Thiseasy-to-usekitprovidesaplatformfortheevaluationoflinearpoweramplierscircuitsusingthePA90/PA91/
PA92/PA93/PA98pin-out.Withamplebreadboardingareasitisexibleenoughtoanalyzeamultitudeofstandard
orproprietarycircuitcongurations.Criticalconnectionsforpowersupplybypassing,compensationandcurrent
limitingarepre-wired.Componentsnotusuallyreadilyavailableinengineeringlabsareprovided.Externalcon-
nectiontotheevaluationkitcanbemadeviatheterminalsattheedgeofthecircuitboard.Theseterminalpadsare
suitableforstandardbananajacksordirectsolderingofwires.TheschematicisshowninFigure2.

1. SeeFigure1.SolderthesurfacemountceramiccapacitorstotheDUTsideofthecircuitboardatC1andC2.
2. SoldertheelectrolyticcapacitorstothecircuitboardatC3andC4.Matchthepolaritymarkingsonthecircuit
boardwiththoseonthecapacitorbody.
3. Selectacurrentlimitingresistorfromthethreevaluesprovided.Seetheproductdatasheetforinformationon
howtoselectavalue.Applyathincoatingofthermalgreasetothebackoftheresistor.Usinga4-40X1/4"
screwand4-40nut,mounttheresistortothelowerofthetwoholesinthesmallheatsinkprovided.Solderthis
assemblytothecircuitboardatRLIM.Aftersolderingtheresistorleadsthetabsontheheatsinkmaybebentwith
plierstosecureittothecircuitboard.
4. Examinethelargeheatsink.Noticethatthereareseveralholesinthefaceoftheheatsink.Thesearefor
mountingvariousApexMicrotechnologyampliermodels.Thecircuitboardalignstheamplierwiththecorrect
mountingholeoncetheheatsinkisattachedtothecircuitboard.Theheatsinkcanbemountedineitheroftwo
positions.Onepositionisusedformountingtheampliertotheheatsinkwithoutthematingsocketstrip(the
mountingholeoftheamplierisclosertothecircuitboard).Rotatingtheheatsink180degreesallowsmounting
theamplierwiththematingsocketstrip(themountingholeoftheamplierisfurtherfromthecircuitboard).
5. Whiledevelopingyourapplicationcircuityouwillprobablywanttousethematingsocketstrip.Clipoffthestrip
afterthe12thposition.InsertthestripintothecircuitboardfromtheDUTsideandsolderonepinonthereverse
side.Checkthatthematingsocketstripisfullyseatedagainstthecircuitboardthensoldertheremainingpins.
Inserttheamplierfullyintothematingsocketstrip,notingthepin1locationsontheamplierandthecircuit
board.
6. Thefourholesatthecornersofthecircuitboardareformounting#6standoffspacersifdesired.Theremaining
twoslottedholesareformountingthelargeheatsinktotheDUTsideofthecircuitboard.Temporarilymountthe
heatsinkwith2#6X1/2"selftappingscrewsfromtheoppositesideofthecircuitboard.Donotfullytightenthe
screwsatthistime.Checkforalignmentoftheslotinthemountingtaboftheamplierwithaholeintheheat
sink.Dismountandrotatetheheatsinkifnecessarytoachieveanalignmentwithaholeintheheatsink.Posi-
tiontheheatsinksothatthebackoftheampliermountingtabisushwiththeheatsinkthentightentheheat
sinkmountingscrews.
