4. INSTALLTION AND OPERATION
LN4000 is a pre-amplifier for receiver/scanner.
Never connec he LN4000 o a ransmi er, or ransceiver in ransmi s a e.
Connect antenna (signal so rce) and receiver as shown below. Use s pplied SMA-BNC adapter or
pre-assembled coaxial cable with SMA connectors.
DC Cable with DC Ja k.
Use s pplied DC cable to feed the DC power to the LN4000. Connect wires (black / black-red) to
the reg lated DC power s pply. Black lead sho ld be connected to the negative (-) side of the power
s pply, and black-red lead sho ld be connected to the positive (+) side of the power s pply.
Altho gh the LN4000 operates at 12VDC, se medi m voltage (8VDC to 9VDC) if power s pply is
adj stable type. Excessive voltage above 12VDC may damage LN4000.
Commercially available SMA(P)-BNC(P) adapter is convenient when installing the LN4000 to a
receiver with BNC Jack.

The LN4000 can be sed with post-amplifier for the spectr m analyzer and freq ency co nter. The
LN4000 can be mo nted directly to those instr ments with coaxial adapter as shown example below.
The following example shows sample meas rement when LN4000 is sed as pot-amplifier for the
spectr m analyzer.

NOTE: Th abov sampl m asur m nts includ conn ctor and cabl loss.
5. OPERATIONAL HINTS
The LN4000 is a wideband amplifier with very flat gain characteristic. This means that the
LN4000 amplifies weak signals. At the same time it amplifies strong signals within a freq ency
range. This may degrade the receiver’s front-end characteristics.
It is highly recommended to se the LN4000 with an appropriate band-pass-filter, notch-filter etc., to
reject nearby strong signals. It is highly recommended to se a single freq ency antenna (not a
wideband antenna) if LN4000 is sed to improve the reception for a selected freq ency.
