therefore in case of failure Albalá Ingenieros'technical service is
recommended.
•The AVD0001C01 is a telecommunications infrastructure device and must
be installed and operated by technicians with appropriate training.
•The AVD0001C01 is powered by DC voltage. This voltage must be obtained
from the external power supply included with the equipment, or from
another supply that converts the mains voltage into a Safety Extra Low
Voltage (SELV) as per EN 60950-1.
•The equipment should never be powered by overhead power lines that may
be affected by electric or atmospheric discharges. Any power supply used
must be marked with the double insulation or reinforced insulation symbol.
11

Albalá Ingenieros | Manual AVD0001C01
•If the DC voltage is obtained from batteries, the installation must provide
current limiting in case of a short circuit conforming to established
engineering best practices. The power supply's negative output is connected
to the metal case.
•The AVD0001C01 is designed to be operated indoors and should not be
used outside. It should also not be used in explosive, corrosive or radioactive
environments or in applications that could endanger the lives of people or
animals.
•The equipment does not include protective grounding. The AVD0001C01

3.4. Environmental considerations
This symbol indicates that this equipment must be deposited at a collection
point for proper waste treatment once it has reached the end of its useful
life.
3.5. Interconnection
The AVD0001C01 includes the following types of connections:
- Power supply.
- Signal.
3.5.1. Power supply connection
The equipment is supplied with a suitable wall power supply. This power supply can
provide power to a single AVD0001C01. It is possible to connect several devices to the
same power supply as long as it is able to supply the necessary current. Read the
following information carefully before connecting the AVD0001C01 to a power supply
other than the one delivered with the equipment.
The AVD0001C01 power supply is connected via a 2.5mm jack and the voltage must
be between 5 and 15 VDC. The equipment contains an internal switched mode
regulator that allows this wide range of input voltages without reducing energy
efficiency. Power consumption depends on the voltage supplied.
The power supply's negative terminal is connected to the outer ring of the connector
and the metal case of the equipment, while the positive terminal is the connector's
center pole.
If the AVD0001C01 is powered by DC voltage from a vehicle, protection is required for
the common transients (cold crank, load dump, etc) as the equipment has no internal
protections for these events.
3.5.2. Analog video connections
All electrical analog video connections are BNC type. The following suggestions should
be keep in mind when wiring the electrical signals.
All coaxial cable used must be Belden 1694A or similar. This type provides the greatest
lengths because it is used to calculate the equalizers in the AVD0001C01. Cables
carrying signal between the module and the devices should use single piece
construction, avoiding spliced sections with double BNC female or barrel connectors.
If it is necessary to split the cable into two sections the same type of wire should be
used in both sections.
13

Albalá Ingenieros | Manual AVD0001C01
The use of other analog video coaxial cables like RG-59 type or similar is not
recommended except for very short distances.
The analog video outputs use BNC connectors and have an impedance of 75Ω.
The signal input provides loop-through functionality, and the signal can come in
through either of the two BNC connectors with loop-through. In order to load the
input with high impedance a 75Ω terminator should be connected or the termination
can be done using the switch on the front panel of the module.
The AVD0001C01 provides a switch that connects a termination to the input without
requiring a load to be connected to the loop-through output. The switch should be set
to the position labeled 75 ohm. If the other loop-through output is being used to send
signal to another device then this switch should be set to HiZ.

4. OPERATION
This section describes the significance of the AVD0001C01's indicators and equipment
operation when a signal is applied.
4.1. Upper panel description
The appearance of the upper panel and the elements it contains are shown in the
following illustration.
Upper panel of the AVD0001C01
The upper panel contains two LEDs.
POWER ON: Green. This LED lights up when the AVD0001C01 is connected to electrical
power.
IN: 3G. White. This LED indicates that the detected format of the analog video
at the input is equivalent to 3Gbit/s SDI at either 1080p50 or 1080p59.94.
15

Albalá Ingenieros | Manual AVD0001C01
HDi. Cyan. This LED indicates that the detected format of the analog video
at the input is equivalent to 1.5Gbit/s SDI at either interlaced 1080i50 or
1080i59.94.
HDp. Blue. This LED indicates that the detected format of the analog video
at the input is equivalent to 1.5Gbit/s SDI at either progressive 720p50,
720p59.94, 1080p25 or 1080p29.97.
SD. Green. This LED indicates that the detected format of the analog video
at the input is equivalent to SD SDI at either 486i59.94 or 576i50.
OTHER Yellow. This LED lights up if the AVD0001C01 module cannot
recognize the format of the video at the input. In this case the DC restorer
must be deactivated since without knowledge of the line frequency this
circuit cannot function properly. The equalizer will function correctly as long
as the cable used is Belden 1694A, regardless of the video signal format
being distributed.
FAIL. Red. This LED lights up if there is no signal at the video input.
GAIN: Multi-turn potentiometer for adjustment of the video signal gain.
EQ.: Multi-turn potentiometer for adjustment of the video signal equalization.
In the INPUT box:
75 OHM,
HiZ: Switch that allows internal termination of the loop-through input with
75Ω.
In the DC RESTORER box:
ON,
OFF: Switch that activates or deactivates the DC restorer, setting the black level
to zero volts.
In the MODE box:
FAST,
SLOW: Switch that selects the operating mode of the DC restorer.
The signal presence indicator recognizes the format based upon the video
synchronization sequence. The AVD0001C01 does not recognize all standard video
formats, it is limited to those formats listed in the previous table. However if the OTHER
LED lights up the the distributor can function even though it is not indicating the specific
signal format.
4.2. Functional description
The AVD0001C01 is composed of three blocks: a DC restorer, an equalizer and the
output amplifiers that distribute the signal. The first two blocks are described in more
detail in the following.
16

Albalá Ingenieros | Manual AVD0001C01
4.2.1. DC restorer
The purpose of the DC restorer is to set the blanking level of the video signal to zero
volts. The two most common situations where DC restoration is necessary are when
the incoming video signal has some DC voltage superimposed on top of it and when
50/60Hz hum from the electrical network has coupled into the video signal. In the
first case the slow mode of operation should be used, for the second case the fast
mode should be used.
DC RESTORER CONFIGURED
IN FAST MODE
The AVD0001C01 comes from the factory with the DC restorer activated and set to
fast mode.
4.2.2. The equalizer
The equalizer is in charge of modifying the frequency response of the distributor to
compensate for the attenuation incurred as the video signal is transported over
coaxial cable to the input of the AVD0001C01. This is done only once, as the module
has a single input.
A waveform monitor or oscilloscope is required in order to observe the video signals at
the distributor outputs for modification of the frequency response of the equalizer.
While observing the signal the potentiometer is used to adjust the equalizer until the
desired signal waveform has been produced. Keep in mind that proper measurement
of the signal requires a cable that is terminated with 75Ω.
17

Albalá Ingenieros | Manual AVD0001C01
The following figure shows a tri-level sync signal after passing through 300 meters of
cable (left). Neither rise and fall time of the edges nor their amplitude are correct. By
adjusting the EQ. potentiometer to its maximum level (corresponding to the
maximum of 300 meters of cable that can be compensated) a completely
compensated signal is obtained, showing both proper amplitude and proper rise and
fall times of the edges (right).
1080i60 TRI-LEVEL SYNC SIGNAL SENT THROUGH 300 m OF
BELDEN 1694A CABLE, BEFORE AND AFTER EQUALIZATION
In order to prevent the equalizer from modifying the signal the EQ potentiometer
should be turned completely counter-clockwise, setting it to the minimum.
The distributor comes from the factory with the equalizer set to the minimum.
In addition to adjustment via the equalizer, the module includes a gain control that
provides fine gain control over the full video bandwidth. The distributor comes from
the factory with the gain set to 0dB. Under normal conditions when the signal has
not been attenuated by the cable the gain does not require adjustment as the
equalizer operates at both low and high frequencies.
4.3. Module remote control and supervision
The AVD0001C01 CANNOT be remotely controlled or supervised.
