General Information
This manual provides complete instructions and sug-
gestions for handling, installing and servicing Amana
electric convection ranges listed.
The directions, information and warnings in this
manual are developed from experience with, and care-
ful testing, of the product. If the unit is installed accord-
ing to the manual, it will operate properly and will re-
quire minimal servicing. A unit in proper operating or-
der ensures the customer all the benefits available
from the range.
This manual contains all the information needed by
authorized Amana service technicians to install and
service Amana electric convection ranges. Amana
maintainsa toll-freetechnicalsupport line toanswer
questionsfrom authorizedservice technicians.The
number is 1-800-AMANA99.
Ordering Replacement Parts
A unit’s model and manufacturing numbers are recorded
on its rating label. The rating label is located on the front
frame. Before ordering parts, write down the correct
model, manufacturing, and serial numbers from the
rating label. This avoids incorrect shipments and delays.
Please refer to the parts catalog when ordering replace-
ment parts.

Introduction
Safety Precautions
General
1. Therangemustbeinstalledand properly grounded
by a qualified installer or service technician.
2. Never use the range for heating a room.
3. Donot storeitems onthe cooktop.Items storedon
the cooktop can become hot and melt or ignite.
4. Wear proper apparel. Loose-fitting garments
shouldneverbe wornwhileusingthe range.
5. Gasoline,orotherflammablevapors orliquidsand
combustiblematerialsshouldnotbestorednear
the range. They may ignite, causing a fire.
6. Useonlydrypotholders.Using damppotholderson
hot surfaces may result in steam burns. Do not let
apotholdertouch anelement.Donot useatowel
or a bulky cloth as a potholder.
7. Donot leavechildrenunattended inanarea where
the range is in use.
8. Never sit, stand or lean on any part of the range.
SurfaceCooking
1. Useutensilswithflatbottomslargeenoughtocover
theelement.Undersizedutensilsexposetheele-
mentto directcontact withclothing.
2. Turnutensilhandlesinward.Theymustnotextend
overadjacentsurfaceelements.
3. Do not touch areas near surface elements during
or immediately after use. These areas can become
hot enough to cause burns.
4. Donot storeitems ofinterest tochildren abovethe
range.
5. Only certain types of glass, glass/ceramic, ce-
ramic, earthenware, or other glazed utensils are
suitableforcooktopuse.Unsuitableutensilsmay
breakdueto suddentemperaturechanges.
6. Neverleavesurfaceelementsunattendedathigh
heatsettings.Boilovers cancause smokingand
may ignite.
7. Cleanthecooktop withcaution.Somecleaners
can produce noxious fumes if used on hot sur-
faces.
8. Do not place aluminum foil or foods packaged in
aluminumfoildirectlyon anelement.
Oven
1. Use care when opening the oven door. Let hot air
or steam escape before removing or replacing
food.
2. Donot heatunopened foodcontainers inthe oven.
Buildup of pressure may cause a container to
burst.
3. Keeptheovenventductsunobstructed.
4. Place oven racks in desired location while oven is
cool. If a rack must be moved while the oven is
hot, use a dry potholder.
5. Donotusealuminumfoiltolinetheovenbottom.
Aluminum foil can cause a fire and will seriously
affect baking results.
6. Do not touch the interior surfaces of the oven dur-
ing or immediately after use. Do not let clothing or
otherflammablematerialscontact bakeor broilel-
ements. Although these surfaces may be dark in
color, they can still be hot enough to burn.
7. Otheroven areascan becomehotenough tocause
burns,such as ventopenings,window, ovendoor
andoven racks.
8. Do not use oven cavities for storage space.
9. Donotdrape towelsorothermaterials on theoven
doorhandle. Theseitemsmatcontactanelement
or become too hot and ignite.
10. Do not use aluminum foil to cover the broiler grid.
The foil can trap grease on top of the grid, causing
it to ignite.
11. Donotattempttocleanthegasketlocatedonthe
inside of the oven door. Cleaning the gasket may
cause damage. This gasket is required to seal the
oven.
Safety Procedures
Due to the nature of cooking, fires can occur as a re-
sultof overcookingorexcessive grease.Usethe fol-
lowing procedures to extinguish a fire in the unlikely
event one occurs:
SurfaceElementFires
1. Do not turn on the vent fan or hood. The fan can
spreadtheflames.
2. If it is safe to do so, turn the surface element to
OFF. Turn off main electrical supply.
3. Smotherthe firewithnonflammable lid orusea
Class “ABC” or “BC” fire extinguisher. Do not use
water on a grease fire.
Ovenfires
1. Do not open oven door.
2. TurnallcontrolstoOFF.
3. As an added precaution turn off the electricity at
the main circuit breaker or fuse box.
4. Allow the food or grease to burn itself out in the
oven.
If smoke or fire persist, call the local fire depart-
ment.

Safety Instructions
When using electrical appliances, basic
safety precautions should be followed,
including the following:
To reduce the risk of burns, electric shock, fire, or
injury to persons:
1. Read all instructions before using the appliance.
2. Install or locate the appliance only in accordance
with the provided installation instructions.
3. Some products such as whole eggs and sealed
containers - for example, closed glass jars - may
explode and should not be heated in this oven.
4. Use this appliance only for its intended use as
described in this manual.
5. Do not cover or block any openings on the
appliance.
6. Do not use outdoors.
7. See door surface cleaning instructions in general
information section.
8. Do not operate this appliance if it is not working
properly, or if it has been damaged or dropped.
9. If materials inside the oven should ignite, keep oven
door closed and turn oven off or shut off power at
the fuse or circuit breaker panel.
10. Do not drape towels or any materials on oven door
handles. These items could ignite and you could
get burned.
•Proper installation - Be sure the appliance is
properly installed and grounded by a qualified
electrician.
•User Servicing - Do not repair or replace any part of
the appliance unless specifically recommended in the
Use and Care Manual. All other servicing should be
referred to a qualified technician.
•Heating the room - Never use the appliance for
warming or heating the room.
•Unattended appliance - Children should not be left
alone or unattended in an area where appliance is in
use. They should never be allowed to sit or stand on
any on any part of the appliance.
•Odor may occur - During the first few times the self-
cleaning feature is used, there may be some odor
and smoking from the "curing" of the binder in the
high-density insulation used in the range. When the
insulation is thoroughly cured, this odor will
disappear. During subsequent self-cleaning cycles
you may sense an odor characteristic of high
temperatures with electric heat. Keep the kitchen
well ventilated during the self-cleaning cycle.
•Do not touch heating elements - Heating elements
may be hot even though they are dark in color.
Never let clothing, potholders or other flammable
materials come into contact with the heating
elements.
•Wear proper apparel - Loose fitting or hanging
garments should never be worn while using the
appliance.
•Use only dry potholders - Moist or damp
potholders on hot surfaces may result in burns from
steam. Donot letpotholder touchheatingelements.
Do not use a towel or other bulky cloth.
•Storage in or on appliance - Flammable material
should not be stored in an oven or near surface
units.
•Do not use water on grease fires - Smother fire or
flame or use dry chemical or foam type extinguisher.
Do not store items of interest in cabinets above or
aside of the range. This will protect your family
from accidents while the range is hot.
Grounding Instructions
This appliance must be connected to a grounded,
metallic, permanent wiring system, or an equipment
grounding conductor should be run with the circuit
conductors and connected to the equipment grounding
terminal or lead on the appliance.

Installation Instructions
When unpacking and moving the range into position take care not to slide it
across the floor. Improper handling of the range can cause damage to the
floor. Two people are required to move the range. Make sure the power is off
at the main circuit breaker before connecting wiring.
Installation Spacing Permissible
This range may be installed flush against the left and right
base cabinets and rear vertical wall. The range may also
be installed flush against the left and/or right vertical wall
extending above the 36 inch standard countertop height.
A minimum clearance to vertical wall on left or right side
is not needed. See the rating plate for KW rating. Fuse
rating should be in accordance with the National
Electrical Code, Canadian Electric Code (where
applicable), local codes and ordinances.
The range should be installed with a minimum of a
30 1/8" inch clearance between the cooking surface
and the bottom of an unprotected wood or metal
cabinet.
Power Connection
Theline voltagemustnot exceedtherated voltage
(102 V - 132 V). Line voltage less than rated voltage will
result in slow heating. The wiring system conforms to the
Underwriters Laboratories Inc., standards and the
National Electrical Code or the Canadian Association
Standard, and Canadian Electric Code (where
applicable). Be sure that the installation conforms to all
local, municipal and state building codes, as well as NEC,
CEC (where applicable), and local utility regulations.
Range must be connected only to a supply circuit as
specified on the rating plate and wiring diagram. The
junction box must be mounted on the floor or wall. See
diagrambelow forexact spacingallowed.
Making the Electrical Connection
The connection block is located at the bottom rear of the
range and is accessible after removing the rear cover
panel. Directly below the connection block is a hole for
accommodating service cord, not supplied with the
range. Remove the rear cover by removing the fastener,
which holds the cover in place.
Wiring
The electrical supply wiring must be connected to the
range connector block by routing the supply wiring
through the access hole directly below the range
connector block.
The neutral ground wire of the supply circuit must be
connected to the center (nickel plated) terminal on the
block. The power leads must be connected to the outside
brass terminals. The range has been grounded at the
factory to the center (nickel plated) terminal of the
terminal block in accordance with the National Electrical
Code (section 2560) as illustrated in the following figures.
When a separate ground is required by local code,
disconnect the grounding strap from the terminal block.
Then in order to ground the frame, a grounding lead must
be connected to the range frame using only the
grounding screw removed earlier from the ground strap.

at the main circuit breaker before connecting wiring.
Only a power supply cord suitable for use with
ranges may be used. For installation in a mobile
home or area where local codes do not permit
grounding through the neutral, a 4-wire cord rated
250 V, 40 amp must be used.
Connector block is approved for copper wire
connection only, NOT aluminum wiring.
Aluminum Wiring
If aluminum house wiring is to be connected, the
followingprocedure issuggested.
1. Connect length of copper building wire to range
terminalblock withring terminal.
2. Splice copper wires to aluminum wiring using special
connectorsdesigned andUnderwriters Laboratories,
(CSA where applicable) recognized for joining
copperto aluminumand followingthe connector
manufacturesrecommended procedure.
3. Wire used, location and enclosure of splices, ect.,
must conform to good wiring practice and local
codes.
Installation of Three Conductor Cord
120/240 Volts Single Phase
1. Remove rearwirecover.
2. Place strain relief (winged clamp) which is supplied
in cord kit in cord access hole below terminal block.
This is done by placing wings through holes, entering
from bottom. Screw holes in clamp should be below
mounting panel. (Wings may be bent to allow both
wingsthrough hole).
3. Place cord through strain relief. Attach cord neutral
(center) or white conductor to center terminal on
terminalblock.
4. Attach black conductor to the terminal "left" of center
onthe terminalblock.
5. Attach red conductor to the terminal "right" of center
onthe terminalblock.
6. After conductors have been placed on the terminals
tighten down the hex nuts or screws, depending on
which terminal block is present. Firmly tighten to
insure proper electrical connection.
7. Place screws through strain relief and tighten.
8. Replace rear wire cover.
Installation of Conductor Cords
The cord must be U.L., (CSA where applicable) Listed
andmeet NECandMobile HomeManufactures
Association Standards. The cord must be rated at 250 V,
40 amp, must be equipped with a plug configuration in
accordance with NEMA and all ending with closed loop
(ring) terminals at the range.
(Three conductor cord plug NEMA 10-50P).
(Four conductor cord plug NEMA 14-50P).

at the main circuit breaker before connecting wiring.
All electrical connections should be inspected
before power is turned on, to make
certain that all are tight.
7. Replace rear wire cover.
Leveling the Range
The range must be level at its final location. Leveling the
range is very important to obtain good baking and
cookingresults.
Be sure that after the range is level the anti-tip
bracket has been engaged.
Service Notes
For service replacement, use 16 gage 150°C thermal
insulatedwire exceptas individuallynotedon leadson
wiring diagram.
Noadjustment shouldbe necessarytothe topswitches,
ovenheat control,or otherelectrical componentsunless
they have been damaged in transit.
No adjustment should be necessary to the range once it
has been installed. Should any part of the range be
inoperable, check the Use and Care manual for proper
operatinginstructions.
Moving the Range
If for any reason the range is moved or relocated, the
anti-tip bracket must be moved with the range and
reengaged.
Void of Warranty
The installation, repair, or servicing by any person who is
not a qualified Amana/Caloric servicer will void the
warranty.
Installation of Four Conductor Cord
120/240 Volts Single Phase
1. Remove rearwirecover.
2. Place strain relief (winged clamp) which is supplied
in cord kit in cord access hole below terminal block.
This is done by placing wings through holes, entering
from bottom. Screw holes in clamp should be below
mounting panel. (Wings may be bent to allow both
wingsthrough hole).
3. Remove thelinkattached tothe centerterminalon the
terminal block. The link is not needed for this
installation. Alsoremove thegreen groundscrew
and retain for further use in step 7.
4. Place cord through strain relief. Attach cord neutral
(center) or white conductor to center terminal on
terminalblock.
5. Attach black conductor to the terminal "left" of center
onthe terminalblock.
6. Attach red conductor to the terminal "right" of center
onthe terminalblock.
7. Attach green conductor to the back of the range
using the green ground screw previously removed in
step 3.
8. After conductors have been placed on the terminals
tighten down the hex nuts or screws, depending on
which terminal block is present. Firmly tighten to
insure proper electrical connection.
9. Place screws through strain relief and tighten.
10. Replace rear wire cover.
Changing from a 3-Conductor Cord or Cable
Assembly to a 4-Conductor Cord or Cable
Assembly
1. Remove rearwirecover.
2. Remove bottom strain relief screw and retain for
further use.
3. Remove screw/hexnutsfrom terminalblockand

cord from the unit by pulling in a downward motion so
that the cord is removed from the strain relief.

6. To install the 4-conductor cord or cable, please follow
steps 4 through 9 of the Installation Instruction for the

Installation Instructions
When unpacking and moving the range into position take care not to slide it
across the floor. Improper handling of the range can cause damage to the
floor. Two people are required to move the range. Make sure the power is off
at the main circuit breaker before connecting wiring.
Anti-Tip Bracket Installation

PANEL LIGHT - Used to turn on light in range control
panel.
OVEN LIGHT - Used to turn on light inside oven.
CLOCK - Used to set time of day or change display to
Time of Day.
MINUTE TIMER - Used to time any kitchen function or
cancel timer.
COOK TIME - Used to set timed bake or view remaining
cookingtime.
STOP TIME - Used to set delay bake and self-clean.
BAKE - Used to select bake.
BROIL - Used to select broil.
CONV BAKE - Used to select convection bake.

Special Oven Control Functions
Preheat Signal - After setting the oven to bake and
selecting a temperature, the oven will preheat. When the
oven reaches the set temperature, a 1 second signal will
sound.
End of Cycle Signal - When a timed cooking cycle is
completed, three long signals will sound. The end of
cycle signal will continue to sound until Oven Cancel is
touched.
Child Lockout - This is a safety feature that can be
used to prevent children from accidentally programming
the oven. It disables the electronic oven control.
Touch and hold Bake and Cook Time for 10 seconds.
OFF will display where the temperature normally
appears.
To reactivate the control, touch and hold Bake and Cook
Time for 10 seconds. Child lockout features must be
reset after a power failure.
12 Hour Automatic Cancel - This is a safety feature
that prevents the oven from continuing to operate if it has
been left on for over 12 hours. If a cooking function
continues longer than 12 hours without any options on
the oven control being touched, this feature turns the
oven off. Any time an option is touched, the 12 hour
automatic cancel is reset.

Setting the Clock

time appears in display. The timer can be set from 1
second to 11 hours and 50 minutes.
Canceling the Minute Timer
Touch MINUTE TIMER for 5 seconds.
When canceling the minute timer do not touch
OVEN CANCEL. Touching OVEN CANCEL will
cancel cooking function.

Smoke and odor are normal when using the oven
the first few times. To eliminate the subsequent
smoking and odor, set the oven to bake at 350°F
for approximately 2 hours. Any discoloration or
residue collected around the vent area can be
cleaned with a nonabrasive cleaner such as Soft
Scrub® and a dampened cloth.
Self-Cleaning
1. Remove oven racks and all utensils from oven.
2. Touch CLEAN.
3. Touch apropriate slew pad until the desired cleaning
time is displayed. Clean can be set from 2 to 4
hours.
4. The oven door will automatically lock and cleaning
cycle will begin within 5 seconds.
Canceling Self-Cleaning Cycle
1. Touch OVEN CANCEL.
2. When the oven has cooled to a safe temperature,
the door will automatically unlock and can be
opened.

Operating the Single Radiant/Coil Surface
Elements
Push in and turn the single element control knob to the
desired setting. The element will cycle on and off to
maintain the desired heat setting. When finished using
turn all controls to "OFF" position.
Operating the Dual Radiant Surface Element
Thedouble linesbetweensettings on thedualelement
control knob indicate both the inner and outer elements
are being used. The single lines indicate that the inner
element is being used. To operate both the inner and
outer element, push in and turn the control knob to the
double line settings. To operate only the inner element,
push in and turn the control knob to the single line
settings. The element will cycle on and off to maintain the
desired heat setting. When finshed using turn all controls
to"OFF" position.
Cooking Guide for Single Radiant/Coil Element
"LO" should be used for food that is prepared at less
thanboiling temperatures.
"MED LO" can be used to maintain boiling in
moderateamounts ofliquid.
"MED" should be used to maintain boiling of larger
amounts of food, low temperature frying and to
maintain correct pressure in a pressure cooker.
"MED HI" can be used to fry meat and poultry or to
maintaindeep-fat fryingtemperatures.
"HI" should be used to bring food to boiling
temperatures. When the food is boiling the

Push in and turn the control knob to the desired setting.
There is a distinct click position for all 10 settings. The
10 position switch allows a precise constant amount of
heat to radiate from the element. Therefore, the same

LO through 3. When using settings 4 through HI, the

Cooking Guide for Haloring Element
"LO through 3" should be used for food that is
prepared at less than boiling temperatures or to
simmer. When using settings LO through 3 on the
10position Haloring®knob theelementwill notbe

Hot Indicator Lights
The glass top range has four hot indicator lights one
located above each knob. The hot indicator lights will
glow red when the corresponding element is turned on.
Thelight willremain onuntil thesurface elementhas
cooled to a safe temperature.
The coil element range has surface indicator lights that
glowwhen theelement isturned onanddo notglow when
the element is turned off.
Bake
thetop andbottom elementsoperate duringbake. Bake
can be used to cook foods which are normally baked.
Theoven mustbe preheated. Pansmust bestaggered
for even browning.
Broil
The top element operates during broil. Broil can be used
to cook foods which are normally broiled. Preheating is
not required when using broil. All foods should be turned
at least once except fish, which does not need to be
turned.
Convection Bake
Theupper element,lowerelement, andfan operate
during convection bake. Convection bake should be
used for cooking casseroles and roasting meats. The
ovenshould bepreheated forbest resultswhenusing
convection bake. Pans do not need to be staggered.
Cooks approximately 25% quicker than bake.
Convection Broil
Thetop elementand fanoperatewhen usingconvection
broil. Convection broil can be used to cook foods that
are normally broiled. The oven does not require
preheating when using convection broil. Food does not
need to be turned during cooking. Cooks approximately
25% quicker than broil.
Convection
The rear element and fan operate during convection.
Convection should be used for cooking pastries, souffles,
yeast bread, cakes and cookies. The oven should be
preheated for best results when using convection. Pans
do not need to be staggered. Cooks approximately 25%
quicker than bake.

Oven Racks
the oven has five positions and three oven rackss. This
design allows the racks to be placed in the oven an equal
distanceapart.
Convection Broiling Rack
The oven includes a special broiling rack. This rack
should be placed on top of the broiler pan and grid. This
allows air to circulate around the food and cook evenly
without turning. If the convection broiling rack is not
used, foods must be turned at least once during cooking.
Oven Rack Placement
Oven racks should be positioned before the oven is
turned on.
1. Pull rack forward to the stop position.
2. Raise the front edge and pull it out of the oven.
3. Place rack in desired location.
NOTE: The curved edge of the rack must be facing up
and toward the rear of the oven to utilize the
automaticstop.
Convection Pan Placement
Baking pans and cookie sheets should not touch the side
or rear walls of the oven. If pans are placed on different
racks, they can be placed directly over each other.
Convection cooking circulates air around the oven
providing even browning on all rack positions. When
using convection, the oven can be loaded on all racks
withexcellent cookingresults.
Conventional Pan Placement

Tips For Self-Cleaning

To avoid the risk of damage to the automatic
locking system, do not try to force the oven door
open when LOCK is flashing in the display.
When Finished
When the oven has cooled to a safe temperature, LOCK
will disappear from the display and the oven door can be
opened.

Part Materials to Use General Directions
Bake and Broil Elements Do not clean the bake or broilelement . Any soil will burn off when the
element is heated. The bake element is hinged and can be lifted to
clean the oven bottom.
Broiler Pan and Grid Soap and a Nonabrasive
Plastic Scouring Pad Drain fat, cool pan and grid slightly. (Do not let soiled pan and grid stand in oven to cool.) Sprinkle with soap. Fill the pan with warm water. Let
pan and grid stand for a few minutes. Wash: scourifnecessary. Rinse
and dry. Option: The broiler pan and grid may also be cleaned in the
dish washer.
ControlKnobs Mild Soap and Water Pulloff knobs. Wash gently but do not soak. Dry and return knobs,
making sure to match flat area on the knob to the flat area on the shaft.
Inside Oven Door Soap and Water Clean the outside of the door and the window area with warm soapy
water. Do not clean the oven door gasket. The gasket should not be
moved while cleaning. Avoid getting and cleaning materials on the
gasket.
Oven Interior Surfaces Soap and Water Cool before cleaning. Frequent wiping with mild soap and water will
prolong the time between major cleanings. Be sure to rinse throughly.
Oven Racks and Storage
Drawer Soap and Water For heavy soil, clean by hand and rinse throughly. Remove the drawer and racks for ease in cleaning. Be sure the darwer is dry before
replacing it.
Outside Finsh and Backguard Soap and Water Wash allglass with cloth dampened in soapy water. Rinse and polish
with a dry cloth. If knobs are removed, do not allow water to run down
inside the surface of glass while cleaning. Touch OVEN CANCEL after
cleaning the control panel. A function may be set accidentlly whlie wiping
control panel glass.
