tools and materials must be available prior to installation.
Verify all listed parts are included in kit. If parts are

• Mechanical experience is required to install kit.
• Dependingon installer’s knowledge and skill,
installation can take from 3 to 6 hours.

A qualified engineer must connect ice maker in
accordance with these installation instructions. A qualified
engineermustfollowlocalelectrical and plumbing
connectionregulations.
Safety Instructions

Toavoidelectricalshockwhich can cause severe

refrigeratorbeforeinstallingkit.Afterinstallingkit,
connectpower.
CAUTION
!
Toavoid propertydamage,observe thefollowing:
• Confirmwaterpressuretowater valve is at least 138
Kilopascals.
• Start nuts by hand to avoid cross threading. Finish
tighteningnutsusinganadjustablewrench.Donot
overtighten.
• Checkcarefullyforwaterleakspriorto returning
refrigeratortonormallocation and 24 hoursafter
connection.
Materials Required
Important
• Before connecting ice maker, contact a plumber to
connectcopper tubing to household plumbing in
compliance with local codes and ordinances.
•Do not use self-piercing valve. Amana Appliances is
notresponsibleforpropertydamageduetoimproper
installationor water connection.

*Lengthofcoppertubingmustreachfrom water supply
connectionplusanadditional2meterfor service loop
behindrefrigerator. Tubingshould be softinsteadofrigid
andendsshouldbefree of burrs.

Procedure
7. Connectwiresto water valve.Placewater valve on
mounting bracket. Insert screws into top 2 holes in
watervalvecover plate andlower2holes in mounting
bracket. Tighten screws with a 6.35 mm (1/4") hex nut
driver.
8. Replacebackcover by placingcoveron refrigerator
cabinet. Insert and tighten screws with a 6 mm hex
nutdriver.Confirmelbowonwater valveprotrudes
throughholeinbackcover. Confirm plastic tubing is
routedthroughcutoutsectionontopofbackcover.

9. Removetapefromend of copper tubing. Put endof
copper tubing into sink or bucket. Slightly turn on
watersupplytorefrigerator. Waterwill be under
considerablepressure.Allowwater to run through
coppertubing for 1 minute to flush out copper tubing.
Turnoffwater supply to refrigeratorwhenflushingis
complete.
10. Removeplasticcapfrom water valveinletelbow.
Place brass nut and brass sleeve on copper tubing.
Insertcoppertubing into water valveinletelbow. Hand
tightenbrassnutoncoppertubingtowatervalveinlet
elbow. Then tightenwatervalveinlet elbow with an
adjustablewrench.Confirmcoppertubing is secure
bypullingoncoppertubing.
11. Turnonwatersupplytorefrigeratorand check for
leaks.Turnoffwatersupply to refrigerator and correct
any leaks. Repeat this process until no leaks are
found, then completely turn on water supply to
refrigerator.

!
To avoid property damage, protectsoftvinylorother
flooringwithcardboard, rugs, orotherprotective
materialwhen movingrefrigerator.
2. Moverefrigeratoraway fromwall.
3. Seal open end of copper tubing with masking tape to
keep inside of tubing clean. Route copper tubing up to
refrigeratorthroughfloor orinteriorwall behind
refrigeratorproviding10 mmholesas required.Copper
tubingroutemustbe above 1.6°C to prevent waterline
fromfreezing.
4. Removebackcoverby removing screws witha6.35
mm(1/4")hexnut driver.Exposewater valve mounting
bracketandcover plate.

witha6mm hex nut driver. Discard water valvecover
plate.Savescrews.Usescrewstoinstallwatervalve.
6. Removewiresbypushingwire tie through hole in
watervalvecoverplatewithpliers.Donotcutwiretie
nearwires.

12. Remove ice service rack by lifting rack off plastic
washersthenpullingout.Removescrewswitha6.35
mm (1/4") hex nut driver. Insert button plugs into screw
holes.

13. Locateelectricalandwaterconnection cover plate on
upperleftrear wall offreezer. Remove electricaland
waterconnectioncoverplate by removing screwwith
a 6.35 mm (1/4") hex nut driver. Discard electrical and
waterconnectioncoverplate and screw.
14. Remove freezer shelf by pulling out. A sharp tug may
benecessary. Remove basket by lifting and pulling
out.
15. Cut out sealing tape from water inlet tube hole located
on back wall, with a knife.

16. Removewatertubeinlet hole plug on rearof
refrigeratorcabinetwithascrewdriver,bladecovered
with masking tape.

17. Temporarilycoverendof water fill tubeelbowwith
maskingtapetoprevent insulation beads from
enteringwaterfilltubeelbow. Push water filltube
elbowthrough“U”- shaped holeonback of refrigerator
cabinet.Pull water fill tube elbow through hole in
freezer. Remove masking tape from end of water
fill tube elbow.
18. Push gently on water fill tube elbow while twisting
elbow slightly until elbow is firmly seated inside “U”-
shapedhole.

19. Removeicemakerfromshippingcarton.Icemaker is
shipped with arm down. This is correct for ice
production.Donotforcearmdownorup.

20. Slide stainless steel clip over wall of ice maker water
cup.

21. Remove3buttonplugsfrom left freezer wall with a
knifecoveredwithmaskingtape. Discard plugs.
22. Start 15 mm sheet metal screw in top front hole on
leftwallwitha6.35mm(1/4") hex nut driver.Leave
head out approximately 9 mm.
23. Hold ice maker in position. Ice maker can only be
installed one way. Do not drill additional holes. Insert
wireharnessplugintoreceptacleonrearwalluntil
locking fingers on top and bottom of plug snaps into
place.Slideicemakerhangeroversheetmetal
screw. Ease ice maker water cup toward end of water
filltubeelbow.

Water fill tube fits under stainless steel clip. Water
fill tube must not be kinked. Water fill tube should
extend approximately 9 mm into ice maker water cup
and must be secured under stainless steel clip.

24. Insert and tightenremaining15mmsheet metal
screws with a 1/4" (6.35 mm) hex nut driver.
25. Replace freezer shelf by sliding in until back locks in
place. Replace wire basket by sliding in. Position ice
storagebucketonwiresectionoffreezer shelf under
ice maker. Confirm bucket is in the proper position.
26. Checkforleaksathouseholdwaterconnectionand
watervalve.Correct any leaks.
27. Createaminimumof2meterserviceloop using
extreme care to avoid kinks. Secure copper tubing
to refrigerator cabinet using “P” clamp.

Operating Instructions Before Calling For Service
Giveicemaker1 overnight period to make icebefore
assuming a difficulty exists.
If ice maker is not producing ice
• Confirm ice maker arm is down. Ice bucket and slide
out shelf must be in proper position for ice maker to
produceice.
• Confirmhouseholdwatersupplyisreachingwater
valve.
• Confirm ice maker wiring harness is completely
inserted into receptacle.
• Check for kinks in copper or plastic tubing. Remove
kinks or replace tubing.
• Checkelectrical connections to water valve coil and
connectorblockonrefrigerator cabinet.
• Confirmfreezerisoperatingat proper temperature.
If ice maker is not producing enough ice
• Ice maker produces 7 to 9 harvests of ice in a 24-hour
periodunderidealconditions.
• Seeabovesection.
Ificemakermakesunfamiliarsounds.
• Thesemaybenormal.Referto“NormalOperating
Sounds”sectioninOwner's Manual.
• Confirm ice bucket is in place and ice maker arm is
down.

• Afterfreezersectionreaches normal temperature, ice
makerfills with water and begins operating. Allow 24-
48hours after installation before first harvest of ice. Ice
maker produces 7 to 9 harvests of ice in a 24-hour
periodunderidealconditions.
• After ice is formed, ice maker drops ice cubes into ice
storage bucket. During ice production, ice maker arm
raises and lowers. When ice storage bucket is full, ice
maker arm turns ice maker off. Discard first 3 harvests
ofice after initially connecting refrigerator to household
watersupplyandafterextendedperiodsofnon-use.
• Stop ice production by lifting ice maker arm. A definite
click is heard when proper position is reached. Ice
maker arm will remain in that position until pushed
down.
CAUTION
!
To avoid damage toicemaker,observethefollowing:
• Do not force ice maker arm down or up.
• Do not place or store anything on ice maker or in ice
storagebucket.
