Storage
The instrument should be stored in its packaging, in a dry sheltered area.
The maximum storage temperature is 10 °C (18 °F) higher than the maximum operating temperature.
The minimum storage temperature is 10 °C (18 °F) lower than the minimum operating temperature.
Refer to the Technical Specication for details of the operating temperature limits.
Unpacking
Check all packages for external signs of damage. Check the contents against the packing note.
Lifting Instructions
Where items are too heavy to be lifted manually, use suitably rated lifting equipment. Refer to the
Technical Specication for weights. All lifting should be carried out in accordance with local and national
regulations.
Return of Damaged Goods
IMPORTANT If any item has been damaged in transit, this should be reported to the carrier and to the
supplier immediately. Damage caused in transit is the responsibility of the carrier not the supplier.
DO NOT RETURN a damaged instrument to the sender as the carrier will not then consider a claim. Save
the packing with the damaged article for inspection by the carrier.
Return of Goods for Repair
If you need to return goods for repair please contact our Customer Service Department for details of the
correct returns procedure.
Any item returned to AMETEK Land should be adequately packaged to prevent damage during transit.
You must include a written report of the problem together with your own name and contact information,
address, telephone number, email address etc.

the design, manufacture and on-site servicing of combustion, environmental monitoring and non-contact
temperature measuring instrumentation.

National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories approvals apply in India.

1.1 General Introduction
ThispublicationgivesyoutheinformationrequiredtooperatetheAMETEKLand
IQ Series thermometer.
Itisimportanttocheckallequipmentwithwhichyouhavebeensupplied,and
readalltheliteratureprovidedwiththeAMETEKLand IQ Series thermometer
beforeusingthethermometerforthersttime.Additionally,keepallsupplied
literaturereadilyavailable,forreferencewhentheequipmentisingeneraluse.
Theequipmentmustonlybeusedandmaintainedbysuitablytrained
personnel,capableoffollowingtheproceduresandguidelinesgiveninthisUser
Guide.
1.2 About IQ Series Thermometers
TheAMETEKLandIQseriesarecompact,rugged,industrialthermometers
designedtomeettheneedsofhightemperatureprocesscontrolapplications.
IQseriesthermometersfeatureanallmetaldesignwithintegratedwater
cooling,airpurgeandscrewterminalconnectionstofacilitatesimpleandcost
eectiveoperation.Thermometersareavailablewithfourwavelengthoptions,
includingaratiopyrometer.

Notes for IQR Thermometers
• IQRratiothermometershaveaninternalheaterthatmustbewarmed
upbeforevalidtemperaturereadingscanbeproduced.Thiscantake
typically2to3minutesatroomtemperature,followedbyafurther
stabilisationtimeof2to3minutesbeforeafullyreliablereadingis
available.
• Duringthewarmingupperiod,theinstrumentwillindicate‘Obscuration’
andthetemperatureoutputiseitherheldunderrangeoroverrange,
dependingonyourchosensettingforupscale/downscaledriveunder
conditionsofsignalobscuration.
• Atambienttemperaturesof50°Corabove,theinstrumentwillproduce
avalidoutputimmediately,butwillstillrequire2to3minutessettling
time.
• Inacoldenvironment,atthelowerendoftheambientoperating
temperaturerange,thewarmuptimerequiredmaybeinexcessof10
minutesatthenominal24Vpowersupplyvoltage.Alongerperiodmay
berequiredifthepowersupplyvoltageisbelowthenominalvalue.If
yourapplicationprocessisnotcontinuous(e.g.switchedoovernight),
orifitisinacoldenvironment,itisrecommendedthatanyIQR
installationhasacontinuouspowersupply.Thisisespeciallyrelevantif
yourprocessneedstoberestartedquickly.

3.1 Thermometer configuration
3.1.1 Principal Features
AllIQmodelsincludelasersightingtodenotethecentreofthemeasurement
area.Activatingthelasercanbedoneusingeitherthepush-buttonmounted
onthetopoftheconnectionPCBorbyanexternalvoltfreecontactclosure
acrosstheLSRinandComterminalsontheconnectionPCB.Onceactivatedthe
laserwillremainilluminatedforaperiodof120seconds.
TheyalsohaveRS485digitalcommunications,signalprocessing,2xrelay
alarmsandincludePCcongurationsoftwarewhichisusedtocongureallof
theabove.SeeIQseriesWindowsCongurationSoftwareUserGuideformore
details(partnumber806230).
Fixed,color-codedspacersallowtheusertosetthefocusdistanceastheywish
toanyofthefourpre-denedavailabledistances.Note:Changingthefocus

TherearefourmethodsofactivatingthelaseralignmentutilityintheIQSeries
thermometer:
• thelaserswitchontherearfaceofthethermometer(SeeFig.4-1);
• a direct connection between pin Com and LSRin on the electrical connector
ontherearfaceofthethermometer.Thisconnectioncanbemadeviaa
user-suppliedexternalswitch;
• Thelaser‘button’intheconguratorsoftware.RefertoSection5.2;
• BysendinganappropriatemessagetothethermometeroveranRS485
digitalcommunicationslink.
Whenthelaserisactivated,itwillremainswitchedonfor2minutes(120
seconds).
Warning

Ifthelensisremovedforre-focusingthethermometer,thelaser
energyemittedisincreased.Therefore,ensurethatthelaseris

ThelocationofthelensoftheIQthermometercanbemanuallycongured
withinthethermometerhousing.This
allowsselectionoffocallengthtosuitthediverserangeofpossibleIQ
thermometerapplications.Thefollowinginformation
detailsthelensandspacercongurationmethod:
Itishighlyrecommendedthatthefollowingprocedureiscarriedoutinaclean
anddryenvironment,eliminatingthe
chanceofthermometercontamination.
1. Unscrew,removeandretainthe4xM2.5retainingscrews(1)fromthe
thermometerwindowholder(2).
2. Removethewindowholderwithsapphirewindow(3)andenvironmentalseal
(4).
3. Removethethreecolouredspacers;red(5),blue(6),yellow(7)andthe
blacklenshousingwithlens(8).Ensurethatthelensisnotmarkedduring
this procedure.
4. Congurethethermometerlensandspacerstomatchtheapplication(see
‘ThermometerSighting’).
5. Placethespacersandlensintothehousingintherelevantorder,ensuring
thattheblacklenshousingisplacedwiththemarkerlinefacingtowardsthe
window.
6. Checkthattheenvironmentalsealisintactandrettothethermometer
housing.
7. Ensurethatthesapphirewindowiscleanandsmearfree.Placethewindow
housingwithsapphirewindowandpositioninthethermometerwindow
recess,ensuringthatthesealisnottrappedanywhere.
8. Retandtightenthe4xwindowhousingretainingscrews.
9. Ensurethatthesapphirewindowiscleanandsmearfree

Note
The 1 to 1 (Address 0) mode must notbeusedifmorethanoneIQ
thermometerisconnectedtotheRS485port.
The 1 to 1modeenablescommunicationwiththethermometer,regardlessof
the unreasonable thermometer address.
WheremultiplethermometersaretobeconnectedtoasharedRS485bus,the
instrumentsshouldrstbeconguredseparatelyandgivenauniqueaddress,
sothateachthermometeronthesharedbuswillhaveaseparateaddress.
5.2 IQ Series Configurator Software
Note
The IQ SeriesConguratorSoftwareisprovidedfreeofcharge.This
enableslow-costcongurationofIQSeriesthermometersusinganRS485
physicalconnection.
AMETEKLandrecommendstheuseofUSBtoRS485ConnectionKit(Part
Nº806370)forcomputerswithoutanRS485port.
TheseinstructionsdetailhowtoinstallandusetheIQSeriesCongurator
Software.ThisallowsanIQSeriesthermometertobeconguredfromany
laptoporPChavinganRS485connection.
1) InserttheIQseriesCDintothedriveonyourcomputer.
2) Ifthesoftwaredoesnotrunautomatically,opentheMy Computer
utilityonyourPCanddouble-clickontheSetup.exelelistedintheCD
contents.
3) FollowandconrmtheWizardpromptstoinstallthesoftware.AnIQ
SeriesiconisautomaticallyplacedontheDesktopwheninstallationis
successful.
4) Double-clicktheIQ SeriesiconontheDesktoptostarttheCongurator
software.TheHomepageisdisplayedbydefault.
Note
If‘LiveData’isnotdisplayed(greyedout),checkthatthelaptop/PC
commsandthethermometercommsaresynchronised.Alsocheckthatthe
thermometerisconnectedcorrectly.
If‘LiveData’is‘greyedout’;
1) SelecttheComms menu option.
2) FromtheCommsdrop-downmenu,setthefollowing:
• Serial Port-serialportconnectinglaptop/PCandthermometer,default
set to 1
• Baud Rate-datatransferratebetweenthermometerandlaptop/PC.
Ensure that this is set to 57600(default).
• Address-theconguratoraddress(1to254),defaultsetto1
• 1 to 1 (Address 0)-usedwhenonlyoneIQSeriesthermometeris
connectedtotheRS485port

Onceinstalledonthesharedbus,communicationwithaparticularthermometer
isachievedbysettingtheconguratoraddresstomatchthatofthe
thermometer.
Whenallthe‘485Settings’aresynchronisedbetweenlaptop/PCand
thermometer,thedynamic‘LiveData’isthendisplayed.Ifthisdoesnot
happen,checkthatthethermometerconnectionsarecorrect,asshownin
Fig.5-1.
