TheEMAdevicesarecascadableMPEGencoderandtransportstreammultiplexer.Theygenerateapersonaldigitalprogram“bouquet“
inDVBtransportstream(TS)format.TheoutputsignalsareprovidedviaanASITSinterfaceandaseparatelyadjustableIPinterface.
ThesignalscanbebroadcastorfedinthecableTVnetworkbyusingappropriatemodulators.
Dependingontheapplication,thedeviceshardwareispre-congured.Viauserinterfacetheoperatingparameterscanbevariedwithin
a wide range.

Uptofourinputsignalsareencodedateachdeviceandfed-intheoutputtransportstream.TheASIinterfacetransmitstheoutput
signalasaDVBtransportstreamaccordingtoISO13818-1[5]atamaximumdatarateof214Mbps.Thesignalcanbesenteithertoa
cascadedEMAortoadownstreammodulator.BycascadingEMAdevices(upto8),atransportstreamwithupto32servicescanbe
producedortheseservicescanbeaddedtoanincomingtransportstream.
TheASI inputport processesa transportstream signal at a maximum rate of 214 Mbps. If the transport stream provides enough
transmissioncapacity,theencodedA/VsignalsareembeddedviatheintegratedmultiplexeraccordingtotheDVBstandard.
Theoutputsignalcontainsallrequiredprogramtablesandassociatedservices(PAT,PMTandSDT).ANITisgeneratedbutwillnot
containanynetwork-specicinformation.AsubsequentmodulatoradjuststheadaptationoftheNIT.
1.4 Multiplexer/ Re-multiplexer/ PID lter
For processing the incoming ASI transport stream a multiplexer has been integrated into the EMA device. On condition that the
transport steam provides enough transmission capacity,oradditionaltransportvolumeisachievablebyraisingthetransportstream
bitrate,newservicesand/orprogramcomponentscanbeadded.
Dependingonthecongurationofthe4inputinterfaces,theanalogueordigitalA/Vsignals(SDI)willbeconvertedintoDVBdataand
pooledtoastandardDVBsignaloraddedtotheDVBtransportstreambeingforwarded.
Theparametersnecessaryfortheinputinterfacesandthetransportstreamparametershavebeenpre-setatthefactory(»section 3.2).
Seesection3.3.4fordetailsofhowEMAcascadesystemsusingmultipledevicesarebroughtintouseandhowthetransportstream
canbemanipulatedfromtheHTMLuserinterface.

3. Operating instructions
3.1 Commissioning of the EMA (EASY, without conguration)
Doallinstallingandconnectionworkwithoutmainsvoltage.It‘sabsolutelynecessarythatyoufollowthesafetynotes(»section 1.1).
Connecttheinputsforvideo,audio,HDMIandASIsignalsattheappropriateconnectionpointsontherearofthedevicewithsuitable
cables.
Assoonasallwiringisdone,thepowersupplycanbeconnectedandthedeviceswitchedon.TheoperatingstatusisshownbyLED‘s
on the front panel.
Warning:
Ondeliveryidenticalnetworkparametersforalldevicesarepreset.Thesettingandcongurationofmultipledeviceswithinanetwork
mustbedonestep by step (»section 3.3.1).
3.2 Basic settings on delivery (Factory settings)
WhendeliveredEMAdevicesareoptimalpreconguredaccordingtothehardwareassemblyandthemainusecase.AttheASIoutput
portatransportstreamisproducedwithabitrateof38Mbpsintowhichthedataoftheinputsignalswillbeincluded.The“ASIMain
Input” is not activated.
Thedeliverystatuscanalwaysbemadeby“Factorysetting“(seesection3.4.5).Allprogramdetailsandtransportstreaminformation
areneutralandcanbeadaptedtomatchtherequirementsofthecablenetworkoperator.
Tochangetheconguration,theHTMLuserinterfaceisprovidedviatheEthernetinterface(seesection3.3).Theadjustmentsofthe

IfitisnecessarytochangethebasiccongurationortocreateacascadeofmorethanoneEMAdevicetocreateaDVBtransportstream
(seeFig.20),theparticularHTMLuserinterfacemustbecalleduponacomputerconnectedtothedevice(s).Allthesettingscanbe
madeviaInternetbrowser.Howtheuserinterfaceworksisalmostself-explanatory.Anyspecialfeaturesofusewillbeexplainedinthe
following chapters.
3.3.1 Network connection to the computer
System requirements:
• PC/laptopwithanEthernetinterface10/100Mbps
• Internetbrowser(suchasWindowsInternetExplorer,MozillaFirefoxorsimilar)
Making the connections:
TheEMAdevicehastobeconnectedtoPCnetworkusinganEthernetcable.Useacrossed-linkcableforadirectconnectiontoaPC.
TheIPaddressoftheEMAis192.168.2.86 on delivery.
InordertoaccessthewebinterfaceoftheEMAdevicefromaPC,thePChastobeinthesamesubnet(192.168.2.XXX;subnetmask
255.255.255.0),whereXXXisnotusedbyanyotherdeviceinthissubnet.IfmultipleEMAdevicesareconnectedtothesamenetwork
eachdevicemustbesettoitsownuniqueIPaddresstoavoidaddressconicts.
Afterthesesettings,theIPaddressofthePChastobeadjustedtomatchthenetwork.Nowthedevicescanbeaccessedviabrowser
with the new IP address.
Connection setup:
WhentheIPaddressforthedevicehasbeenenteredintotheaddresseldofthebrowser,aconnectionwillbemadetotherelevant
deviceandtheappropriatelog-inwindowwillbedisplayed:
