Introduction
The HomeGuard LED family of security flood
lights, built with rugged die cast aluminum
construction, are long lasting, energy efficient
solutions for replacing incandescent PAR lamp
fixtures. Mounted under the eave or on the wall,
these luminaires provide reliable security lighting
in residential and commercial applications.
The HGX family has six configurations both in
bronze and white. Featuring a low cost version for
switched circuits to a fully featured product that
includes an integral photocell for that automatic
dusk-to-dawn operation, color tuning, adjustable
lumens and a motion sensor. With tool-less easy-
to-aim lamps, HGX installs quickly, and delivers a
lumen range from 1700 to 4100. The HGX family
provide great flexibility and versatility.

FEATURES & SPECIFICATIONS
INTENDED USE
HGX security floods are ideal for an energy efficient replacement for two lamp 200W incandescent
security lights. The HGX LED provides over 50K hours of maintenance-free general illumination
for outdoor applications. HGX with its 2RH/3RH/2SH head with PE options prevents daylight
operation and saves on energy costs. Further with adjustable light output and color tuning
technology built into HGX, it provides great flexibility for mounting and color selection. Ideal for
entrances, walkways, corridors, yards, driveways and patios.
CONSTRUCTION
Cast-aluminum housing with dark bronze or white polyester powder paint for lasting durability.
Photocell sensitivity is adjustable. LED lamp heads are thermally isolated from the driver that is
located in the rear housing, promoting a long service life. Lenses are sealed to prolong service life.
LEDs maintain 70% of light output at 50,000 hours of service life.
ELECTRICAL
HGX family comes in six configurations from low cost version which is on switched circuit to a fully
featured product which has adjustable lumens, photocell, color and motion. The HGX is rated for
outdoor installations .The 2 RH versions consume 25W and 3RH version consumes 36W power,
120V input 60 HZ driver. LED's with min. 80 CRI provide great quality of light and rendering. HGX
with PIR option (motion sensor) has up to 180 degree motion detection angle, range of up to 40'
at 18C/65 F and has three modes - test, 1 or five minutes on time after motion is detected. Motion
sensitivity and daylight sensing is adjustable. Wall Sconce PIR unit is recommended for wall mount
only.
ADJUSTABLE FEATURES
Adjustable light output - select HGX products include adjustable lumen output -2 settings on 2
head versions & 3 settings on 3 RH version. The lumens can be adjusted by rotation of dial. Use
the same product to mount on various mounting heights by increasing or decreasing the light
output. Color Tuning - Color temperature of the lamp heads can be switched with rotation of dial
from warm to cool to daylight. Adjustable photocell - the sensitivity of the PE can be adjusted. The
dial can be turned off to make the light turn on during day time, or have it only as dusk-to-dawn
operation.
INSTALLATION
Mounts to a recessed junction box on wall or ceiling. Crossbar and hardware provided. Wet
location listed for mounting 4 feet above ground. Tool-less adjustable heads allow for precise
aiming.
LISTINGS
UL/cUL listed Listed to U.S. and Canadian safety standards for wet locations. Tested in accordance
with IESNA LM-79 and LM-80 standards. ENERGY STAR®certified product. All units are IP65
except HGX PIR which is wet location. HGX is rated for use in ambient conditions ranging from
-40° C to 40° C.

involved. Regular xture maintenance programs are recommended.
• This xture is intended to be connected to a properly installed and
grounded UL listed junction box.
• It will occasionally be necessary to clean the outside of the refractor/
lens. Refractor/lens should be washed in a solution of warm water and
any mild, non-abrasive household detergent, rinsed with clean water and
wiped dry. Should optical assembly become dirty on the inside, wipe
refractor/lens and clean in above manner, replacing damaged gaskets
as necessary.
• DO NOT INSTALL DAMAGED PRODUCT! This luminaire has been
properly packed so that no parts should have been damaged during
transit. Inspect to conrm. Any part damaged or broken during or after
assembly should be replaced.
• Recycle: For information on how to recycle LED electronic products,

►Make all electrical and grounded connections in accordance with
the National Electrical Code (NEC) and any applicable local code

an LED product directly to a dimmer packs, occupancy sensor, timing
device, or other related control devices. LED xtures must be powered
directly o a switched circuit.
►Unless individual product specications deem otherwise: Do not restrict
xture ventilation. Allow for some volume of airspace around the xture.
Avoid covering LED xtures with insulation, foam, or other material that
will prevent convection or cooling.
►Unless individual product specications deem otherwise: Do not exceed
xtures maximum ambient temperature.
►Only use xture in its intended location.
►LED products are Polarity Sensitive. Ensure proper Polarity before
installation.
►Electrostatic Discharge (ESD): ESD can damage LED xtures. Personal
grounding equipment must be worn during all installation or servicing
of unit.
►Do not touch individual electrical components as this can cause ESD,
shorten lamp life, or alter performance.
►Some components inside the xture may not be serviceable. In the
unlikely event your unit may require service, stop using the unit
immediately and contact an ABL representative for assistance.
► Changes or modications not expressly approved by Acuity Brands
Lighting could void the authority to operate the equipment.
►Always read the xtures complete installation instructions prior to
installation for any additional xture specic warnings.
►Allow lamp/xture to cool before handling. Do not touch enclosure, lens
or light source.
►Do not exceed maximum wattage marked on luminaire label.
►Follow all manufacturer’s warnings, recommendations and restrictions
including but not limited to: driver type, burning position, mounting
locations/methods, replacement and recycling.

REQUIRED TOOLS
For installation to properly installed and grounded UL listed round
recessed or surface mounted weatherproof junction box.
Suitable for wall mount between 6 to 8ft (1,8-2,4m) height with
Accent light facing the ground. Not suitable for mounting within 4ft
(1.2m) from ground
Note: Mounting xture above or below the recommended height
may cause motion sensor not to work properly. If xture is mounted
higher than 8ft (2.4m), the distance and downward sensitivity
will be reduced. The detector is less sensitive to motion directly
towards it.
Do NOT use with dimmers or timers or on multiple switch circuits.
Do NOT install on the same circuit with an electric motor (i.e.
appliances, HVAC equipment, washer/dryer, garage door
openers, etc.
Do NOT install near objects that change temperature rapidly, such
as heating vents and air conditioners. These heat sources
could cause false triggering.
Do NOT install Nearby large, light-colored objects reecting light
may trigger the shut-o feature. Do not point other lights at the
daylight sensor.
Turn OFF Power at circuit breaker box
CAUTION: Do not rely on wall switch alone to turn o power.
3. INSTALLING MOUNTING BRACKET
Note: Center mounting screw and bracket are pre-installed on the
light xture for shipping.
• Loosen the center mounting screw (E) and remove the
mounting bracket.
• Install the mounting bracket (D) to the junction box using two
3/4” #6 or #8 or #10 mounting screws (F).
Note: Choose one of the 3 screw sizes provided depending on
your junction box.
6. FIXTURE INSTALLATION
• Align xture over j-box and secure to mounting bracket by
tightening center mounting screw (E).
Note: Make sure no wires are pinched before tightening.
• Insert rubber plug (H) into center hole to cover the center
mounting screw head for moisture seal.
4. CAUTION: WIRING
Make sure power is turned o.
• Use wire nut to connect the bare copper or green house
supply ground wire to the green xture ground wire. Note:
If house wiring does not include a ground wire, consult your
local electrical code for approved grounding methods.
For proper connection, place wire nut over wires
and twist clockwise until tight.
• Use wire nut to connect the white xture wire to the white
(neutral) house supply wire.
• Use wire nut to connect the black xture wire to the black
house supply wire.
5. MOISTURE SEAL
• Apply silicone caulking (not included) around perimeter of the
xture where it contacts the mounting surface to avoid water
entry.
Turn on electricity at fuse or circuit breaker box and make sure the
wall switch is on.
Note: Light will not come on during daylight.
• Cover Light Sensor to verify success of installation.

1. MOTION SENSOR SETTINGS
If you like to test your light during the daytime
• Set MODE dial to the TEST position to disable the photocell
and allow light to come on during daylight hours.
• Walk across your motion detection zone (40ft/180degree).
Note: Walk in a zigzag direction. Walking up to the motion
detector in a straight line may keep you in between detection
regions, and your light will not come on.
• If you nd motion detection is to sensitive use MOTION dial
to reduce sensitivity.
Note: Factory setting is at highest sensitivity. The sensitivity can
be adjusted to increase or decrease detection if desired. Adjust
the sensitivity as needed. If sensitivity is set too high it may cause
false triggering.
FIXTURE OPERATION
2. TIME SETTING
Once Motion detection is conrmed, set the time you want the
light to stay on after motion stops.
• Set MODE dial to 1M (minute) or 5M (minutes)
CAN THE LIGHTS STILL BE TURNED
ON/OFF WITH A LIGHT SWITCH?
At night Lights can be turned on or o manually with a wall switch
or circuit breaker in the Manual Override Mode.
MANUAL OVERRIDE
NOTE: MODE dial must be set at 1M or 5M to use manual
override
To disable the motion sensor and keep the light continuously on
for the night, ip the wall switch o for 5 seconds and then back
on.
To reset to Security mode, ip the switch o again for 5 seconds
and then back on.
If you leave the light on all night it will automatically turn o at
dawn and reset to Security mode.
NOTE: If you get confused while switching modes, turn the power
at the breaker or wall switch o for one minute, then back on. After
the calibration time, the control will be in the Security mode.

dial to adjust light sensor sensitivity if desired.

3. AIM LAMP HEADS
Gently grasp lamp heads (B) and position in desired directions.
CAUTION - Risk of Shock: Aim lamp heads at least 20°down
below horizontal in order to prevent water from accumulating
inside lens.
4. BRIGHTNESS LEVEL SETTING
Fixture is preset to full brightness indicated by the larger sun icon
above the DIM dial. If lower brightness is desired set DIM dial to
small sun icon.
5. LIGHT COLOR SETTING
Note: Light color is not adjustable for Accent light, the adjustment
is only for lamp heads.
