1. Introduction
1.1 Product description
The Gewa Andromeda Socket is a so called relay unit. By connecting the relay unit between, for
example, a lamp and a wall socket, you can turn the lamp on and off with a transmitter or a control
switch.
The Andromeda Socket can function in two different ways:
•The power switches between on and off. For example, switching on and off a lamp. (Bistable
function).
•The power is on as long as the button on the transmitter is pressed. For example, to drive an
electric mixer. (Monostable function.)
The Andromeda Socket is a part of the “GewaLink-system” and therefore can be used together with
all of these products, including Gewa IR transmitter and Z-Wave transmitter.
The Andromeda Socket comes factory set with GewaLink channel 16 and bistable function.
WARNING: For safety reasons, never connect devices that requires continuous
powersupply, e.g., life support devices.
WARNING: For safety reasons, never connect devices in series!
1.2 Intended puporse
Andromeda socket provides the ability to remotely control electronic equipment at home. It is
intended to support people with motor-, cognitive or visual impairments to control various home
appliances, for example turn on and off lamps with a remote control or a connected control switch.
The device is intended for indoor use and can easily be moved between different electrical outlets.

2. Product Overview
Andromeda Socket consists of the following parts:
419881 Andromeda Socket UK
1. 230V socket. For connection of
the device to be controlled.
4. On/Off button. For programming and to
manually turn On/Off the power.
2. Detector eye. Receives IR signal.
5. 3.5 mm jack. For connecting an external
control switch.
3. Indication light.
3. Connection
1. Make sure that the device to be connected, that has its own power switch is set to “on”. This is
easiest done by connecting to a wall socket and ensure that the device is on (for example a lamp
should be lit).
2. Connect the Andromeda Socket to a wall socket.
3. Connect the device to be controlled to the socket on the relay unit (1).
4. Make sure that the device gets power by pressing the On/Off button (4).
5. If IR is used, keep in mind that the range will be reduced if the detector eye (2) is covered or
hidden in some way, for example by curtains or furniture.
6. Program the relay unit by following the instructions in the next chapter.
The Andromeda Socket comes factory set with GewaLink channel 16 and bistable function. The
relay unit does not need to be programmed if it is the function and channel to be used on the IR
transmitter.

•Radio control (Z-Wave)
•Control switch
WARNING: The relay is activated during the programming. This may cause an
inadvertent activation of some equipment.
4.1 Control with IR transmitter
4.1.1 On/Off (bistable function)
Example: To turn on and off a lamp every other time the button on the IR-transmitter is
pressed.
1. Press the On/Off button (4) and, at the same time, press
the selected button on the IR transmitter until the
indication light on the relay unit flashes and the relay
have clicked 3 times.
2. Check the function by pressing the selected button on
the IR transmitter.
4.1.2 Keep turned on (monostable function)
Example: To practice cause and effect with a connected electric mixer. The mixer runs as
long as the button on the transmitter is pressed.
1. Press the On/Off button (4) and, at the same time, press
the selected button on the IR transmitter until the
indication light on the relay unit flashes and the relay

4.2 Control with Radio transmitter
4.2.1 Radio transmitter (Z-Wave)
Example: To turn a lamp on and off every other time you press the button on the Z-wave
transmitter.
When controlling with radio you can only have the On/Off function (bistable function).
Andromeda Socket can be included and operated in any Z-Wave network with other
Z-Wave certified devices from other manufacturers and/or other applications. All non-battery
operated nodes within the network will act as repeaters regardless of vendor to increase reliability of
the network.
4.2.2 Z-Wave network functions
Add (Include):
1. Put the system controller (Z-Wave transmitter) into inclusion mode (Include) by following the
instructions provided by the controller manufacturer.
2. Press the On/Off button on Andromeda Socket three times within 1.5 seconds.
Remove (Exclude):
1. Put the system controller (Z-Wave transmitter) into exclusion mode (Exclude) by following the
instructions provided by the controller manufacturer.
2. Press the On/Off button on Andromeda Socket three times within 1.5 seconds.
Reset (Reset):
1. Press and hold the On/Off button on Andromeda Socket for approx. 6 seconds until the
indication light glows steadily.
2. Release the On/Off button on and press ones again within 3 seconds.
NOTE: Use this procedure only in the event that the system controller (Z-Wave transmitter) is
missing or otherwise inoperable.
Associating Andromeda Socket in a Z-Wave Network (Associate):
The Andromeda Socket supports the Association Group 1 (Lifeline) and up to 5 devices can be
added to this group. Association process only works after the device has been included to a Z-Wave
network.
1. Put the controller into Association mode. Some controllers can automatically associate. See the
controller manufacturer manual.
2. Identify Andromeda Socket to the controller by sending the node information, do this by
pressing the On/Off button three times within 1.5 seconds.
3. The controller should confirm association when the process is successfully completed. See the
controller manufacturer manual for more information.
