MANUAL AQUASTREAM XT
Dear c stomer,
we thank yo for p rchasing the aq astream XT p mp. Yo have received a
very high-q ality and for longevity b ilt p mp for yo r water cooling system.
The aq astream p mp was developed in co-operation with the company
Eheim and is partic larly developed for the employment in PC water-cooling
systems. The electronic constr ction nits are laid o t for maxim m
performance and each component has been thoro ghly tested before
distrib tion. Also each p mp is metic lo sly s bmitted to a test r n; therefore
yo might find some moist resid e within the p mp.
1. Scope of s pply
1x aq astream XT USB 12 V p mp
1x ATX adapter for starting the power s pply nit
1x USB connection cable
1x Speed signal cable
1x J mper
2. Overview of the p mp variants
Of the aq astream XT there are three different variants which are different in
their f nctional range. The p mp and its hardware is identical at all variants.
So e.g. the "standard" variant also contains the internal temperat re sensor
b t it is not activated.
Which variant yo se c rrently can be find o t later in the overview of the of
the aq as ite software. Under the graphic representation of the p mp the
variant activated c rrently is displayed as text.
The following table shows the differences between the standard, advanced
and ltra variant:

5. Assembly
First install the connecting adapters (not incl ded in the scope of s pply) to
the aq astream XT. The adapters sho ld be screwed in generally witho t a
tool ntil the stop. The black sealing may not be seen any more.
Sho ld yo be sing a pl g-on reservoir tank with the p mp (e.g. aq ainlet),
then yo m st remove the silver s ction grille and mo nt the tank directly on
the intake adaptor of the aq astream. In this case no connecting adapter
sho ld be installed on the intake.
If the p mp is to be eq ipped with an nco pling set, yo will first have to
remove the mo nting plate from the p mp and then fasten the r bber b ffers
with the enclosed n ts in the elongated holes of the mo nting plate.

6. Electronical connections
6.1. Connector panel of the p mp
The control electronics is integrated on
the rear side of the p mp. The b ilt-in
circ it board offers connectivities for
power s pply, fans, speed signal,
aq ab s or flow sensor, external
temperat re sensor and USB. Please take
into acco nt that depending on the
variant some connections can be witho t f nction.
T rn the power s pply nit off completely before yo attach or disconnect
external components!
In the following chapters the f nctions of the individ al connections are
described.
6.2. Making USB connection to the Mainboard
To be able to control and monitor the p mp thro gh the software a USB
connection to the PC m st be made. This connection, however, is not
imperative for the operation of the p mp. Connect the enclosed USB cable to
the USB port of the Mainboard while the PC is t rned off. Pay attention to the
correct orientation of the cable since the p mp and/or yo r comp ter can
otherwise be damaged.
Yo see a "1" as well as a little arrow on the USB pl g. Yo find these "1" and
the arrow also at the connection " sb" on the rear sticker of the p mp. At a
top view from behind the black wire is on the left and the red wire is on the
right.
6.3. Attaching speed signal cable
Attach the enclosed speed signal cable with one end at the connection "rpm"
while the PC is t rned off. Connect the other end to a free fan connector e.g.
on yo r Mainboard.
6.4. Attaching a fan (only advanced- and ltra-variant)
SAttach a fan to the connection "fan" while the PC is t rned off. Please take
into acco nt that the maxim m load sho ld not exceed 5 W. The aq astream

XT has an excess temperat re protection nit so that a switching off is
a tomatically carried o t at a too high load to avoid damages. The o tp t,
however, is not short-circ it proof!
6.5. Attach an external temperat re sensor (only ltra-variant)
Attach a 10 kΩ NTC temperat re sensor (Order no. 53026) at the
connection "deaeration/ext. temp" while the PC is t rned off. Place the sensor
top to the point whose temperat re yo wo ld like to meas re.
Ca tion: Place the sensor nder no circ mstances between processor and
cooler! Moreover, do not expose the sensor to any press re since it is very
sensitive.
6.6. Attaching flow rate sensor (only ltra-variant) or aq ab s (all variants)
At the standard and advanced variant the connection "aq ab s/flow" is
config red as an aq ab s and can be sed e.g. To connect the p mp to an
optionally available aq aero. A se as a connection for a flow sensor is not
possible at these variants!
This connection is covered with two f nctions at the ltra variant. In the
delivery state the connection is config red as an aq ab s, however, the
aq as ite software can be sed to config re the connection to be sed with a
flow sensor. A sim ltaneo s se of aq ab s and flow sensor is not possible at
the connection. Yo find details for the available settings in the aq as ite
software on page 11.
The flow sensor and the special interconnecting cable are optional
accessories and can be p rchased separately.
6.7. Internal water temperat re sensor (only ltra-variant)
The aq astream XT has an internal water temperat re sensor which is already
pre-assembled. This sensor can be monitored only in the aq astream XT
ltra-variant.
6.8. Internal temperat re sensor for the controller board
The controller board of the aq astream XT is eq ipped with a pre-assembled
temperat re sensor. The advanced- and ltra variant has in addition a two-
step protective f nction to avoid an overload of at the fan connector and a
possible damage to the controller board.

The power of the fan connector is p t on 100% at a temperat re of approx.
70°C to minimize the internal dissipation power. If the temperat re increases
nevertheless f rther, then the performance is p t on 0% at a temperat re of
approx. 90°C and the connection will be switched off.
In both cases the reg lation activates the man al mode ntil yo change the
adj stments by hand.

7. Inbetriebnahme
First t rn off yo r PC, or remove the main PSU cable if no power-switch is
present. Remove all cables of the PSU (e.g. from non removable disks, optical
storage drives or graphic cards), especially also the 4pin ATX12V power
s pply. Attach the p mp to the power s pply nit with one of the 4-pin Molex
pl gs to establish the power s pply.
To be able to operate yo r p mp when filling the system, yo m st now either
start the PC power s pply with the enclosed ATX bridging pl g or attach the
p mp to a second power s pply nit.
For starting the power s pply nit yo p t the ATX
bridging pl g on the ATX pl g of the power s pply
nit. The power s pply starts after yo have p t the
pl g on. To t rn the power s pply nit off, yo
simply npl g the pl g again.
There is the possibility that yo r power s pply does
not r n with the ATX bridging pl g. In this case add
CD disk drives and hard disks to the power s pply nit.
A red control LED which sho ld flash now is at the lower rear opening at the
p mp. If the LED does not flash and shines d rably there is an operating
fail re . In that case a reset which is described on page 14 can help.
To activate the deaeration mode yo p t the enclosed j mper on the
connection with the marking "deaeration/ext. Temp". P tting the j mper on
m st be carried o t while the p mp already r ns. To end the deaeration
mode yo simply remove the j mper again. The p mp is in the normal
operating mode now again.
8. aq as ite Software
With the Windows software aq as ite an extensive software is at yo r
disposal which can be sed for all aq a comp ter prod cts with USB
interface. The software serves the control and monitoring. The installation of
the software is not imperative for the operation of the p mp.
Note: Depending on sed variant of the aq astream XT, some of the
described f nctions in the f rther text are not available in the software. These
can, however, be activated by the acq isition of a key afterwards.
If yo change the settings and want to keep them, then yo can store these
permanently into the p mp by sing the f nction "save settings" in the men
"aq astream XT".

8.1. Installation der aq as ite Software
To be able to control and monitor the aq astream XT over a Windows(1) PC,
we offer the aq as ite software as a free download on o r website
www.aq a-comp ter .de . Yo find the latest version of the software in the
s pport area.
In addition yo need the Microsoft(1) .NET framework(1) 2.0 or higher. Yo
find this this also in o r download area. If yo se Windows Vista(1), yo do
not need this program, since it is already integrated into the operating system.
Please install the Microsoft(1) .NET framework(1) first and if necessary restart the
comp ter. If the program creates a new ser acco nt yo can j st delete it in
the control panel.
Then install the aq as ite software. After the installation the aq as ite
software is immediately ready for se. Depending on the chosen settings the
aq as ite starts at the next restart a tomatically or can be started via the icon
on the desktop or thro gh the start men .
The following sites describe the f nctions of each window in the aq as ite
software.
(1)Microsoft, Windows, .NET framework and Windows Vista are registered
trademarks of Microsoft Corporation.
8.2. Window „aq astream“
Yo see all important data s mmarized compactly in the main view. The
graphic representation of the p mp shows the water temperat re on the left
and on the right side the water flow rate if a ltra variant of the p mp is sed
and an optionally available flow sensor was attached to the p mp.
A ring-like indicator within the p mp shows information abo t the adj sted
freq ency with its bl e segments. The more bl e segments are visible, the
higher the freq ency of the p mp is. Yo find a similar indication in the
graphic representation of the ventilator. The segments show information
abo t the adj sted performance here.
The o tp t voltage as well as the performance is displayed above the
ventilator.
The scale on the right side shows the temperat re of the optionally available
external sensor. The little red triangle marks the adj sted alarm temperat re.
General operating data of the p mp can be fo nd in the pper left field. The
c rrent stat s of the p mp as well as possible fa lts are displayed in the field
at the end of the window.

Version 11/2007
MANUAL AQUASTREAM XT
8.3. Window „Fan“
In this window yo are able to choose whether the fan shall be reg lated
man ally or a tomatically into dependence of a temperat re and f rther
parameters. At the man al setting activate the "man al power adj stment"
and simply se the slider to adj st the power while for the option "temperat re
control" the temperat re of the external temperat re sensor or the internal
water temperat re sensor is sed for an a tomatic reg lation. Yo can
choose freely which sensor sho ld be sed for the reg lation.
Yo can infl ence all parameters by hand which are connected with the
a tomatic fan reg lation in the field temperat re reg lator. Inexperienced
sers can alternatively choose one of the predefined profiles.
On the right side two scales gives information abo t the o tp t voltage of the
fan header as well as the adj sted power. Moreover, the c rrently meas red
speed of the fan is displayed nder the scale.
8.4. Windows „P mp and flow rate settings“
Here yo can select whether the p mp shall be controlled a tomatically or
man ally.
At the "a tomatic freq ency settings" the freq ency of the p mp is
a tomatically set to the highest possible freq ency. To this the electronics of
the p mp determines permanently the position of the rotor, c rrent
cons mption, performance as well as the voltage and calc lates the optimal
operating point o t of this independently. To this is the freq ency repeatedly
tries to get as high as possible at a stable operation. Depending on the
resistance of a system the freq ency of the p mps reaches approx. 75 - 85
Hz in a normal loop.
Yo can adj st the p mp freq ency man ally at the "man al freq ency
settings". If the chosen val e is not attainable, then the p mp tries to adj st
the highest possible freq ency (below yo r target freq ency) like in the case
of the a tomatic freq ency setting.
With the b tton "reset maxim m p mp freq ency" the maxim m freq ency
fo nd o t c rrently is rejected in the a tomatic and in the man al mode and
the p mp tries once more to find the maxim m freq ency.
This process also can be a tomated by activating that the freq ency shall be
reset a tomatically after X min tes.
The a tomatic deaeration of the p mp can be actievated thro gh the option
"activate deaeration mode". In the delivery state the deaeration by j mper is
predefined as described at the beginning. To be able to start the deaeration

mode by j mper the option "activate by j mper mode (ext. Temperat re)"
m st be deactivated.
If yo like to se a flow sensor, then yo activate this flow sensor thro gh the
b tton "flow rate sensor active". Yo can adj st settings for the flow sensor
and also see the c rrent meas red flow val e in the lower area.
The other way yo can activate the aq ab s with the checkbox "aq ab s
active". Moreover, the "aq ab s address" can be changed, what becomes
necessary if yo wo ld like to attach two aq astream XT p mps by aq ab s
to an aq aero.
In addition, if yo want to control the aq astream XT thro gh the aq aero,
yo activate the option "prefer aq ab s comm nication". Witho t this setting
the aq aero can only reado t the p mp. All other operating settings m st be
carried o t via the aq as ite software.
A restart of the p mp m st be carried o t if yo change the aq ab s address
or reconfig re the connector. In this case, sh t down yo r comp ter, wait for
a few seconds and switch it on again.
8.5. Window „Speed signal and alarm settings“
The aq astream XT eval ates vario s val es over calc lations as well as
sensors which can be p t on an alarm. The rear stat s LED shines
permanently red at malf nctions or when an alarm val e has been exceeded
or fallen below. If a speed signal cable is attached it is possible to "switch off
the speed signal in case of an alarm". The switching off only works when in
the config ration of the speed signal o tp t the o tp t of a static speed
signal was selected (with specification for revol tions per min te). In the other
three modes the signal of the fan, the flow sensor or the p mp is always
forwarded independently of an alarm.
In the "alarm settings for speed signal o tp t" yo can define at which val es
an alarm shall be given o t. Yo can set pper respectively lower limits for
the external and internal temperat re sensor as well as for the flow sensor.
The "c rrent alarms" always displays all alarms which were established
independently of the alarm settings.
The n mber of meas ring imp lses indicates over which time period the
speed of the fan shall be determined. High val es deliver very exact val es
which are, however, pdated only slowly. Small val es accelerate the
meas ring b t meas rement res lts are more inacc rate.

MANUAL AQUASTREAM XT
8.6. Window „Sensor calibration“
In the pper area yo see a s mmary of the meas red temperat res for all
three sensors.
The firmware of the aq astream XT contains a pre-calibrated temperat re
c rve for each temperat re sensor. In case that the meas red temperat re
differs from the real temperat re, experienced sers can do a correction in
this window. Us ally no correction sho ld be necessary. At first select the
desired sensor. Yo can then adj st the associated ADC val e for every
predefined temperat re and therefore change the co rse of the calibration
c rve. The c rve is immediately pdated at changes and yo can immediately
check the temperat re calc lated from the new val es, too. To g arantee a
contin o s precision, it might be necessary to calibrate several points.
To restore the original temperat re c rves click on the b tton "load defa lt
val es in the lower left corner". Yo r individ al settings will be deleted and
replaced with the defa lt c rves.
8.7. Windows „Extended p mp settings“
The extended p mp settings are deactivated at all p mps and can be
activated only with a key which can be ordered free of charge. This key
excl sively activates the extended f nctions and does not have infl ence on
the f nctions of the individ al aq astream variants.
WARNING: the extended p mp settings partly engage deeply in the drive of
the p mp and can damage the p mp and its controller irreparably. We take
no responsibility for damages to the p mp or possible res ltant damages to
hardware and software.
When asking for a key this will be noted in a database and yo will lose the
g arantee!
8.8. Window „P mp information and key management“
Besides general data of the p mp and the fan yo also find the key
management here which determines which f nction range certainly is
activated. For activation of another variant yo need the serial n mber and
the p blic key of the p mp. Both m st be wrote in the remark field of the
shop when yo order an pgrade. Yo find more information regarding the
different p mp variants on page 4.

8.9. Window „XML & logdata“
The aq as ite offers extensive protocol and eval ation f nctions. To se
these, the log f nction m st be switched on. Also set the interval in which the
data shall be saved in the database of the aq as ite.
In the men "extra" yo are able to analyze the log data. Select the p mp
from the device list and click on the b tton "load data". Then drag the desired
val es from the right list to the left into the diagram and select a colo r.
To be able to se the val es from the aq as ite software in other
programmes, these can be stored into a XML file. Activate the option "start
a tomatic data export" and set a refresh interval as well as an o tp t file.
8.10. Window „Diagrams“
The chart window represents the most important val es like temperat res,
p mp-, reg lator- and fan data graphically. The desired val es can be
selected below. Time periods can be marked and extended or red ced by
mo se wheel within the diagram.
9. Tro ble shooting
9.1. Reset of the p mp val es
There are two ways to p t the p mp into its delivery state. This makes sense if
the p mp no longer works correctly or yo have set nonsensical val es in the
aq as ite and have stored them into the p mp.
Yo can reset the p mp by software via the aq as ite software by selecting
the men item "set factory defa lts" in the aq as ite software from the men
"aq astream XT".
The p mp can alternatively be reset also directly by a j mper, what at serio s
problems is recommendable. To do that t rn off the comp ter and p t the
enclosed j mper on the connection "deaeration / ext. temp". Switch on the
comp ter again and remove the j mper.
