General information
The ANAB automatic sharpening machine X5 Is an automatic grinding machine for sawing
and machine chains. Through the operation and adjustment possibility of the machine,
almost all chain types can be ground.
By automatically sensing the cutting teeth the grinding wheel is always in the correct
position. The machine works electro-pneumatically and is equipped with a programmable
control unit.
The electrical equipment is protected in the lower part of the machine.
The construction is designed for long and uninterrupted operation, only simple servicing is
required.
Service work or re - adjustment of the machine should always be carried out by trained
Personnel.
The following settings must be made before the sharpening process:
Adjust the chain gauges
Gap setting
Adjusting the depth / depth measurement delimiter
Adjust the tooth length
Compressed air
Number of cutting teeth
Adjust the sharpening angles αand β.

Safety regulations
For all work on the machine (e.g. when profiling the grinding wheel)
Wear protective clothing, gloves and facial masks!
In the vicinity of the machine, hearing protection should be used!
Always use grinding wheels recommended by ANAB!
Always check saw chains for damage before sharpening
(e.g. damaged teeth or rivets)!
Bent chains should be repaired or disposed of before sharpening!
Damaged chains (cutting teeth) should be repaired before sharpening!
Damaged chains that have been used on stone or hard materials must be disposed of.
The safety screen on the sharpening machine must be closed before starting the sharpening
process!
The air pressure at the manometer must be checked before operation! If the pressure is too
high Danger of explosion!
Always check that there is no damage to the electrical connections before you start the
machine!
The electrical connection should be earthed and the work carried out by a professional!
In the case of an electrical fault, always use a qualified electrician!
If you have other faults on the machine, contact your service technician ANAB!
If the machine is working, there should be no unauthorized persons nearby!

Sharpening:
The ANAB X5 Is designed for sharpening saw chains with a tooth pitch up to 20 mm and a
drive link thickness of up to 3.0 mm.
Before sharpening:
In principle, it is possible to grind difficult or damaged chains, but for safety reasons it is
not recommended.
Check the chains carefully before grinding. Pay particular attention to cracks on the rivets
and discard damaged or worn chains.
Common chain damage - for example:
Stiff, tight chains, badly lubricated chains with seized rivets.
Strong impact or abrasive damage to the cutting teeth.
Bent teeth or links.
Fatigue damage, cracking on the rivets.
Too short cutting teeth (the tooth length must be min. 5 mm)
Strikingly unequal length of the cutting teeth.
Very unevenly ground chains.
Dry chains, loose rivets.
Working principle:
The machine scans each cutting tooth separately as the saw chain advances and recognizes
independently whether a "left" or "right" cutting tooth is in the sharpening position.
Accordingly, the grinding wheel is pivoted and then the grinding unit is moved for
sharpening.

Compressed air:
The compressed air should be shut off with the air shut-off valve when the machine
is not in use.
Slowly open the shut-off valve.
Adjust the air pressure with the valve to 6 bar on.(See page 19).
Drive link thickness:
1. Loosen the locking handle under the chain holder.
2. Set the correct drive link thickness using the adjustment
knob .
3. Increase or decrease the gap between the chain rail
plates with the adjusting knobs for drive link, so
that the chain runs easily.
4. Close the locking handle again.
Adjustment of the tooth division
1. Turn off the compressed air.
2. Loosen the clamping lever for the tooth-setting.
(see Figure 1).
3. Slide the holder to the correct value on the scale.
4. After adjustment, tighten the clamping lever.

Feed setting:
The changes to the feed setting only need to be made when changing to another
chain type.
Power and compressed air are switched on. The right grinding wheel is tense.
(See the table page 4)
1. Place the chain in the chain holder.
2. Loosen the lock and turn the grinding wheel up with the hand wheel
3. Move the chain so that a cutting tooth is in front of the tooth feed.
If you press the feed down, check whether the correct feed-
sensor Is actuated. (See Figure 2)
Figure 2
Distance between feed plate and drive elements
This setting is necessary to ensure the feed pushes
the chain only on back of a cutting tooth and not on
a connecting member.
1. Go to the Step operation side. (Press the start-
button for more than two seconds.)
2. Proceed step by step until a cutting tooth
has been advanced.
3. Use the rotary knob to adjust the distance to
drive to approx. 0.5 mm

In all maintenance work, the compressed air should always be switched off,
in order to prevent unnecessary accident risks. Also make sure that current or the
compressed air cannot be switched on unintentionally.
Daily
Clean the sensors on the feed unit.
Clean the chain holder, "the rail"
to prevent bad detention.
Use a cloth or a small brush.
Do not use compressed air as abrasive particles
can enter the machine.
