4. TAM ON/OFF
Press to turn on the answering machine.

Press to play the message.
Press again to stop the message playback.
6. SKIP FORWARD
Press to skip the current message and play the next message.

Press once to delete the message during playback.
Press and hold to delete all the messages.
Note: New voice messages will not be deleted.

Press to repeat playing the current message from the beginning.
Press twice to skip backward to the previous message.
9. VOLUME DOWN
Decrease (+) speaker volume during message playback.

Steadily on while the handset is in use, or base is in conversation mode.

Steadily on when the handset is in range of the base.
Flashes when out of range of the base or not registered to the base.

Flashes when there is an incoming call.
Indicates that handsfree is being used.

Indicate when the telephone answering machine (TAM) is turned on.
Flash when new TAM messages are received.
Steadily on when an alarm is set.
Flashes when the alarm time set before reaches.
Indicates when there are received new Voice Message Waiting (VMWI)
not yet read.

Flashes when low battery power level is detected.
On indicates it’s a new call which has not been read in call log and * will
be shown in the end of call number or name. After read, * will disappear.
Flashes when the call list is being accessed.
On indicates audio boost is on (earpiece of handset will be louder).
Flashes when phonebook is being accessed.
Flashes when redial list is being accessed.
Hearing Aid Compatibility:
• Special feature which helps to eliminate background noise and interference
when you use this telephone with a hearing aid.
2. PRECAUTIONS
The signal quality will depend on the location and environment of the base
and handset.
Position your BigTel 1580 / 1582 / 1583 away from sources of excessive heat
(radiators, direct sunlight, etc.) and protect it from vibrations and dust. Never
allow your telephone to come into contact with water or other liquids, or with
aerosols. To reduce the risk of interference and optimize reception, take
particular care not to install the base in the immediate vicinity of windows, large
metal objects, reinforced concrete, televisions, music centres, halogen lamps
or heating devices, uorescent lighting, burglar alarms, microwave ovens,
computers, etc.
This telephone requires an electrical power supply in order to function.
To clean your BigTel 1580 / 1582 / 1583 use an antistatic cloth lightly moistened
with water.

3. INSTALLING YOUR PHONE
3.1. Connecting the Base Station
1. Plug one end of the telephone line cord into the telephone jack on base
bottom.
2. Plug the small end of power adapter into a power jack on base bottom.
3. Plug the large end of power adapter into a wall power outlet.
4. Plug the other end of the telephone line cord in to the telephone jack
ormicro-lter.
5. Always use the cables provided in the box.
Ifyouhavebroadbandservice,amicro-lter(notincluded)isrequired.
3.2. Installing and Charging the Batteries
1. Slide down to open the battery compartment cover.
2. Place the 2 batteries as indicated. Pay extra attention to direction of
Respect polarity.
3. Slide the battery compartment cover back.
4. Put the handset on the base and charge for 8 hours before using the
handsetforthersttime.Thehandsetwillgiveabeepwhenitisproperly
placed on the base or charger.
Notes:
1. Use only NiMH rechargeable batteries.
2. If the handset will not be used for a long time, disconnect and remove the batteries
to prevent possible leakage.

3.3. Connecting the Charger(s) (for Duo/Trio models)
Plug the power adapter into a 230Vac, 50Hz mains socket.
After rst time power up (base unit is connected to AC mains), welcome
mode (country) will appear on the screen:

4. USING YOUR PHONE
4.1. Make a Call
4.1.1. Preparatory Dialing
Enter the phone number and press to dial the number. Press to clear
the entry.
4.1.2. Direct Dialing
Press to take the line and enter the phone number.
4.1.3. Dial from Direct Memory Keys
Inidleorohookmode,
Press M1, M2 or M3 to dial the stored number.
Press and hold / / to dial the direct memory number. You have to
storenumbertotherelatedkeyrst.Seesection8.3forreference.
4.1.4. Call from the Redial List
Press and hold to access the redial list and press / to select the
desired redial number.
Press to dial out to the selected redial number.
4.1.5. Adjust Earpiece and Handsfree Volume
There are 5 levels (Volume 1 to Volume 5) to choose from for each of earpiece
and handsfree volume.
During a call:
Press / to select volume 1-5. The current setting is shown. When you
end the call, the setting will remain at the last selected level.
The current volume is displayed on the screen.
When you end the call, the new volume setting sound remains valid for
subsequent calls.
For the sound level of the handset, if this is not loud enough, press , the audio
boostwillbeactivated(+15dB).Toturnoaudioboost,pressagainthekey .

5. PRIVATE PHONEBOOK
Your phone can store up to 100 private phonebook entries with names and
numbers. Each phonebook entry can have a maximum of 24 digits for the
phone number and 12 characters for the name.
Youcanalsoselectdierentringtonesforyourphonebookentries.Phonebook
entries are stored alphabetically by name.
5.1. Add a New Phonebook Entry
In idle:
1. Press to access the phonebook. OR
Press and / to select Phonebook main menu item and then
press to access the phonebook.
2. Press to select Add New.
3. Press to enter the name.
4. Press to enter the number.
5. Press and / to select the desired ringtone for your phonebook entry.
6. Press toconrmthemelody.
7. Press / toselectVIPXorVIP√.
8. Press toconrmtosaveitasnormalcontactlist(VIPX)orsaveit
inVIPlist(VIP√).
Note: ! appears in the end of name of VIP entry.
5.2. Call from the Phonebook
In idle:
1. Press to access the phonebook. OR
Press and / to select Phonebook main menu item and then
press to access the phonebook.
2. Press to dial out to the selected phonebook entry. Phonebook is
stored in base unit which is shared with duo, trio handsets.
6. CALLER DISPLAY (NETWORK DEPENDENT)*
Thisfeature*isavailableifyouhavesubscribedtheCallerLineIdentication
service with your telephone service provider. Your phone can store up to 50
received calls with date/time information in the Call List. The number will be
shown on the LCD when the phone is ringing.
If the caller number is disabled to send caller information, “Withheld” will
display.
If the caller number is not provided, “Out of Area” will display.
In standby, if three unanswered calls are received, “3 New Calls” will be
displayed.

6.1. View the Call List
All received calls are saved in Call List with the latest call putting at the top of
the list. When the call list is full, the oldest call will be replaced by a new call.
The unanswered call which has not been read is marked with .

7. REDIAL THE LAST NUMBER
You can redial up to 10 of the last numbers called.
In idle mode, press and hold key to access the redial list.

8. PHONE SETTING
8.1. Set the Ringer Melody for Internal/External Calls
1. Press and / to select HS Settings.
2. Press and / to select Ring Setup.
3. Press and / to select Int Ring or Ext Ring.
4. Press and / to select the desired ringer melody from the melody list.
Note: The respective ringer melody will be played while browsing the melody list.
5. Press toconrm.
8.2. Set the Ringer Volume
1. Press and / to select HS Settings.
2. Press and / to select Ring Setup.
3. Press and / to select Ring Volume.
4. Press and / to select the desired ringer volume (a total of 6
ringer volume levels including OFF).
Note: The respective ringer volume will be played during your selection.
If OFF is selected, icon will display.
5. Press toconrm.

8.4. Set handset Settings
1. In standby mode, press the menu key .
2. Select HS Settings and press .
• Display: Select Contrast and set the desired contrast
• or
• select Rename HS and change the name for the handset if necessary.
• Date & Time: Select Date & Time and set Date Format, Time Format
and Set Time/Date.
• Tone Setup:SelectToneSetupandsetonoroinKeyTone,Battery
Tone or Out of Range.
• Language: Select the setting for the on-screen language.
• Automatic answer: If this function is activated, an incoming call is
accepted directly when removing the handset from the base station,
you do not need to press any button.
• Reset phone: Select Default, you can reset the system to its factory
defaultstate.EnterthePIN(default“0000”)andconrmthesecurity
question with .
• Equalizer: This function allows you to modify the sound quality of the
handset. During the call, press the menu key . Select Normal, Bass
or Treble and press to save the setting.
8.5. Set Base
1. In standby mode, press the menu key .
2. Select BS Settings and press .
• Dial mode: Select Tone or Pulse. The normal dialing procedure for analog
connections is “Tone” (tone dialing). When operating with certain older
telephone systems the dialing procedure should be changed to “Pulse”
(decadic pulse dialing).
• Delete HS: Enter the PIN of the base station and select the handset you
wanttodelete.Conrmthesecurityquestionwith .
• Flash duration: Choose 100 ms, 270 ms or 600 ms. In order to use
thenetwork performance characteristics,a certain ashsignalwitha
certain length is required.
• Change PIN: Select Change PIN?, and enter Old PIN, press , and
then enter New PIN, press toconrm.
• Eco Mode:SelectOnorOandpress .

9. ANSWERING MACHINE
Your phone includes a telephone answering machine that records unanswered
calls when it is on. The LED message counter (two digits seven segment
display) on the base will show the number of the messages when the answering
machine is on. The answering machine can store up to 59 messages within the
maximum recording time of approximately 30 minutes. As well as recording
incoming messages, you can record memos for other users of your phone. If
the answering machine memory is full, the Handset will display Memory Full
and the handset name alternatively in standby, or display Memory Full and the
date/time information in standby.
9.1. Turn On/O the Answering Machine
Youcanturnonorotheansweringmachinethroughthebaseorhandset.
When the answering machine is set to On, calls will be answered after the
set answer delay and the caller can then leave you a message. When the
answering machine is set to O, calls will be answered after 12 rings and the
answer only message will be played to your callers. They will not be able to
leave you a message.
Through the Base:
1. Press on the base station.
• If answering machine is set to On, displays on the handset LCD
and the 7-seg LED on the base station will display the number of
incoming messages.
• If answering machine is set to O, will disappear from the
handset LCD and the 7-seg LED on the base station will display - -.
Through the Handset:
1. Press and / to select Ans. Machine.
2. Press and / to select Tam On/O.
3. Press and / to select On or O.
4. Press toconrm.
• If answering machine is set to On, displays on the handset LCD and
the 7-seg LED on the base station will display the number of incoming
messages.
• If answering machine is set to O, will disappear from the handset
LCD and the 7-seg LED on the base station will display - -.
9.2. Listen to the Messages in the Answering Machine
When new messages are recorded on the answering machine, ashesonthe
handsetdisplayandthemessagecounteronbaseasheswiththenumberof

during message playback respectively.
Note: If there are no new messages, “00” will display steadily in the message counter on

Listen new messages through the Handset:
1. Press and / to select Ans. Machine.
2. Press and / to select Msg Playback.
3. Press to start message playback and the screen displays the date
and time information of the message received.
For 1580 / 1582 / 1583, listen messages through the handset earpiece. For
1580 / 1582 / 1583, listen messages through the handset speaker by default
or earpiece by pressing to toggle between handset speakerphone and
earpiece for listening the messages.
Note: is placed at the centre of the bottom of the LCD to indicate that it is a new
message.
If this message has been read or listened, the will disappear and will be
reectednexttimewhenyoulistentothismessageagain.
Note: If there are no new & old messages, “00” will display steadily in the message
counter on the base.
Press to display “00--00 00--00’’ and return back to Ans. Machine menu.
4. During message playback, press or to increase or decrease the
message playback volume respectively.
Note: After new message is played, the new message will be saved as an old message
automatically unless it is deleted.
5. Press to select Stop, Forward, Previous, Delete to perform the
following functions during message playback.
Stop: Stop the current message playback and return to the Ans. Machine menu.
Forward: Skip to play the next message. The date and time information of
the next message ill display if there is next message.
Previous: Skip to repeat playing the current message from the beginning.
The date and time information of the current message will display.
Delete: Delete the current message and the next message will be played.
Note:Alternatively,youcanusethefollowingshortcutkeystocontroldierentoperation
during message playback.
Press to stop message playback.
Press to skip to repeat playing the current message from the beginning.
Press to twice to skip backward to the previous message.
Press to skip to play next message.
Press to delete the current message playback.

9.3. Delete All Messages in the Answering Machine
Delete all messages through the Base:
In idle:
1. Press and hold on the base station.
2. All the old messages will be deleted.
Note: New messages will not be deleted. If there are no more messages in the answering
machine, “00’’ will display on the base station.
Delete all messages through the Handset:
1. Press and / to select Ans. Machine.
2. Press and / to select Delete All.
3. Press toconrm.
4. Press to delete all old messages.
Note: If there are no more messages in the answering machine, Empty will display and
return back to Ans. Machine menu.
9.4. Record Memo
You can record your memo message for another user.
When you record a memo, the message counter will increase by one and the
message can be played back
in the same way as answering machine messages.
Memo recording can still function even when the answering machine is
turnedo.
1. Press and / to select Ans. Machine.
2. Press and / to select Memo.
3. Press to start memo recording and Recording is displayed.
4. Press to stop memo recording and save the memo.
OR
5. Press to stop memo recording without saving and return back to
Ans. Machine menu.
9.5. Answering Machine Settings
You can use the Tam Settings menu through the handset to change the
settings of your answering machine.
9.5.1. Set the Answer Mode
By default, the answer machine is set in Ans & Rec mode which allows call-
ers to leave a message. This mode can be changed to Answer Only which
does not allow callers to leave a message. In that case, your callers will be
prompted to call back later.
1. Press and / to select Ans. Machine.
2. Press and / to select Tam Settings.
3. Press and / to select Answer Mode.
4. Press and / to select Ans & Rec or Answer Only.
5. Press toconrm.

9.5.2. Set the Outgoing Message Language
The answering machine announces the outgoing message when it answers a
call. There is a pre-set OGM for each of Ans & Rec mode or Answer Only
mode. You are able to select your desired OGM language to playback.
1. Press and / to select Ans. Machine.
2. Press and / to select Tam Settings.
3. Press and / to select Tam Language.
4. Press and / your desired OGM language.
5. Press toconrm.
9.5.3. Record Your Own Outgoing Message (OGM)
You can record your own OGM for Ans & Rec mode or Answer Only mode.
When you record your own OGM, it will be used when the answering machine
answers the call. If your personalized OGM is deleted, the pre-set OGM will
be restored automatically.
1. Press and / to select Ans. Machine.
2. Press and / to select Tam Settings.
3. Press and / to select OGM Settings.
4. Press and / to select Ans & Rec or Answer Only.
5. Press and / to select Record Mess.
6. Press to start recording your personalized OGM and “Recording” is
displayed on the screen.
7. Press to stop and save your personalized OGM.
Your newly saved OGM will playback automatically. Alternatively, press
to return to previous screen without saving the personalized OGM.
9.5.4. Playback and Delete the Outgoing Message (OGM)
You can playback your own personalized OGM or the pre-set OGM for Ans &
Rec mode or Answer Only mode and choose to delete your personalized
OGM during playback and record a new one whenever you want.
Please note that pre-set OGM cannot be deleted.
9.5.4.1. Playback the OGM
1. Press and / to select Ans. Machine.
2. Press and / to select Tam Settings.
3. Press and / to select OGM Settings.
4. Press and / to select Ans & Rec or Answer Only.
5. Press and / to select Playback.
6. Press to playback your personalized OGM (if you have recorded a
personalized OGM before) and “Playing OGM” is displayed on the screen.
7. Press to stop the OGM playback and return to the previous menu.
Note: If a personalized OGM is not recorded before, the pre-set OGM will be played.

9.5.4.2. Delete the personalized OGM
1. Repeat Steps 1 to 6 in Section 9.5.4.1
2. Press to delete your personalized OGM and return to previous menu
and the pre-set OGM is restored automatically.
Note: If pre-set OGM is playing, you are not allowed to delete the pre-set OGM and thus
will not display.

9.5.5. Set the Answer Delay
You can set the number of rings before the answering machine answers and
starts playing your OGM. You can set the answering machine to answer after
two to ten rings.
1. Press and / to to select Ans. Machine.

(Available options: 2 Rings, 4 Rings, 6 Rings, 8 Rings or 10 Rings).
4. Press and / to to select Ans & Rec or Answer Only.
5. Press and / to to select your desired answer delay.

10. REGISTRATION
Your handset and base station is pre-registered.
Up to 4 handsets can be registered to a single base station.
If for some reason, the handset is not registered to the base station ashes
even when the handset is near the base station).
1. Press and hold onthebasestationforaboutveseconds,thebase
station is entered into registration mode.
2. Press and / to select Registration.
3. Press and select the destination base you would like to register to.
4. Press and you are requested to enter the 4-digit system PIN. Enter
the 4-digit system PIN (default PIN is 0000).
5. Press toconrm.
Ifthehandsetregistrationis successful, you will hear a conrmation tone
and the willstopashing.
