1. Overview
The BGR750 is a modern, flatbed Boarding Gate Reader for all barcoded boarding passes,
designed specifically to allow intuitive use with all media types including the latest mobile devices
and smartwatches.
The device reads barcode tickets presented face-down over the scanning window. The large
window, wide viewing angle, and depth-of-field creates a large barcode reading area, which makes
positioning of the barcode easy. The barcode is detected and read even before the document
'touches down'. An integrated display screen presents information from the boarding pass to the
operator and passenger. The screen also displays instructional icons to enhance user interaction.
The BGR750 can be supplied equipped for contactless operation. Additionally, the BGR’s large
scanning window has been designed to allow for optional passport MRZ reading to be purchased as
a software licence.
Designed with a very low profile, the BGR750 is an ideal solution for desktop or embedded use.
Installation flexibility is further extended by the choice of angled or no screen (OEM only) versions to
suit the application.

3. Installation
3.1 Unpack the BGR750
Unpack the BGR750 and ensure that you have the following items:
•Advisory notice card.
•BGR750 device.
•Serial and power cable.
or
•USB and power cable.
•Universal 12 V AC power supply.
Report any missing items or damage immediately to your Sales Representative.
3.2 Connect the BGR750
Connectors for host, printer, Ethernet, USB and mini HDMI are located on the back of the BGR750.
Note: The over-moulding for the host cable is colour-coded green to match label under the
connector. The over-moulding for the printer cable is colour-coded blue to match label under the
connector. Ethernet, USB and mini HDMI ports are available by firmware upgrade.
To connect the BGR750:
1. Switch off the computer.
2. Push the RJ50 connector into the host socket on the back of the BGR750 until you hear a click.
3. If using a serial cable, connect the serial connector to a COM port on the computer and
finger-tighten the two thumbscrews to secure the connector to the port.
Figure 2: Serial connection

3.3 Mount the BGR750
The optional desk mount bracket provides a simple means to secure the device to a desktop or
podium. The addition of the bracket prevents the hardware being accidentally knocked to the ground
and damaged, potentially at a critical time in boarding. In addition, it is a deterrent against agents
relocating hardware or theft.
To mount the BGR750:
1. Secure the bracket to base of the BGR750 with four M4 countersunk screws (supplied).
Figure 5: Secure the desk mount bracket to the base of the BGR750
2. Secure the bracket to the desktop or podium using three screws (not supplied). The countersunk
hole diameter in the bracket is 4.7 mm.

3.4 NFC/RFID installation guidelines
To optimise the performance of your Access-IS device DO NOT install it with its NFC/RFID antenna
within 40 mm of a large metal or electrically-conductive component or structure.
Important: Failure to observe this instruction may lead to the product’s NFC performance
deteriorating or even failing completely.
Figure 8: BGR750 NFC/RFID installation guidelines
Notes:
1. RFID functionality is directly affected by electrically-conductive components: ideally it is best to
avoid placing metallic components near the unit.
2. No metal components should enter the areas indicated by the red transparent zone as they will
directly affect the RFID performance.
3. If metalwork in the red transparent regions cannot be avoided, please contact Access-IS before
installation.
3.5 Configure the BGR750
There are two methods to configure the BGR750, including setting the host protocol:
1. Using the BGR Configuration Tool, which you can download from the Access-IS website
(http://www.access-is.com/gettingstarted/).
2. Using a configuration barcode provided by Access-IS.

Page 13 of 18 Copyright © Access-IS 2019
4. Operation
To read a barcoded boarding pass:
•Place the document face-down into the barcode reader zone. As soon as a document is
detected, the barcode reader’s LEDs will illuminate the document.
Note: The BGR750 will automatically illuminate a barcode on a mobile device at a lower level
than a barcode on a paper document.
The barcode imager is omni-directional, and a well-printed document should be read almost
immediately.
Better read performance will be achieved if the document is held flat on the glass surface within
the reading zone (clear area of the glass).
The boarding application determines if the document is valid, and the BGR750 sends a
message to the operator message display. Either the green LED (OK to Board) or the red LED
(Do Not Board) is illuminated.
To read a passport (on OCR-enabled units):
•Place the document flat on the glass area of the BGR750 making sure the whole document is
presented.
The document will be read once movement stops. Green LEDs will indicate that the document
has been read.
RFID enabled units will read the RFID data from ICAO documents where applicable. Other RFID
travel cards are supported on a case by case basis. Please contact support for assistance.
If the BGR750 does not appear to be working:
•Contact Customer Support (support@access-is.com) for further assistance.
Alternatively, use the Contact Customer Support page on the Access-IS website.
Note: Do not attempt to disassemble the BGR750 if it does not operate correctly. Any attempt to do
so may be dangerous and will invalidate the warranty.

Page 14 of 18 Copyright © Access-IS 2019
5. Maintenance
Limited maintenance of the BGR750 is required as the unit is free from moving parts.
5.1 Cleaning
General, monthly cleaning of the imager window with a lint-free cloth is recommended to remove
any dust and build up of debris. If the window is dirty, wipe the glass with a lint-free cloth moistened
with isopropyl alcohol or use an alcohol wipe.
Do not use abrasive cleaners.
5.2 Storage
Store the unit in its original box, at a temperature of 0°C to 60°C.
