MOUNT (sold separately)
The quick-change motor mount system allows you to swap out
different motor mounts in your BT-80 tube size rocket, allowing
it to y on multiple diameter motors, as well as with a cluster
of motors. This gives your rocket a lot of versatility with motor
selection, and could save you lots of money.
This particular kit contains the Fixed Mount that is bonded
into the BT-80 tube, so that the removable motor mounts (not
included) can be screwed into the rocket. This is the part that
is not removable, and you’ll need one of this product for every
BT-80 size rocket in which you want to use the Quick-Change
Motor Mounts.

11. Remove the mount and jig, then use a dowel to apply a
bead of wood glue approximately 1/8” (3mm) wide to the inte-
rior of the tube beginning 3-1/4“ (83mm) from the aft end.
12. Slide the xed mount and jig into the tube and rotate the
mount into the glue (to distribute it over as much surface as
possible) pushing all the way until the jig stops at the edge of
the tube. This will place the xed mount at the correct depth
and ensure correct alignment.
13. Check from the front side of the tube (the open end) that
no glue has overowed onto the installation jig. Clean any
drips with a dowel. Allow the mount to dry for several minutes
before removing the installation jig. To remove the jig, rotate
it counterclockwise until the tabs on the jig line up with the
openings on the xed mount and pull the jig out. The xed
mount is now installed. Allow it to dry completely before
removable mounts are inserted.
14. The xed mount is now installed in the rocket and ready
to accept any of the removable mounts. Using the Quick-
Change Motor Mount System is as easy as attaching the
shock cord to the anchor on the removable mount then slid-
ing the mount into the back of the rocket, rotating it clockwise
until it drops into the slots and nally rotating another quarter
turn to latch the mount into position. To remove the mount
simply rotate a quarter turn counter-clockwise and pull the
mount out of the rocket.

Quick-Change Motor Mount System

1. Carefully remove the parts of the xed mount from the ply-
wood sheet (P/N 12704) using a sharp hobby knife.
2. Hold ring C (the aft ring) with the label facing toward you
then – using a needle le – bevel the four edges to the right
of the inner tabs as shown.
3. Take the two alignment frames and apply wood glue gen-
erously to all mating surfaces. Insert the the two alignment
frames into ring A (the front ring) from either side.
4. Rotate the Ring A assembly so that the pins face you. Ring
B is symmetric so, again, direction does not matter. Apply
wood glue to ring B (the center ring) and install ring B. Clean
any glue blobs in the inside or outside of the assembly with a
Q-tip.
5. Again apply wood glue to the center ring (ring B) and the
alignment pins. Install the aft ring (ring C, which was cham-
fered in step 2), taking care that the bevels and label are
facing toward the already assembled parts. Clean off any
glue blobs using a Q-tip as glue in the latch area will make
installation of removable mounts difcult or impossible.
Allow the xed mount to dry completely before installation.

6. Remove the parts of the xed mount installation jig from the
cardstock sheet (P/N 12705) with a sharp hobby knife.
7. Assemble the three frame pieces by inserting the tabs into
the slots. Do not glue yet.
8. Install both cardstock rings on the end of the assembled
frame that has tabs. Apply wood glue to the joints and let the
installation jig dry completely.
9. Once both the xed mount and the installation jig are com-
pletely dry, ensure that there are no glue blobs or protrusions
that may impair the motion of removable mounts. Dried
blobs can generally be removed by snapping them off with
the tip of a hobby knife. To prepare the xed mount for instal-
lation, latch the jig into it by aligning the tabs, inserting, and
rotating clockwise into place.
10. Do a trial t of the xed mount in the aft end of the marked
tube. If there are any glue blobs or misalignments that make
insertion difcult, sand the outer surface of the mount until it
can be slid into the tube smoothly.
