SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
TPH900
The inputs and outputs of the TPH900 are all declared SELV (Safety Extra Low Voltage).
Antenna (Plate A-II, item 2)
Do not fold the antenna.
Connectors (Plate A-II, items 18 and 22)
Do not remove the connector protection unless absolutely necessary.
Safety precautions when using Li-Ion batteries (Plate A-II, item 20)
Lithium/ion technology requires a certain number of precautions to be taken, both for safety reasons
and to maximise the life of the battery. Each battery pack has a special protective circuit as well as
a protective heat device in the form of a fuse. However, certain basic rules given below must be
respected in order to ensure the safety of users and to maximise battery life.
Basic rules
1) Batteries must not be short-circuited, opened, soldered or exposed to high temperatures
(above 60°C/140°F), otherwise they may explode or catch fire, causing serious injury.
2) Use manufacturer batteries only with items also made by the manufacturer (terminal, charger).
3) Dispose of worn batteries in an appropriate receptacle in accordance with current regulations.
4) Do not charge batteries with chargers other than those recommended by the manufacturer.
5) Do not discharge batteries other than when installed in a terminal.
Battery storage
1) Partially-charged batteries can be stored under the following conditions without stock
management and without being recharged:
-20°C / 25°C: 6 months,
-20°C / 35°C: 1 month,
-20°C / 45°C: 1 week.
2) Carry out a periodic visual inspection of the battery in accordance with the storage conditions
above. Also check that the contacts are clean.
Note: If battery packs are stored fully discharged or fully charged, they may be permanently
damaged.


Place of storage
The storage conditions must comply with the following rules:
1) Store the batteries in a clean room under surveillance. In particular, the room must be equipped
with smoke detectors.
2) Do not store dangerous products in the same room.
3) Do not store them close to a source of heat.
4) The level of humidity in the room must be below 65%.
5) Do not expose the batteries to excessive shocks or vibrations.
6) If possible, store the boxes containing the batteries close to a smoke detector.
7) Do not store the batteries in an explosive environment.
Packaging
• For HT10449AA (kit of 5 batteries) (Plate A-III, items 1 to 12):
-Store the batteries in their original packaging: boxes of 5 batteries and individual packaging.
• For HT10450AA (kit of 20 batteries) (Plate A-IV, items 1 to 11):
-Store the batteries in their original packaging: boxes of 20 batteries and individual packaging.
• For individual batteries: if the original packaging for kits of batteries (5 or 20) and/or
individual original boxes are no longer available (Plate A-III, items 1 to 4)
-Opt for fireproof packaging if possible (class C according to NF EN 13 501-1).
-Avoid any potential short circuit.
-Avoid stacking the batteries in this packaging.
-Do not stack the packages on top of each other.

CAUTION: General recommendations:
•Do not open the battery.
• Do not throw into fire, do not short-circuit.
• Store in appropriate conditions.
• Do not store at temperatures above 60°C.

Battery use
1) Carry out a full charge/discharge cycle before the battery is used for the first time.
2) Never allow a battery to discharge completely, and at the end of an assignment always charge the
battery using a charger or installed in a terminal.
3) Do not expose batteries in use to temperatures above 55°C.
4) Carry out a periodic visual inspection of the battery. Also check that the contacts are clean.
5) For temperatures lower than 0°C, the battery capacity is temporarily reduced. When the battery’s
temperature returns to values between 0°C and +55°C, it will resume its normal capacity.
Safety precautions and information relating to exposure of users to electromagnetic fields
The TPH900 terminal complies with the limits for exposure of workers as laid down in the European
Directive 2013/35/EU. This directive requires compliance with the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR)
limit, which is the radio frequency energy absorbed by the body. This limit is fixed by the directive at
10W/kg (averaged over 10 g of human tissue).
The TPH900 SAR is measured against a European standard by operating the terminal at maximum
power in permanent transmit mode against the ear, as with a GSM mobile.
Therefore, for the TPH900 terminal, the SAR level is 4.5 W/kg (380–430 MHz) on the ear.
Precautions when using the TPH900 terminal
A - Precautions concerning users and non-users
Precautions must be taken in certain situations (when driving or using in certain locations:
aeroplanes, hospitals, service stations, ammunition storage areas, etc.). Precautions should be taken
by wearers of electronic implants (pacemakers, insulin pumps, neurostimulators, etc.), in particular
regarding the distance between the portable radio and the implant.
In collective listening mode, the terminal or speaker microphone should not be placed close to
the ear: the audio power emitted by the terminal or speaker microphone may damage the user's
hearing after this incorrect use.
B - Advice to reduce the level of user exposure
The SAR level of the TPH900 can be reduced by the following actions:
• Reduce the power in direct mode (menu setting).
• Reduce the transmit time (the transmit time is the time during which the push-to-talk* button is
held down). For example, a handportable declared with an SAR of 4.5 W/kg in permanent transmit
mode will result in an SAR of 2.25 W/kg for the user, if the handportable is in transmit mode at
maximum power for 50% of the time (averaged over six minutes).
• Use the offset roof antenna when using the vehicle kit inside a vehicle.
* It is estimated that the periods transmitting in BS-connected mode during base station polling are
insignificant compared to the periods transmitting via the push-to-talk (PTT) button.

INSTALLATION / UNINSTALLATION
Battery pack (Plate A-I)
• Installation
Install the battery pack as follows (see Plate A-I, illustration A):
1) Position the battery pack behind the TPH900.
2) Place the upper part of the battery pack in the box's mechanical adaptation (action ).
3) Push the lower part of the battery back against the box to lock the battery pack (action ).
• Removal
Remove the battery pack as follows (see Plate A-I, illustrations B to D):
1) Hold the TPH900 firmly with one hand, screen downwards, as shown on illustrations B and C,
action .
2) With the other hand, push the battery pack against the TPH900 box, pressing to compress the box
seal, as shown on illustrations B and C, action .
3) Use your thumbnail to lift the release button, as shown on illustrations B and C, action .
4) Now lift the battery pack, as shown on illustration D, action .
Antenna (Plate A-I)
• Installation
1) Screw the antenna (item 3) into the antenna connector of the TPH900 box (item 2).
2) Slightly tighten the antenna manually up to the point of resistance.

Note: To be operational the TPH900 must be charged, configured and customised using the TPS
(see TPS Operating Manual, reference PS10506 or PS10517 depending on the project).
• Removal
Unscrew the antenna (item 3) from the antenna connector of the TPH900 box (item 2) and remove it.

The battery pack charge level is indicated on the display, with the following value ranges:
If necessary, charge the battery pack using a single-unit or six-cavities charger.
USING THE TPH900
The use of the TPH900 is described in the User Manual of the TPH900 terminal (reference PS11479).

POWERING DOWN (PLATE A-II)
• Press and hold down the key (item 4) on the TPH900. A confirmation message appears.

La technologie Lithium/ion nécessite un certain nombre de précautions afin de sécuriser son
utilisation et optimiser sa durée de vie. Chaque pack batterie intègre donc un circuit de protection
spécifique et des protections thermiques (fusible). Cependant, il convient de respecter certaines
règles de bases citées ci-dessous afin de garantir la meilleure sécurité à l’utilisateur et une durée de
vie optimale.
Règles de base :
1) Il est impératif de ne pas court-circuiter les batteries, de ne pas les ouvrir, de ne pas effectuer de
soudure, de ne pas les exposer à une température élevée (supérieure à 60 °C/140 °F) sous peine
d’explosion et d’incendie, avec graves dommages aux personnes.
2) Utiliser les batteries constructeur uniquement sur les éléments constructeur (terminal, chargeur).
3) Rebuter les batteries en fin de vie conformément aux normes en vigueur, dans un collecteur
approprié.
4) Ne pas charger les batteries avec d’autres chargeurs que ceux prévus par le constructeur.
5) Ne pas décharger les batteries autrement que sur un terminal.
Consignes de stockage des batteries
1) Les packs batterie partiellement chargés peuvent être stockés dans les conditions suivantes sans
gestion de stock et sans effectuer de recharge :
- 20 °C / 25 °C : 6 mois,
- 20 °C / 35 °C : 1 mois,
- 20 °C / 45 °C : 1 semaine.
2) Procéder périodiquement, suivant les conditions de stockage précédentes, à un examen visuel de
la batterie. Contrôler également la propreté des contacts.
Nota : Le stockage de packs batterie totalement déchargés ou complètement chargés peut les
endommager de manière définitive.
