The following release notes for the 3Com

TokenLink
Velocity

XL PCI network interface card (3C359B NIC)
provide information on these topics:

ACPI Remote Wake-Up Support
The 3Com TokenLink Velocity XL PCI Network Interface
Card User Guide states that the 3C359B NIC Remote
Wake-Up support conforms to the Advanced Configuration
and Power Interface (ACPI) specification.
While the 3C359B NIC supports Remote Wake-Up in PCs
equipped with a Remote Wake-Up connector on the PC
motherboard, the NIC does not currently support
ACPI-enabled Remote Wake-Up.
To use Remote Wake-Up, use the 3-wire cable (supplied
with the NIC) to connect the NIC to the motherboard as
described in Chapter 2, “Installing the 3C359B NIC,” in the
user guide.
Windows 95 Version 950 (Retail) Driver Installation
Use the following instructions to install the 3C359B NIC in
a PC running Microsoft Windows 95 release version 950
(also known as version 950a, OSR1, or the Windows 95
“retail” version).

Windows 95 version 950 requires that the NDIS 3 driver be
loaded for the 3C359B NIC. The instructions in this section
replace those shown in the 3Com TokenLink Velocity XL PCI
Network Interface Card User Guide for installing the NDIS 3
driver from the TokenDisk diskette or the TokenLink
Velocity XL CD.
Installing the NDIS 3 Driver
To install the NDIS 3 driver for the 3C359B NIC, you must
specify the complete path to the driver file on the TokenDisk
diskette or TokenLink Velocity XL CD.
First, install the NIC and turn on the PC as described in the
user guide. After selecting Driver from disk provided by
hardware manufacturer in the New Hardware Found
window, continue by following these steps:
1 If you are using the 3.5-inch diskettes, insert
TokenDisk diskette 2 in the drive. If you are using the
TokenLink Velocity XL CD, insert it in the CD-ROM
drive.
2 At the prompt, enter the appropriate path for the
drive containing your TokenDisk diskette or
TokenLink Velocity XL CD and the NDIS 3 driver.
■ If you are using the 3.5-inch TokenDisk diskettes, enter:
a:\nt351
■ If you are using the TokenLink Velocity XL CD, substitute
the appropriate drive (drive D, for example) and the
DISK_2 designation in the path as follows:
d:\disk_2\nt351
3 Click OK .
Continue with the driver installation instructions as
presented in the user guide.

If Your PC Mouse Halts 3
Uninstalling the Wrong Driver
If you do not enter the full path for the NDIS 3 driver as
described in the preceding section, it is possible that the
wrong driver (NDIS 4 or NDIS 5) may be loaded. In this
case, you must uninstall the incorrect driver before
installing the NDIS 3 driver. Follow these steps:
1 Delete the .INF file from the WINDOWS\INF directory.

If the NDIS 4 driver is installed, delete NET3COMT.INF
from the WINDOWS\INF directory.
■
If the NDIS 5 driver is installed, delete W983C359.INF
from the WINDOWS\INF directory.
2 Delete the driver from the Device Manager.
3 Reboot and install the correct driver using the
instructions in “Installing the NDIS 3 Driver.”
If Your PC Mouse Halts
Your PC mouse (pointing device) may freeze periodically if
the 3C359B NIC is not connected to a hub or a switch. To
correct this problem, connect the NIC to a hub or a switch.
