Quick Start Guide
1. Unpack the Switch and Check Contents
AS6710-32X 40G Top-
of-Rack Switch
Rack Slide-Rail Kit—contains two rails, two brackets,
and eight screws for mounting in a four-post rack.
Documentation—Quick Start Guide (this document)
and Safety and Regulatory Information
Note:
The switch ships with two power supply units (PSUs)
and five fan trays installed.
Note:
The switch has the Open Network Installer
Environment (ONIE) software pre-loaded on the switch, but
no switch software image.
Caution:
The switch includes plug-in power supply (PSU)
and fan tray modules that are installed into its chassis. All
rear-installed modules must have a matching airflow
direction. That is, if the installed power modules have a
front-to-back (F2B) airflow direction, all the installed fan
tray modules must also have a F2B airflow direction.
The airflow direction of PSU and fan tray modules is
indicated by the color the release lever or handle on the
modules. Blue indicates an intake (cool) airflow, and red
indicates an exhaust (warm) airflow.
2. Mount the Switch
a. Release the Slide-Rail Brackets
For each rack-rail assemby, pull the slider and slide-rail
bracket out to its full extended position.
Push the white release latch on the inside of the slider to
release the slide-rail bracket from the assembly.
Pull the slide-rail bracket out until it is free from the
assembly.

b. Attach Slide-Rails and Bracket Ears to the Switch
Use the included screws to attach the bracket ears to each
side of the switch.
Position each slide-rail bracket on the side of the switch so
that aligns with the four mounting tabs.
Push the bracket onto the mounting tabs and then slide it
back unti it clicks in place and is secured.
c. Attach the Rack-Rail Assembly to the Rack
Attach the front part of each rack-rail assembly to the front
rack post.
Extend the rear part of the rack-rail assembly until fits into
the rear rack post.

d. Mount the Switch in the Rack-Rails
Fully extend the inner slide-rail of both rack-rail assemblies.
Slide the ends of the slide-rail brackets on the switch into
the inner slide-rails.
Push the blue release latches on each slide-rail bracket to
enable the switch slide into the rack. Secure the bracket ears
to the rack-rail assembly using the thumb screws.
Caution:
Installing the switch into the rack-rails requires
two people. One person should hold the switch in position
close to the inner slide-rails, while the other slides the ends
of the slide-rail brackets into the rail assembly.
4. Connect Power
Install one or two universal AC PSUs in the switch that have
the same airflow direction as the installed fan trays.
Note:
If the fan trays have blue handles, the PSUs must have
blue release levers for a matching airflow direction.
Connect an external AC power source to the front or rear
panel, depending on use case. If connecting power to the
rear, the pass-through cables are not needed.
Use the included power cable ties to secure the power cord
connections at the front and rear of the switch.

5. Verify Switch Operation
Verify basic switch operation by checking the system LEDs.
When operating normally, the PS1/PS2, Diag, and Fan LEDs
should all be on green.
6. Perform Initial System Boot
If the network operating system (NOS) installer is located on
a network server, first connect the RJ-45 Management
(Mgmt) port to the network using 100-ohm Category 5, 5e
or better twisted-pair cable. (Not required if the NOS
installer is located on attached storage.)
Boot the switch. Wait for the ONIE software to locate and
execute the NOS installer, and then wait for the installer to
load the NOS software image.
Subsequent switch boots will bypass ONIE and directly run
the NOS software.
Note:
Refer to NOS installer and NOS documentation for
details on software location options and set up for ONIE.

7. Connect Network Cables
Connect DAC cables directly to the QSFP+ slots. Or first
install QSFP+ transceivers in the slots.
Connect fiber optic cabling to the transceiver ports.
The following transceivers are supported:
◆40GBASE-CR4
◆40GBASE-SR4
Note:
As connections are made, check the port status LEDs
to be sure the links are valid.
