TheAshVacuumisintendedforvacuumingcoldorwarmashesonly.Usingthevacuum
asashopvacuumorforgeneralhouseholdusecouldincreasetheriskoffireby
depositingcombustiblematerialintothecanisterpriortovacuumingashes.

Usecautionwhenvacuumingmaterialsthatappeartohavecooled,butmayactually
stillbehotinside.
Airflowcreatedduringvacuumingmaycausehotashtoigniteagain.
Asyouvacuum,constantlycheckthenozzle,hose,canister,filterandmotorfor
excessivetemperatures.Ifyounoticeanincreaseintemperature,turnoffthevacuum

immediately.Unplugthevacuumandremovethevacuumedmaterialfromthecanister
andfilterbag.Allowthevacuumandthematerialtobevacuumedtocoolbefore
continuingtovacuum.
EXTENSION CORDS
Doubleinsulatedequipmentcanuseeitheratwoorthreewireextensioncord.Asthe
distancefromthepowersupplyoutletincreases,youmustuseaheaviergaugeextension
cord.Usingextensioncordswithinadequatelysizedwirecausesaseriousdropinvoltage,
resultinginlossofpowerandpossibletooldamage.Refertothetableshownbelowto
determinetherequiredminimumwiresize.
GuidelinesforUsingExtensionCords
•Ifyouareusinganextensioncordoutdoors,besureitismarkedwiththesuffix“W‐A”
(“W”inCanada)toindicatethatitisacceptableforoutdooruse.
•Besureyourextensioncordisproperlywiredandingoodelectricalcondition.Always
replaceadamagedextensioncordorhaveitrepairedbyaqualifiedpersonbeforeusingit.
•Protectyourextensioncordsfromsharpobjects,excessiveheat,anddamporwet
areas.

INSTALLING THE VELCRO STRAP
1. Locatethevelcrostraparoundtheupperedgeofashcanisterlikephotobelow.
INSTALLING THE PRE-FILTER, MOTOR AND HOSE
The pre-filter is made of a specially designed glass fabric cloth that effectively filters
approximately 95% of coarse-dust particles. Installing the pre-filter correctly will
reduce the cleaning of thecartridge filter and prolong the cartridge filter lifetime.
1. Lowerthepre‐filterbagintothemetalcanisterandrubbergasketatthetop.Seephoto
below.

2.Lowerthepre‐filteruntiltherubbergasketrestsevenlyonthelipofthemetalcanister.
3.Ifnecessary,adjusttherubbergasketsoitcompletelycoversthecanisterlipwithoutany
gaps.
4.Insertthemotorhousingintothecanistersoitrestsontopoftherubbergasketwiththe
on/offswitchandFULLindicatorabovethecanistervacuumport.
IMPORTANT
!
Besureeachclampendisalignedoveraclamplandingonthemotor
housingasshownbelow.
6.Securethemotorhousinginplacebylockingdowntheclamps.
7.Aligntheraisedbossonthelargehoseendwiththegapatthetopofthecanister
vacuumport.Pushthehoseendinwardandrotateclockwisetolockinplace.Seephoto
below.
8.Insertthemetalintakenozzleintotheotherendofthehose.Turningthenozzle
clockwisewhilepushingitintothehoseendwillhelptosecurelyseatthemetalnozzle.

stoves,andBBQ’s,itmayalsobeusedfordryvacuumingasashop/garagevacuum,a
householdvacuum,orasablower.IntheOperationsectionarespecialinstructionsfor
variousashvacuumuses.

ON/OFF SWITCH
Afterpluggingthepowercordintoanoutlet,theunitisturnedonbypushingtheswitch
fromupposition(OFF)tolowposition(ON).
NOTE
:
Staticshocksarecommonindryareasorwhentherelativehumidityoftheairis
low.VacuumingfinedebriswithyourAshVacuumcancausestaticchargeonthehoseor
onthevacuum.Thebestremedytoreducethefrequencyofstaticshocksinyourhome
whenusingthisvacuumistoaddmoisturetotheairwithahumidifier.
ASH VACUUM USE
1.Beforeconnectingthepowercordtopowersource,checkthatthevacuumisproperly
assembledwiththemetalnozzleinstalled.
CAUTION: NEVERusetheashvacuumwithoutthemetalnozzleinplace.
2.EnsuretheOn/Offswitchisintheup(OFF)position.
3.PlacetheAshVacuumnearthefireplaceorstoveyouarecleaningandmakesuretheash
insideiscool.
4.Insertthepowercordplugintoanoutletnearyourworkareaandpushtheswitchtothe
low(ON)position.

5.Usingthemetalnozzleonly,beginvacuumingtheash.
6.Asyouvacuum,constantlycheckthenozzle,hose,canister,filtersandmotorfor
excessivetemperatures.Ifyounoticeanincreaseintemperature,turnoffthevacuum
immediately.Unplugthevacuumandremovethevacuumedmaterialfromthecanisterand
filterbag.Allowthevacuumandthematerialtobevacuumtocoolbeforecontinuingto
vacuum.
IMPORTANT! TheFULLindicatorareawillgraduallybecomeREDasthecanisterfillswith
ash.ItCANNOTconfirmthatthevacuumcanisterisfull.Checkitregularlytoseeifthe
vacuumcanisterisfull.Whensuctionperformancedeteriorates,itneedstocleanthe
pre‐filterandcartridgefilter(see“MAINTENANCE”).
7.Continuetorunthevacuumforabout30secondsaftercleaningiscompletetobesure
anymaterialremaininginthehoseissafelydepositedintothecanister.Pressthevacuum
switchtotheOFFposition,thenunplugfromtheoutlet.
8.Allowthevacuumtocool,thenremoveashfromthecanisterandcleanthefiltersas
explainedinthemanual’s“MAINTENANCE”instructionsbeforestoringthevacuum.
UsageHints
•Donotshoveorburythenozzleintheash;doingsowillcausenozzle&hosetomore
easilyclogwithdebris.
•Restthenozzletiponthefirebrickatroughlya45°angletominimizelargerpiecesfrom
cloggingthenozzle&hose.
•Movethenozzleonthefirebrickinacircularorback&forthmotion.Thiswillhelpscrap
offashstucktothefirebrickandallowashtoberemovedquicklythroughthenozzle&hose
withoutclogging.

•Movelargerchucksofdebristothesidetobreakapartbetweenthemetalnozzleand
firebrickasnecessary.
DRY SHOP VACUUM USE
CAUTION:
Emptyallashfromthecanisterandcleanashfromfiltersbeforeusingto
vacuumupothertypesofmaterial.Notdoingsocouldincreasetheriskoffireby
depositingcombustiblematerialintothecanister.
1.Beforeconnectingthepowercordtopowersource,checkthatthecanister&filters

nozzlealone.Thenarrowtipofthecrevicetoolalsoincreasessuction,whichaidsin
vacuumingmaterialindeepercracks&tightareas.
‐Attachthecrevicetoolthenarrowendofanextensiontubetoaccesshardtoreach
areas.
‐Rotatethetoolstipasthearrowindicatestopositionthebrushendforuse.
MAINTENANCE

CLEANING THE CANISTER AND FILTERS
1.Unplugthevacuumfromthepoweroutlet.
2.Removethehosefromthevacuumportbyrotatingthehosecoupling
counter‐clockwise.
3.Unclampthemotorhousingandremoveitfromtopofthecanister.
Pre‐filterCleaning
1.Tominimizeairbornedust,taptheinsideofthepre‐filterbagwithyourfingertipsto
knockcollecteddustintothecanister.
2.Removethepre‐filterbagfromthecanisterandremoveremainingdustbytapping
thefilter’sinteriororlightlybrushingofftheoutsideofthebag.
NOTE: Ifnecessary,thepre‐filtermaybehandwashedwithcoolwater&milddetergent,
thengentlyhandwringtoremoveexcesswaterandsetasidetoairdry.Besurethe
pre‐filterisdrybeforeuse.

CanisterCleaning
1.Dumpthecoldashfromthecanisterintoanappropriatedisposablecontainersuchas
aplasticorpapertrashbag.
2.Toremoveashclingingtothecanisterinterior,lightwipeoffthedustwithpaper
towelsorclothrag.Ifnecessary,aslightlymoisttowelorragmaybeusedtowipeoff
thecanisterinterior&exterior.
3.Donotwashthecanisterwithwater,cleaningagent,orotherliquid.
Inspectthefilterfortearsorholes;ifanyarefound,replacethefilterbeforereassembly
oftheAshVacuum.
IMPORTANT! Donotusethevacuumwithadamagedfilterorwithoutaproperly
installedfilter;doingsowillresultindustblowingoutthevents&exhaustport.
Followingcanister&filterscleaning,andthenfiltersinspectionandfiltersreplacement,if
necessary,reassembletheAshVacuumbeforestorage.
