3GeneralInformation
3.1OverviewofProduct
TheAND1100™Fluorimeterenablesfieldtestingtobedoneintwoshortsteps,
eliminatingorsignificantlyreducingtestexpenditures,complexityandwaittimes
experiencedintraditionalheavymetalswatertesting.TheFluorimeterusesan
extremelysensitivemeasurementtechniquetodeterminethelevelsofheavymetal
contaminants.ANDalyze’sproprietaryCatalyticDNAsensorsuseaDNAzymereaction
thatfluorescesinthepresenceofatargetcontaminantsubstancesuchaslead.The
fluorescenceofthereactionismeasuredtodeterminetheconcentrationofthe
targetheavymetalandisreportedinpartsperbillion(ppb).Usingtheproducttotest
formetalsisasimple,quantitativetestthatallowsfordetectionatorbelowUSEPA
standardsindrinkingwater.Thetestisperformedbytakinga1milliliterwater
sample,injectingitthroughthesensor,andintotheAND1100fluorimeter.This
sampleisthenautomaticallyanalyzedandreportsresultsinlessthantwominutes.

3.4OperatingEnvironmentandStorage
Important:Thefollowingconditionsarenecessarytoensurecorrectinstrumentoperationandaccurate
results:
‐Placetheinstrumentfirmlyonaflatandevensurfaceduringoperation.
‐Maintainanambienttemperatureof10to40ºC(50to104ºF)forproperfluorimeteroperation.Pleasesee
themanualforeachspecificmetalforsensorspecifictemperatureconditions.
‐Therelativehumidityshouldbelessthan80%;moistureshouldnotcondenseontheinstrument.
‐Donotoperateorstoretheinstrumentinextremelydusty,damporwetlocations.
‐Keepthesurfaceoftheinstrument,thecellcompartmentandallaccessoriescleananddry.
‐Sensorsarestableupto1yearifstoredat<23˚C(74˚F),<50%R.H.awayfromdirectsunlight.Forbest
results,storeintherefrigerator(4˚C/39˚F).
‐Buffersolutionsarestableupto6monthsifstoredat<23˚C(74˚F)butifstoredintherefrigerator
(4˚C/39˚F),canbeusedforupto1year.

Note:Thisisadrinkingwatertestkit.Ifyouaretestingothermatricessuchassurfacewater,groundwateror
industrialwater;contactANDalyzecustomerserviceforadditionalapplicationnotes.
WaterSampling
‐Forbestresultsusefreshlycollectedsample(unpreserved)foranalysis.Werecommendthatyouusethe
samplewithin1hour(maximumof2hours)ofcollectiontominimizeanymetallosstothewallsofthe
samplecontainer.Thisisparticularlyimportantfortestingtraceleadlevels.
‐OncethesampleismixedwithANDalyzesamplebuffer,testwithin15minutes.
pHRange
‐TestshaveshownthatenvironmentalsamplespreservedinacidtoapH<2cannotusuallybebroughtto
anappropriatepHwhenmixedwiththeANDalyzebuffer.Thesesamplesmustbefirstneutralizedwith
NaOHtoasuitablepHbeforemixingwithANDalyzebuffer.PleasecontactANDalyzecustomerservicefor
instructionsrelatedtopre‐treatmentofhighlyacidicorhighlybasicsamples.
4Set‐UpandOperatingProcedures
4.1ChargingtheBattery
Important:Beforeusingtheinstrumentassurethatthefluorimeterdeviceischarged.
ToConfirmtheBatteryLevel:
1. TurnPowerONbypressingandHoldingtheON/OFFbutton.(See
HorizontalArrowonPhototoRight)
2. Oncedeviceisinitiated,confirmthebatteryindicatorstatusisgreen
(SeeVerticalArrowonPhototoRight).Thebatteryindicatorshouldnot
bered(asseeninthephototoright)
ChargingtheBattery:
1. ReleasetheRubberBootatthebottomofthemeter.
2. AttachtheUSBtoMINI‐BCabletotheoutletatthebottomofthe
deviceandtoaUSBpoweredsourcesuchasacomputeroraUSB
charger.(SeePhototoRight).
Note:Whenthemeterischarging,thebatteryindicatorwilldisplayyellow
linesacrossandaroundtheindicator.

calibrated.Sobyselectingasite,thiscalibrationcanbeusedrepeatedly.

5SiteSet‐UpandManagement
Thissectionprovidesinformationconcerningtheset‐upandmanagementofSites.Asdifferentsample
locationscontaindifferentwatercharacteristics(samplematrix)itisrecommendedtocreateanewsitefor
eachsamplearea.Thisallowstheusertotrackandcomparetheresultsateachlocationwhilealsonormalizes
theresultsthroughanon‐sitecalibration.
5.1 NewSiteSet‐Up
Sitesareimportantbecauseeachwatersamplecontainsdifferenceswhichaffecttestingresults.Itis
recommendedthateachlocationissitecalibrated.Sobycreating,calibratingandselectingthatsiteinthe
future,thiscalibrationcanbeusedrepeatedly.PleaseseethespecificTestingandCalibrationManualfor
detailedinstructions.
Tocreateanewsite:

5.2 On‐SiteCalibration
Whentestingwateratanewlocation,theinstrumenthastobecalibratedforaccuratereadings.Completing
theOn‐SiteCalibrationrequirestwoseparatesolutionsandtests.Attheendoftheprocess,thefluorimeteris
calibratedfortestingwateratthatsiteandalsoprovidestheleadtestresultsforthissite.Acalibrationmay
onlybeaccuratewhenoriginallyperformed.Donotrelyonacalibrationtobeaccurateoverlongtimeperiods
asenvironmentalsamplescanvarygreatly.
TheOn‐Sitecalibrationprocessadjustsforchangesinsamplematrix(suchasionicstrengthandpH)by
calculatingtherecoveryofaknownspikeinthatmatrix.Whenauserperformsanon‐sitecalibrationforLead,
forexample,thefluorimetersoftwarecalculatestheppbofleadinthesample(a)andtheppbofleadin
samplespikedwith25ppblead(b)usingthecalibrationcurvefromthe3pointcalibration(initiallycompleted
atfactoryorinlaboratory).Itthencalculatesanaccuracyfactorbasedon%recovery.Accuracyfactor=25/b‐a.
Thisfactorisstoredforaparticularsitethattheuserenters.Thesampleconcentrationdisplayedafteranon‐
sitecalibration=a*accuracyfactor.
Important:On‐Sitecalibrationmustbeperformediftestingisbeingdone:
‐Atanewlocationwhichhasnotbeenpreviouslysaved.
‐Toadjustforsignificantchangesinsamplingtemperature.
‐Whenbeginningtouseanewlotofsensors.

Important:Undernocircumstancesshouldtheinstrument,displayortheaccessoriesbecleanedwithsolvents
suchaswhitespirit,acetone,etc.
Fluorimeter
‐Cleantheenclosure,samplecellcompartmentsandallaccessorieswithasoftdampcloth.Amildsoap
solutioncanalsobeused.Donotgetexcesswaterinthesamplecellcompartments.Donotinsertabrush
orsharpobjectintosamplecellcompartmenttoavoiddamagingthemechanicalcomponents.Drythe
cleanedpartscarefullywithasoftcottoncloth.
Display
‐Takecarenottoscratchthedisplay.Donottouchthescreenwithballpointpens,pencilsorsimilarpointed
objects.
‐Cleanthedisplaywithasoft,lint‐freeandoil‐freecottoncloth.
‐Dilutedwindowcleanerliquidcanalsobeused.
SampleChamber
‐Splashesorspillsonandintheinstrumentshouldbecleanedupimmediately.Removeanyliquidinsidethe

10 LimitedWarrantyforFluorimeterDevice
ANDalyzeprovidesthefollowinglimitedwarrantyfortheANDalyzeAND1100Fluorimeterdevice(the
“FluorimeterDevice”).ANDalyzewarrantsthattheFluorimeterDevice(includingthesoftwareusedonthe
FluorimeterDevice),whenusedinaccordancewiththeuserdocumentation,willoperateinallmaterial
respectsinconformitywiththespecificationsstatedintheuserdocumentationforaperiodofninety(90)days
fromthedateofyourreceipt(the“WarrantyPeriod”).Ifitdoesnot,yoursoleremedyandANDalyze’stotal
liabilityforsuchmaterialnonconformityintheFluorimeterDevicewillbe,atANDalyze’soptionanddiscretion,
torepairorreplacetheFluorimeterDeviceatANDalyze’sexpenseortorefundthepurchaseprice(butnotany
taxes,exportorshippingfees)andsubjecttothelimitationsinTheforegoingremedyissubjecttothe
LimitationofLiabilityasdescribedwherein.Toqualify,youmustnotifyANDalyzeduringtheWarrantyPeriod
ofanyproblemsthatyouexperiencewiththeFluorimeterDevice.ANDalyzewillhavenoliabilityforany
nonconformityofwhichyoufailtonotifyANDalyzepriortotheexpirationoftheWarrantyPeriod.This
warrantydoesnotapplyto(i)FluorimeterDevicewhichhasbeenusedinamannerotherthanasauthorized
undertheseTermsandthedocumentationprovidedwiththeFluorimeterDevice(includingtheproduct
brochureandfluorimeterspecifications);(ii)anysoftwareontheFluorimeterDevicethathasbeenmodifiedby
youoranypartyotherthanANDalyzeorwhichhasbeenimproperlyinstalledtotheextentsuchmodification
orimproperinstallationcausedthebreachofwarranty;(iii)failurescausedbyaccident,neglect,failureto
maintainasuitableoperatingenvironment,tampering,oranyothereventotherthanordinaryuse.
