Exhaust Tube Adapter
This technical note describes the installation of the Exhaust Tube Adapter Kit
(G1364-68709) to one of the following modules:
•1260 Infinity II Preparative Fraction Collector (G1364E),
•1260 Infinity II Analytical Fraction Collector (G1364F),
•1260 Infinity II Bio-inert Fraction Collector (G5664B).

Application and Safety Information
The exhaust tube adapter offers you the capability to connect your fraction collector to
a laboratory’s venting system, allowing the adaptation of a tube (not included) with an
ID greater than 40 mm to your fraction collector.
Insufficient ventilation
Organic solvent vapours can reach explosive concentrations when they are not removed
sufficiently with an appropriate venting system.
➔ Connect the exhaust tube to the laboratory’s venting system.
➔ Ensure a minimum air flow of 10 m
3
/ h through the exhaust tube.
➔ Ensure an underpressure in the venting system.
WARNING

Flammable solvent vapors
Fire or explosion hazard through electrostatic discharge
➔ Ground the venting tube, the analytical equipment and the venting system.
1 Attach the exhaust tube adapter to the left side slits of the rear
fan exhaust grid with an angle of about 90 °.
2 Push the adapter into the grid and turn it sidewards, so that its
latch covers the hole for the holding screw.
3 Use the screw delivered in the Exhaust tube adapter kit to
fasten the adapter latch to the rear of the fraction collector.
Next Steps:
4 Obtain and attach an exhaust tube (tube ID must be slightly
greater than 40 mm) to the adapter. An exhaust tube is NOT
provieded with the Exhaust Tube Adapter kit. The exhaust tube
must be mechanically stable, leak tight and resistant to the
solvents used in your system.
5 Fix the exhaust tube to the adapter with an appropriate
connector (e.g. hose clamp). Ground the exhaust tube.
6 The other outlet of the exhaust tube must be installed in a
fume hood or connected to a vent system in a way, that the
resulting air flow through the exhaust tube is at least 10 m
3
/h.

An air flow through the vent tube greater than 10 m3/h reduces the cooling performance of a
thermostatted instrument and increases the evaporation of solvents in your fraction vessels.
