The Vampire V4 is an AMIGA compatible computer that uses
the Apollo core which is compatible with the Motorola 68K
processors while outclassing them in performance. The
Vampire V4 is equiped with the following connectors: a mini-
USB port for power, a non-bootable microSD connector, a video
and digital audio output, two USB connectors for keyboard and
mouse, an RJ45 port and two DB9 connectors for the joystick.
The following internal connectors are available: 3 IO headers
for future extensions, a RTC connector for a clock module, a
44-pin IDE port for mass storage, and a JTAG port for updating
the core.
3) Compatibility & current state of the core and AROS
Due to the nature of the FPGA, compatibility is constantly
improving. The list of compatible devices can be viewed here:
http://www.apollo-core.com
At the time of writing this manual, the core is in the following
state:
2
PIN 1
Red wire

Ethernet driver is included.
USB: support for some input devices like USB mice and
keyboards. See the list at http://www.apollo-core.com.
OCS/AGA: Many games and demos work perfectly, but
not all. This is continually improving.
Boot drives: boot from IDE/CF, microSD card for data
exchange. Bootable micro SD is in roadmap.
AROS, the next generation AMIGA-OS, is still in an early
phase of development. Somethings might not work yet.
We work day by day to bugfix all this, if you want to help
us you are welcome
5) Flashing the board
The Vampire V4 can be updated to benefit the latest Core
improvements, such as new features, speed improvements or
compatibility improvements.
The recommended way to install the FlashRom:
- Download a flashrom.exe from
http://www.apollo-core.com/index.htm?page=downloads
- Put the flashrom executable in the C drawer.
- Start your Vampire V4 from the early-startup without startup-
sequence. (Press both mouse buttons)
- Run the flashrom binary by typing its name from the CLI.
- Confirm the operation by typing 'YES' (in CAPS) and
RETURN.
- Wait until flashing is finished.
- Power Off your Vampire V4 and wait 30 seconds.
- Power On your Vampire V4.
Using the JTAG USB-Blaster:
- The USB-Blaster can be used to flash alpha- or beta-cores.
- Please consult the picture (left) where an how to connect the
JTAG. (plug in the wrong way, might destroy your board !)
You can use the microSD card to transfer the file from your
computer to the Vampire V4. Some AmigaOS, AROS and
FreeMiNT distributions dedicated to the Vampire range already
have the integrated support of the microSD.
