Setting up your PTT Voice Responder
to work with WAVE-based apps (Android)

NOTE! If you have a Sonim phone, please follow the Sonim XP8or XP5S guide.
Follow this guide if you are using one of the following
applications:
AT&T Enhanced Push-to-Talk, Bell Next-Generation Push-
to-Talk, MIRS 4G PTT, KPN Push-to-Talk, Movistar Push-
to-Talk, Sprint Direct Connect Plus, Telefónica Push-to-
Talk, Tigo Push-to-Talk, Verizon Wireless Push-to-Talk
Plus, Vivo Push-to-Talk, Vodafone Push to Talk, or
Ericsson Cloud-based Push-to-Talk.

Putting your PTT Voice Responder into
WAVE-mode
NOTE! If you have a Sonim phone, please follow the Sonim XP8or XP5S guide.
1. Turn on the device by pressing the Power button for more than 3 seconds.
2. Then, perform a software reset by pressing and holding both arrow buttons
and both PTT buttons simultaneously, until the LED turns off (this step is
necessary to remove any previous pairings and settings).
3. Turn off the device by pressing the Power button for more than 3 seconds.
4. Activate WAVE-mode by holding down the Volume-down button, while
turning on the device by pressing the Power button for more than 3 seconds.
Successful activation is indicated by an orange LED indication instead of the
normal power on LED.
5. Finally, put the Voice Responder into Storage mode, by pressing the Power and
Emergency button simultaneously; after the beep, first release the Power
button and then the Emergency button. Afterwards, you can turn on your
device from the Power button as usual.

Pairing your PTT Voice Responder to
your smartphone via Bluetooth
1. Turn on your PTT Voice Responder by holding down the Power button for
more than 3 seconds. After it is on, a blinking green light will indicate that the
device is ready for pairing.
2. Turn on your phone’s Bluetooth by going to: Settings —> Bluetooth —> Turn
on.
3. Pair your PTT Voice Responder to your phone by selecting it from the Devices
list. When the device is in WAVE-mode, it will appear as ‘Kodiak-PTT’on the
Bluetooth menu. Once it has successfully paired, a blue light will begin
blinking on your device.
4. In your WAVE application, go to Settings and make sure to enable “Use
Bluetooth - Use Bluetooth for PTT calls”.
NOTE: The Voice Responder can only be paired with one
device at a time. If you want to pair it to another device
you need to perform an Unpairing/Software reset by
pressing and holding both arrow buttons and both PTT
buttons simultaneously, until the LED turns off.

Additional features
Once your Voice Responder is connected, go to Settings where you will now find
additional features. We recommend to do the following:
1. Enable "Call From Lock Screen": Especially for mobile devices locked with PIN
code or fingerprint, this function is necessary to use the Voice Responder
without having to unlock the device first
2. Enable "Background Mode": If you are using other apps on the device, you
might want to keep the PTT app in the background. If this is not enabled, the
PTT app will pop up to the front.
3. Go to "One Touch Action" => "Landing Page..." and select the appropriate
option that should be triggered when pressing the PTT button during a locked
screen, e.g. "History" will trigger a call to the last contact you communicated
to while "Favorite Contacts" will trigger a call to a favorite contact.

Primary PTT
Press and hold to speak. Release when you are done.
Volume buttons
Press and hold to increase/ decrease the speaker’s volume.
Arrow buttons
These buttons have multiple
functions:
•Press and hold the left arrow button to (de)activate the
LED.
•
Press and hold both arrow buttons to (de)activate
Covert Mode in which the LED indications are
suppressed and the audio is only delivered through a
headset.
