IftheO-ring isingood contact,athinblack line, about0.5to1mm inwidth shouldbevisible,
wheretheO-ring isincontactwiththelid.Follow thislineall thewayround theedgeoftheseal,asa
finalcheck thatthesealisgood.
Afterreplacingthe lid,makeafinalvisualinspectionof themainO-ringforcontamination

4.6Inspection,cleaningand re-instillationoftheO-ring:

Asoftcottonbudorspongeapplicator,makesurethesearefree ofall chemicalsorcontaminationsuchasloosefibers,and
thetubeofsiliconegreasesuppliedwiththehousing arerequired.Noteothertypesofsiliconegreasespecificallyforuse
withunderwatercameraequipmentcanusuallyalsobeused.Itisadvisedtocarryoutthefollowingprocedureonafirm
cleanlevelsurface, (e.g. atatable), topreventskiddingespeciallyusefultohavewhendivingfromaboat.
WhentomaintaintheO-ringseal:
RemovetheO-ring periodicallyforinspection.Itisnotnecessarytoremove,cleanand re-install theO-ring aftereverydive
providedtheO-ringdidnotbecomecontaminated.Asaruleofthumbsetupthecameraand housingbeforeaday sdiving.
If thehousingisrequiredtobeopenedbetweendivesforchangingmemorycardorre-chargingbatteries,makesurethe
outsideofthehousingisthoroughlytoweleddrybeforeopeningup.Afterremovingthelidandservicingthecamera,
replace thelidstraightaway,ratherthanleavingit lyingaround.Beforereplacingthelid,makesurethatnocontamination
suchasdust,hair,salt,sand etc.hasfallenontotheO-ringorO-ring recess,asaprecautionwerecommendtoinspectthe
O-ring everytimethelidisopenedandtocarryoutthemaintenance ifnecessary.
5. Use&CareofHousing:
5.1 PreDiveFunction Check.
Justbeforeenteringthewater,makeahabitofreviewingthepropersteps toclosethehousingandconnect
the
bulkhead. MakeavisualcheckoftheO-ringseal. Itisalsousefultoswitchonthecamera, andcheckthat
the
controlse.g.on/off, zoom, shutterfunctionsoperatenormally.
lCheckhousing isclosed
lCheckO-ringisinthegroovebetweenhousingandAcrylic
lCheckbatteryandmemorycardstatus ontheLCDdisplay
lCheckcontrolknobandzoomfunction
lChecktheBulkheadisproperlyconnectedorblanked.
Alwaysavoidsubmergingthehousinginhotwaterforaprolongedtimeoracleansingtankwhere the
watermay beheatedupbythesun.

5.2 GeneralOperation.
Thecontrolleversand pushbuttonsconsist ofinternaldoubleO-ring seals onastainless steel
shaft.Thisarrangement is veryreliable,howeverasaprecaution,whenoperating thecontrols,avoid
excessivelyrapid movements,asthismaydistort theO-ring.Alsopleaseallowforthefact that thecamera
takesafew secondstopoweron.Ifthecameradosenot appeartorespond toacontrolaction,makesure
that noothercontrolsarepressing onthecamera,i.e.locking out furtheractions.Wearthewrist strap;it
is easytoinadvertentlylet goofthehousing,especiallyifyouaredistracted.
5.3Cleaning&Storage.
Thebody&lidofthehousingaremadeofpolycarbonate.Polycarbonatewasselectedforitsoutstandingstrengthstiffness,
hardness andtoughness.Aswell asitscrystalcleartransparencyandhighgloss surface. Ithasgood resistance toweathering,
althoughlong-termexposuretosunlightshouldbeavoided.Normaloperatingtemperaturerangeis3°Cto36°C(Storage
temperature:-10°Cto50°C)
Itisgoodpractice torinseoff yourhousingwithfreshwateraftereverydive.Avoidexposuretofinesand.Afteraseriesof
10 ormoredives,e.g.afteradiveholiday,itisrecommendedtoimmersethehousing for2-3hoursinwarmwaterto
dissolveanysalt depositsthatmayhavebuilt up.Nochemicalcleanersshouldbeused.Milddetergentse.g.shampooand
soapbasedcleanersarepermitted.
Important !!!
Somehouseholdchemicalsmay harmPolycarbonate;thehousingshouldneverbeexposedtothe
followingclassesofchemicals:benzene,toluene,xylene,chlorinatedhydrocarbons,methanol,any
othersolvents, strongacidsand bases.
Forlongtermstoragepleaseremovethemaino-ringfrombody.
5.4Transportation.
Whentransportingbyair,pleaseensurethehousingisnotsealed,toallowtheairpressuretoequalize.EitherremovetheO
-ring (recommended),oropenthepressurereleaseport(aspacerisprovidedtokeepthepressureplugintheopenposition,
pleasemakesurethereisnobendingoftheplugwhileopen).
Pleaseprotectthehousingduringtransportation.Itisrecommendedtoremovethesynccord,andwrapthehousinginfoam
orbubblewrap.
5.5Accidents.
Theimpactresistanceofthehousingisexcellent.Howeverafteranaccidentthealignmentofthehousingmayhavebeen
damaged.Thereforeintheeventofyourhousingsufferinganimpactforce,e.g.beingdropped,it isessentialyoudonotuse
thehousingfordiving.Pleasereturnthehousingimmediatelyforservice.Pleaseputanoteinsidetoindicatethenatureof
theaccident, sothatwecanassess theseverity.
6.Service
Toensurethecontinuedperformanceofyourhousing,it shouldbeservicedeveryyear,orafterevery200 dives.Please
notethetermsforservicingthehousingpostedatourwebsite.Afull servicewill include:
Inspectionofallcomponentsforwearsordamage(reportifrepairnecessary)
Cleaningofallsealingsurfaces, andreplacementofall O-ringseals.
Hydrostaticpressure testto10 Bar.
Note:thereplacementofdamagedcomponents(exceptreplacementO-rings)may require additionalcost.

7. Warranty
The warrantyisvalidwithintwoyearsfromthe dateoffirstpurchase.The warrantyappliesonlytothe housing itself.
10 BARdoes notacceptanyliabilityeitherimplicitorotherwise foranyequipmenthoused
inside, orusedtogetherwiththehousing. Inthe eventofthe housing flooding withinthe period of
warranty,10 BARwill repairorreplacethe housing.Pleasenotethatdisassemblyofthe housing willinvalidatewarranty.
