Managed Switch SMC6224M
TigerStack™ 10/100
Stackable 24-port 10/100 + 2 Stacking Ports + 2 1000BaseT/SFP Combo Ports
www.smc.com
SMC Networks' SMC6224M is a high-performance, managed,
stackable Layer 2 switch that provides an ideal solution
for workgroups and departments. The (24) 10/100Mbps
Fast Ethernet ports allow desktops to access network
resources through flexible 4 Gig uplinks. The entire stack
can be managed via a single IP address for simplified network
administration.
Utilizing an 12.8Gbps switch capacity and support for
8,000 MAC addresses, the SMC6224M is a wire-speed,
high performance switch ideal for workgroups or depart-
ments. The SMC6224M supports port trunking with up to
6 trunk groups with 2 to 8 ports in each group per stack.
Port trunking enables business users to increase availability
and aggregated bandwidth between servers and/or other
switches, optimizing the transport of business critical
data. The SMC6224M uses the 1 Gbps ports to interconnect
up to 8 units within a stack.
By supporting the IEEE approved specifications, the
SMC6224M leverages your existing investment in a
multi-vendor environment, while maximizing compatibil-
ity of mission critical features such as, Spanning Tree
(802.1d), QoS (802.1p/DiffServ/TCP&UDP port number),
VLANs (802.1Q), and network management (SNMP/
RMON/BOOTP/Telnet/Web). The SMC6224M robust support
of standards-based network management protocols
(SNMP/RMON/BOOTP/Telnet/Web/TFTP) and port mirroring
enables the SMC6224M to be easily integrated into many
third-party network management packages. The
SMC6224M also supports redundant power when combined
with the SMCRPU14 Redundant power Supply unit.
The SMC6224M brings advanced enterprise functions to
a more affordable level while supporting advanced features:
L2/L3/L4 (QoS), 802.1x (Port-based Authentication),
802.1x (MAC-based Authentication) IGMP snooping,
802.1w (Rapid Spanning Tree), 802.1s (Multiple Spanning
Tree group), 802.3ad (Link Aggregation), and 802.1q
(VLANs). L2/L3/L4 (ACLs) can be configured based on:
Protocol type, 802.1p, DSCP, MAC Address, IP Address,
and/or TCP/UPD Port Number. These features facilitate
the deployment of enterprise applications such as: VOIP,
streaming media, and multicast content delivery (IP
video conferencing and software deployment).
FEATURES
High-port density and migration protection in a small footprint
Stacking
QoS
VLAN with GVRP and 802.1s/v
IGMP Snooping
MultiLink Trunking with LACP
Comprehensive security support
Redundant Power Supply
Support s 24*10/100Mbps with 4 gigabit ports in an 1RU chassis
Stacks up to 8 units using 2 of the gigabit ports on the front panel
Support four levels of priority, with weighted fair queuing
and L2/3/4 IP precedence--ensures smooth transmission of
mission critical data
Support VLANs based on frame tags or ports, plus support
for automatic GVRP LAN registration spanning tree per
VLAN--provides maximum security and bandwidth efficiency
Only allows IP Multicast traffic transmission to the regis-
tered members, resulting bandwidth savings--reduce IP mul-
ticast traffic and increase LAN performance
Can group links between switches to provide higher band-
width of up to 800Mbps--increase B/W for dedicated link
Currently supports RADIUS, IEEE802.1x, SSH,
SSL,TACACS+, ACL
Provides backup power in case of power failure
