Chapter 2
(Using the Tech/Touch)
This chapter covers the basic system operation of the Tech/Touch. To avoid damages
caused by unsafe use, we strongly suggest that you read through Chapter 2 before
attempting to operate the Tech/Touch.
Introduction to the Touch Screen display:
A touchscreen is an input device that allows the user to operate a PC by simply touching
the display screen . Touch input is suitable for a wide variety of computer applications.
The Tech/Touch uses an innovative “palm rejection” touchscreen, which is a pressure-
aware display panel that can recognize your action on the display accurately.
What can I use to clean the touchscreen:
Any standard glass cleaner (non-ammonia based) can be used to clean the touchscreen.
Always spray the glass cleaner on the cloth or towel and then clean the touchscreen.
Volume Control:
There are two ways to control the volume of the speakers. One is by using the external
volume control slide switch on the LEFT side of the Tech/Touch and the second way is
by the software settings in windows.
Setting the external volume control slide switch:
1. Locate the external volume control slide switch on the Left side of the
Tech/Touch.
2. Sliding the switch toward the bottom most setting is the Low.
3. Sliding the switch into the middle is the Medium setting.
4. Sliding the switch the upper most position is High.
These settings are not the maximum or minimum volumes that the Tech/Touch has. The
external volume control switch will only increase or decrease the volume by 20%. The
Master Volume setting inside windows will give you the absolute maximum settings. To
set the absolute Maximum volume the external volume control switch must be set the
HIGH position and the Master Volume control must be in the highest position.
Setting the Master Volume control from windows:
1. On the Task Bar on the bottom of the screen, click on the Speaker Icon.
2. A volume control switch will appear on the screen.
3. Move the bar on the volume control up to increase the volume and down to
decrease the volume.
4. Once the proper level has been set, tap any place on the screen except for the
volume control switch.
2-1

pop up a message to warn you of the possible data loss due to insufficient
power supply. To avoid this problem, connect an external AC adapter to the
DC IN jack.
Follow the procedures described below to Power OFF the Tech/Touch.
1. Before you turn off the Tech/Touch, make sure that you have saved any data
and closed any programs running.

Battery Safety tips on the External battery:
Replacing or handling the battery incorrectly may present a risk of fire or explosion,
which could cause serious injury.
1. Only replace the external battery with the same or equivalent type of battery.
2. Do not disassemble, short-circuit, or incinerate batteries or expose them to
temperatures above +60ºC (+140ºF).
3. Do not tamper with batteries. Keep out of reach from children.
4. Do not use rusty or damaged batteries.
5. Dispose of batteries according to local regulations. Check with your local
solid waste officials for details about recycling options or for proper disposal
in your area.
Conserving Battery Power:
Efficient battery power is critical to maintain a normal operation of the Tech/Touch and a
long runtime. If the battery power is not managed well, your saved data and customized
settings may be lost. In general, a fully charged battery can operate under normal
conditions for approximately 4 hours. However, applications and peripherals in use may
also change the amount of runtime for the battery.
Follow these tips to help optimize battery life and avoid a sudden power loss:
1. Suspend system operations if the Tech/Touch will be idle for a while or
shorten the Suspend Timer’s time period.
2. Power OFF the Tech/Touch if you are not using it for a long period of time.
3. Turn off unneeded settings or remove idle peripherals to conserve power.
4. Connect an AC adapter to the DC IN whenever possible.

(Troubleshooting)
Experiencing problems with the Tech/Touch? This chapter is organized to help you find
solutions to commonly seen problems. However, if you cannot find the solutions here,
contact your local dealer for technical assistance or Advanced Multimedia Devices, inc.
at 888-353-2634.
Frequently Asked Questions:
My Tech/Touch does not start after I press the power button.
1. Check the Power LED. If the light is not ON, the battery pack probably
reached the critically low level. To solve this problem, you can use the
external AC power adapter to operate the Tech/Touch while the battery is
recharging or connect the external battery (if this option was purchased).
2. Make sure that you pressed down and hold the power button ON for more
then a second. A gentle touch of the power button will not start the
Tech/Touch.
There is nothing on the display screen.
1. If the display screen has been idle for a while, the system will automatically
enter the following power saving mode.
Display is OFF – Green LED is ON Tap on the screen or press any switch
connected to S1 and S2.
System in Standby – Green LED is flashing Press the power button for one or two
seconds to wake up the screen.
System in Hibernate – Green LED is OFF Press the power button for one or two
seconds to wake up the screen.
I cannot hear anything from the speakers.
1. Check the volume control setting. Make sure the setting is not all the down or
muted.
Why does my battery pack last for a short duration of time?
Have you connected the Tech/Touch to many idle devices? If you have idle
peripherals powered on, they will consume current from the battery and will
reduce the battery runtime.
What do I need to do if my Tech/Touch does not work at all?
You will need to do a recovery from the hard drive. To do this you must have a
keyboard connected to the Tech/Touch. Press F3 on the keyboard and follow the
instructions on the screen.
