INSTALLATION, OPERATING, AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
The following is intended to provide the basic instructions for installation, operation and maintenance of the Renegade electric
monitor, and to assist in attaining the best possible performance from the unit. Read and understand these operating instructions
before use.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
• Reviewtheinstructions,wiringdiagram,componentlayoutandrotationalstopsdiagrambeforeinstallingthisunit.Thisunit
operateson12or24voltDC.Allelectricalcurrentowsthroughthewires.Themonitordoesnotactasaground.Thewires
fromthecontrolboxescanbecuttothelengthfortheapplication.Donotextendthewiresfromthelogicboxtothemonitor.
• Theoptionalauxiliarybatteryisusedtoensurethatthepropervoltageandcurrentaremaintainedatthelogicboxwhenusing
asmallergaugewire(12Awg)forthepowerleads(vehiclebattery).Iftheoptionalauxiliarybatteryisused,donotextendthe
auxiliarybatterywires.Thiswillensurethatthepropervoltageandcurrentaremaintainedatthemonitorforittooperate
properly.Theoptionalbatteryisautomaticallyrechargedbythetruckelectricalsystemthroughthepositive(auxiliarybattery)
andgroundconnectionsonthecircuitboard.Thevehiclebatteryconnectionsmusthavepowerturnedonwheneverthetruckis
runningsothatthebatterycanberechargedproperly.Ifpossible,connectthepositive(vehiclebattery)wiredirectlytothe
mainvehiclebatteryormainmasterswitch.Adiodeinthelogicboxwillpreventtheoptionalauxiliarybatteryfrom
feedingcurrentbackintothemaintrucksystem.
• Notrecommendedforuseinsaltwaterapplications.
• Forreghtingbytrainedreghtersonly.
• Forusewithwaterorstandardreghtingfoamsonly.Afterusewithfoam,ushwithfreshwater.
• DonotusetheRenegadenozzleasaforcibleentrytool.
• DraintheRenegademonitorandnozzleafterusetoprevent“freezedamage”.
• EnsurethatthethreadinthenozzleswivelmatchesthethreadontheRenegadeoutlet.Donotovertightenthe
nozzle onto the Renegade.
MECHANICAL MONITOR ATTACHMENT
TheMonitoristobemountedonthewaterwaywitheight3/4inchboltsandnutsofgradeveminimumandsuitablewasherswitha
minimumofsixthreadsengagement.Theboltsmustbetightenedinacrisscrosspatternprogressivelyincreasingtighteningtorqueto
amaximumof100footpounddry.Thefrontofthemonitorwillhaveadimpleontheinletange(Figure4).
NOTE:Notrecommendedtomountonaraisedangeorhaveabutteryvalvebetweentheanges.Thismaycausedamagetothe
monitor’sangewhentighteningthebolts.
MECHANICAL ATTACHMENT OF CONTROLLER AND LOGIC BOX
A. CONTROLLERANDTETHERCONNECTORATTACHMENT
PumppanelcutoutandmountingholedimensionsaregiveninFigure2&3.Thecontrollerandtetherconnectorshouldbe
installed in the pump panel prior to electrical connection to the logic box.
B. LOGICBOXATTACHMENT
TheRenegadelogicboxmustbemountedcloseenoughtothemonitortoallowthe8ft.monitorwiringharness
sucientslacktoallowthemonitortotravelthroughitsfullrange.Thelogicboxoveralldimensionsandmountinghole
dimensionsaregiveninFigure5.
WARNING:Donotextendthemonitorwiringharness.
ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
A.CONTROLLER,JOYSTICKORTETHERCONNECTORELECTRICALATTACHMENT
Theseinstructionsareforattachingthecontroller,joystickorthetetherconnectortothelogicbox.Thecontroller,joystickand
tetherconnectoraresuppliedwith8ft.ofcable.
STEP 1 IfthecontrollersincludeanattachedcableskiptoSTEP6.
STEP 2 Determinethelengthof#20-7cableneeded,add10inches,thencut.Forexample,ifavefootlengthof
cableisneeded,add10inchesandcutthecable5foot10incheslong.

STEP 3 Remove the cable grip nut and washer from the control box and put it on the cable with the threads
facing the box. On the same end of the cable remove 4 inches of the outer casing of the cable and strip
back3/8inchfromeachofthe7wires.
STEP 4 Takethe7ringterminalsfromtheplasticbagandcrimpthemonthe7wires.Removethefourcontrol
boxcoverscrewsandsetthecontrolboxcoveraside.Threadthe7wiresthroughthecablegrip
attached to the control box and attach them to the proper terminals. Tighten the cable grip nut and
washer on the cable to the cable grip on the control box to secure the cable. Reattach control box cover
and secure with the four screws.
STEP 5 Remove the cable grip nut from the plastic bag and put it on the other end of the cable with the threads
facingout.Remove6inchesoftheoutercoverandstripback3/8inchfromeachofthe7wires.
STEP 6 Removethe6logicboxcoverscrewsandsetthelogicboxcoveraside.
Threadthe7wiresthroughtheupperorlowercontrolholeinthelogicbox
(seecomponentlayout,Figure5).Threadthecablegripwasherandcablegrip
nutwiththethreadsfacingtheboxonthecable.Pullenoughcablethrough
thecablegriptoensureagoodt.Tightenthecablegripnutandattachthe
individualwirestotheproperterminals(seewiringdiagramFigure6).Reattach
thelogicboxcoverandsecurewiththe6screws.
NOTE: The lower control and upper control wires must be attached to the correct
terminals for the lower control to override the upper control. The one attached to
theMasterterminalwillhavetheoverridingcapabilities.AdjusttheDIPswitchsettingsasneeded.
(Refertothedescriptionbelow.)
B.DIPSWITCHSETTINGS

C.MONITORWIRINGHARNESSATTACHMENT
These instructions are to attach the monitor wiring harness to the logic box.
STEP 7 Removethecablegripnutfromthelogicboxforthewiringharnesscable.DONOTREMOVETHE
CABLEGRIP.Putthecablegripnutonthewiringharnesscablewiththethreadsfacingout.Putthe
cablethroughthecorrectlogicboxcablegrip(seecomponentlayout,Figure5)sothecablegripnutwill
grab the outer cover of the cable. Tighten the cable grip nut and attach the individual wires to the proper
terminals(seewiringschematicFigure6).

D.BATTERYATTACHMENT
Thebatteryconnectionsshouldbethelastconnectionmade.
STEP 8 AUXILIARYBATTERY-Removethelogicboxcablegripnutfortheauxiliarybatteryandplaceitonthe
battery(#16-3)cablewiththethreadsfacingout.Threadthecablethroughthecablegripnutuntilthe
cable grip will grab the cable. Tighten the cable grip and attach the individual wires to the proper
terminals(seewiringschematicFigure6).
NOTE: AuxiliaryBatteryisnotintendedtooperatethemonitor.
STEP 9 VEHICLEBATTERY-Removethelogicboxcablegripnutforthevehiclebatteryandplaceitonthe
batterycable(#10-2or#12-2dependingonlength)withthethreadsfacingout.Threadthecablethrough
the cable grip until the cable grip nut will grab the cable. Tighten the cable grip nut and attach the
individualwirestotheproperterminals(seewiringschematicFigure6).Reattachthelogicboxcoverand
securewiththe6screws.
NOTE: Tosupplyenoughcurrenttooperatethemonitorproperly,adequatewiresizeiscritical.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
A.CONTROLLEROPERATION
The controller is used to control the monitor and nozzle.
1. Tochangethehorizontalmonitorpositiontowardtherightorleft:
Pressthepropertoggleswitchtoward“RIGHT”or“LEFT”respectively,aslabeledonthecontroller,until
the desired position is reached.
2. Tochangetheverticalmonitornozzlepositionupwardordownward:
Pressthepropertoggleswitchtoward“RAISE”or“LOWER”respectively,aslabeledonthecontroller,
until the desired position is reached.
3. Tochangethenozzlepatterntowardthestraightstreamorfogposition:
Pressthepropertoggleswitchtoward“STRAIGHT”or“FOG”respectively,aslabeledonthecontroller,
until the desired nozzle position is reached.
THELOWERCONTROLBOXFUNCTIONSWILLOVERRIDETHEUPPERCONTROLBOXFUNCTIONSINCOMPLIANCEWITHTHE
REQUIREMENTSOFTHENFPASTANDARD.NOTE:THELOWERCONTROLANDUPPERCONTROLWIRESMUSTBEATTACHEDTOTHE
CORRECTTERMINALSFORTHELOWERCONTROL(MASTER)TOOVERRIDETHEUPPERCONTROL(SLAVE).NONEOFTHEFUNC-
TIONSCANBECONTROLLEDFROMTHEUPPERCONTROLBOXWHENANYOFTHESWITCHESONTHELOWERCONTROLBOX
AREACTIVATED.
B.MANUALOVERRIDECONTROLS
Themanualoverridecontrolistobeusedonlywhenthepowertothemonitoriso.Tousethemanualoverride,inserta3/8”hex
driveendintothehexagonshapedhole.Rotatetheoverridecrankinthedesireddirectiontoaimthemonitor.SeeFigure4forloca-
tions of override.
C.STOPS
Thephysicalstoplocationscanbechangedinthehorizontalrotationto340°rotationorto±22.5°rotationfromcenter.SeeFigure4A
for stop and plug locations for the appropriate rotation. The Renegade can also be taught new rotation and elevation limits and stow
anddeploylimits.SeesectionD“LearnMode”.
D.LEARNMODE
RotationandElevationLimits:
Thesoftlimitsarenotsetatthefactory.Tochangethesoftlimits:
•ShutdownPowertomonitor.
•HolddowntheSSswitchandturnthepoweron.ReleasetheSSswitch.
•TheLEDwillashtwicefortheset-upmodeoftheRotationandElevationlimits.Tocontinueto
theStowandDeployset-upmodepressandreleasetheSSswitch.TheLEDwillashthreetimes
fortheStowandDeployset-upmode.
RotationLimits
•MovethemonitortothedesiredLeftlimit(releasetheswitch)
•HolddowntheFogswitchandpressandreleasetheLeftswitchandthenreleasetheFogswitch.
ThiswillsettheLeftlimit.
•MovethemonitortothedesiredRightlimit(releasetheswitch)
•HolddowntheFogswitchandpressandreleasetheRightswitchandthenreleasetheFog
switch. This will set the Right limit.
ElevationLimits
•Movethemonitortothedesiredupperlimit(releasetheswitch)

switch. This will set the upper limit.
•Movethemonitortothedesiredlowerlimit(releasetheswitch)

PressandreleasetheSSswitchtoexittheRotationandElevationset-upmodeandentertheStowandDeploy
set-up mode.

•Movethemonitortothedesiredstowposition.
•HolddowntheFogswitchandpressandreleasetheStowswitchandthenreleasetheFogswitch.

•MovethemonitortothedesiredDeployposition.
•HolddowntheFogswitchandpressandreleasetheDeployswitchandthenreleasetheFog
switch.ThiswillsettheDeployposition.
PressandreleasetheSSswitchtoexittheSet-upmode.

MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
YourRenegademonitorandnozzleshouldbeinspectedpriortoandaftereachusetoensureitisingoodoperatingcondition.
Periodically,anunanticipatedincidentoccurswheretheunitismisusedinamannerthatisinconsistentwithstandardoperating
practices.Apartiallistofpotentialmisusesincludes:
• Operatingabovethemaximumratedpressureorow.
• Prolongedexposuretotemperaturesabove130°F,orbelow-25°F.
• Operatinginacorrosiveenvironment.
• HavingtheRenegadenozzlehitaxedobjectduringoperationortransportation.
• Anyothermisusethatmightbeuniquetoyourspecicenvironment.
Also,therearemany“telltale”signsthatindicaterepairisinorder,suchas:
• Controlsthatareeitherinoperableordiculttooperate.•Poordischargeperformance.
•Excessivewear. •Waterleaks.
Ifanyoftheabovesituationsareencountered,theRenegademonitorshouldbetakenoutofservice,repaired,andtestedbyaquali-
edtechnicianbeforeplacingbackinservice.
