HEATED SOCK LINERS
USER MANUAL
For Sock Liner : 9BHWSL3 Series
Welcome. These ActiVHeat®battery-operated heated sock liners have
been designed to provide you with warmth where and when you need it,
whatever the weather.
The unique heating system is based upon soft non-metallic fibers that are
extremely efficient in generating heat from batteries. These non-metallic
fiber bundles are sewn into your ActiVHeat® sock liners to provide warmth
to your feet.
Check Sizing First!
Check package for size before opening the other
packages.
Check this package contains :
• A pair of ActiVHeat®Sock Liners ;
• 2 x ActiVHeat®Sock Battery Packs in 2 x Fabric Bat-
tery Pack Ankle Wraps
Getting Started
You will need 6 x AA batteries (3 each foot). You may use new, fresh, high
capacity, high drain 1.5 V-1.6V AA batteries. For your convenience, we
have provided a performance table below of some commonly sold batteries.
For example, the Energizer Lithium L91 provides up to 6 hours of constant
heat at the LOW setting, whereas the Duracell Coppertop provides 1.8 hours
of constant heat at the HIGH setting. Different AA primary batteries will result
in very different heating time.

Lower drain and lower capacity batteries will result in shorter heating
times and lower heat levels.Use of batteries that have been stored for a
long period or have already been used may result in the glove liners not
heating properly. You MUST NOT use 1.2V AA rechargeable NiMh or
NiCd batteries as they will be damaged by the battery packs. You
may use rechargeable Zn-Ni 1.6V 1500mAh AA batteries. Other re-
chargeable upgrade solutions are available from www.activheat.com.
Put on your sock liners with the sockets facing the INSIDE of your legs.
The wires inside the soft fabric channel running down the inside of the
socks do not produce any heat. These sock liners heat under the soles of
your feet.
Installing the Batteries
Unwrap the fabric Ankle Wraps and remove
the Battery Packs .
1. Gently slide open the Battery Compart-
ment Cover on a Battery Pack .
2. Insert three suitable AA batteries ensur-
ing the +ve and –ve terminals of the batteries
match the terminals for the battery compart-
ments as shown right. The middle battery should
inserted with the + sign towards the switch and
the two outer batteries should be inserted with
the + sign away from the switch .
3. Test whether the batteries are inserted correctly
by sliding the switch on the top of the battery
pack (shown opposite). If the heat level light illu-
minates RED or GREEN then the batteries are installed correctly. If it
does not illuminate then check the battery orientation is correct.
4. Slide the switch until the light goes off so you don’t waste the batteries.
5. Gently slide the cover closed.
Installing the Battery Pack
1. The Battery Pack has a plug at one end of the ca-
ble. This plug at the end of a curly Power cable con-
nects to a socket on your sock liner.
2. Firmly connect the plugs on the Battery Packs to the
sock liners sockets. If plugs and sockets are not
firmly connected, the sock liners will not heat.

3. Each Battery Pack should be inserted into the pocket on an Ankle Wrap
with the switch accessible and the heat level light visible through the top
window panel of the Ankle Wrap. Close Ankle Wrap cover to secure the
Battery
Pack.
4. Fit the An-
kle Wrap
on your
lower leg
with the
window
facing upward towards your waist. The Battery Pack should
located on the OUTSIDE of your leg. Adjust for fit.
5. Pull on a pair of outer socks to trap the heat gener-
ated by the heated sock liners. Put on your shoes.
6. Your ActiVHeat®sock liners are now ready to use.
Adjusting the Heat Level
The ActiVHeat®Battery Pack has a 3-position slide
switch and a colored Heat Level Light on one end
which varies from Red, Green or Off when you slide
the switch between the three positions.
No Light = OFF (NO HEAT)
Red = Up to 2 hours* (HIGH HEAT)
Green = Up to 6 hours* (LOW HEAT)
* Actual operating hours are dependant upon the en-
ergy capacity and drain capacity of the batteries used.
Higher capacity and higher drain batteries
will perform longer and/or hotter.
Warning:
Do not use the battery pack:
a) when it is wet, or
b) when ambient temperature is above
85°F (~30°C).
Keep batteries away from fire and other
heat sources to avoid the risk of explo-
sion. Always keep the Battery Pack out
of reach of children.
Getting the Best Results
The sock liners should be worn against your skin, and you should wear an
outer sock to trap the heat around your feet. 3

The ActiVHeat®system will provide heat under your feet for up to 6 hours of
continuous use (on LOW setting). You will get the best from your ActiVHeat®
sock liners by using the Battery Pack switch as described below.
Normally you would switch your ActiVHeat®sock liners to HIGH (Red) ap-
proximately 5 minutes before going outside. Depending upon the external
temperature and how physically active you are, you should then be able to
switch the heat down to LOW or to OFF after approx. 5 - 10 minutes, as the
heat generated from your muscles will be sufficient to keep your feet warm if
you are active.
If you become inactive, or the temperature drops or you feel cold, switch the
heat on to HIGH immediately until you either start moving again or you reach
a comfortable temperature, when you may be able to switch down the heat
level to extend the battery time.
Always keep extra batteries with you when using outdoors so you have heat
when you need it.

Safety Features
The ActiVHeat®heating system has been designed for safe and reliable use.
DO NOT replace or interfere with the electrical components in the heated
sock liners, the Battery Pack, the battery pack.
The ActiVHeat®system, including battery pack, is not designed to be used
under water. If the sock liners gets very wet during use (such as in heavy
rain) detach the Battery Pack and do not use the Battery Pack until the sock
liners are fully dry. The sock liners may be used as regular sock liners even
when wet without the Power cable and Battery pack. In addition, the Battery
Pack must never be immersed in water as this will cause electrical faults.
Keep all electrical parts dry.
Care and Washing Guide
IMPORTANT!:The Battery Pack must never get wet. To avoid damaging
your ActiVHeat®sock liners, before washing you MUST detach the Battery
Pack plug from the sock liners. Remove batteries from Battery Packs when
not in use.

What if my heated sock liners gets damaged?
DO NOT attempt to replace or interfere with the electrical components in the
ActiVHeat®sock liners. The ActiVHeat®sock liners may not be repaired in
any way as this may damage the electrical parts and make them unsafe.
Rechargeable battery upgrade or an upgrade to get
the battery packs off your legs?
Upgrade to a rechargeable battery solution and/or a “freedom” battery pack
cabling accessory to move the battery packs off your legs. Lightweight
rechargeable battery pack and “weightless” battery pack accessory upgrades
are available to purchase from the website: http://www.activheat.com.
What if my ActiVHeat®sock liners don’t get warm?
1. Wait a few minutes to feel the warmth. These socks get warm not hot. The
ActiVHeat®sock liners produces a gentle warmth under the sole of your
foot not a sudden burst of heat.
2. Ensure you are wearing an oversock and shoe over the sock liner to trap
the heat that is produced.
3. Check the ActiVHeat®Battery Pack is switched so the RED indicator light
comes on.
4. Check the Battery pack plugs are firmly connected to the sock liners sock-
ets .
5. Ensure the AA batteries are connected in the correct +ve and –ve posi-
tions inside the battery pack.
6. Ensure the AA batteries you use are high capacity, high drain fresh batter-
ies. Old, low capacity, low drain or partly drained batteries may not work
evidenced by low or no heat.
If you experience any discomfort while wearing these sock liners, remove
them immediately & consult your doctor before resuming use. People with re-
duced heat sensitivity should consult their doctor before use.
Still cold?
