Yourheatershouldbehorizontallyorverticallysitedallowingsufficient
spaceforpipeconnectionsandwiring,itshouldbesecurelyscrewedtoa
baseorwall.
Theheatershouldbeinstalledatalowpointinthefiltrationsystem.
Itmustbepositioneddownstreamof(after)thefilterandupstreamof
(before)anydosingorotherwatertreatmentplant.(seeFig.2)
Itisessentialthattheplumbingconnectingtoandfromtheheater
hasaminimumsizeof1¼”.
Toassistcorrectairpurgingandtoensuretheheaterremainscompletely
fullofwaterduringoperation,thereturnpipewhichcarriesthewaterback
tothepondmustincorporateasafetyloopor‘kick‐up’inthepipeasclose
aspossibletotheheater(seefig3).
NOTE:Whencouplingtoaflexiblehoseasafetyloopcansimplybe
createdbyroutingthehoseupandoveranobstacle.Rememberto
usehoseclampstosecurelyfastenallconnections.
Theheatermustbeinstalledwithinadryweatherproofenclosure.
CAUTION!Iftheheaterisnotusedduringwintermonthsitmustbedrainedto
preventfrostdamage.
IMPORTANT!Allheatershavebeensuppliedpre‐wiredwithapower
cordandrequireaGroundFaultInterruptionCircuit(GFIC)outletfor
safetyprotection.

Iftheheaterishardwiredintoapowerbox,itmustbeinstalledin
accordancewiththecountry/regionalrequirementsandregulations.In
anyeventtheworkmustbecarriedoutbyaqualifiedelectrician,whowill
provideacertificateofconformityuponcompletionofthework.
Itisessentialthatthepowersupplytotheheaterisprotectedby
aGFIC (Ground Fault Interruption Circuit).Ifindoubtconsulta
qualifiedElectrician.
Theflowrateofwaterintotheheatermustnotexceed17,000litresper
hour(17m3/h/4500USgallons/hour)Ahigherflowratewillrequirethe
installationofabypasstopreventdamagetotheheaterelements.The
heaterwillnotoperatewithaflowratebelow1,000litres/houror10US
gallons/hour

Uponcompletionoftheinstallation,runthewater‐circulatingpumpto
purgethesystemandheaterofair(i.e.removeanytrappedairinthe
systemandheater).TIP:Youcanencourageairoutoftheheaterflowtube
bygentlyelevatingtheexitportoftheheaterwhenthepumpisrunning.
Theheaterwillonlyswitch‘On’(redlightindicatorilluminated)whenthe
followingcriteriaaremetie:

Watercirculatingpumpis‘On’deliveringinexcessof1,000litres/
hour(1m3/hor220gallons/hour)
·
Requiredtemperatureissettoahighervaluethanthewater
temperature.
Usefuladvice:
Toreducerunningcostsandspeeduptheheatingprocess,
insulatethepondwhereverpossible.
Observethemainelectricitymeterwhentheheaterison(ie:redlight‘On’)
andthenobserveitagainwhentheredlightisoff.Thetestshouldshow
thatthemeterisrecordingmoreelectricitybeingusedbytheheaterwhen
theredlightis‘On’.
Itisimpossibleforanelectricheatertowasteenergy,ifitis
drawingpowerthenthatpowerwillbeturnedintoheatthatwillbe
transferredtothewater.
Ifamoreaccuratetestisrequiredtoconfirmthatyourheaterisdelivering
thespecifiedheatoutput,twoelectricitymeterreadingswillneedtobe
takenfromthepropertiesmainelectricitymeter,withanexactonehour
interval(ie:takeonemeterreadingandthenasecondreadingexactlyone
hourlater)thenbysubtractingthefirstreadingfromthesecondreading
thenumberofunits(kilowatts/kW)consumedcanbecalculated.

NotethatyourheaterisalsoratedinkWhours.Thepondpumpandheater
willneedtoberunningcontinuouslyduringthetest(ie:withtheheater
redlight’On’)Toavoidinaccurateresultswhenperformingthistest,itis
importanttorefrainfromusingotherhighcurrentconsumingappliances
intheproperty(suchastumbledryer,showers,cookersetc).
Alargeaquaticpumpof1horsepowerwilldrawlessthan1‐kWinaone
hourperiod.Theconclusionofthetestshouldprovethatforexample
3‐kWheateranda½horsepowerpumpwilldrawbetween3.3‐kW~3.5‐
kWinonehour.Itisimpossibleforanelectricheatertowasteenergy,ifit
isdrawingpowerthenthatpowerwillbeturnedintoheatthatwillbe
transferredtothewater.
HEATERWILLNOTSWITCH‘ON’
Inmostcasesthiswillbetheresultofoneofthefollowingpointsnot
beingmet.
Possiblecause1:Therequiredtemperaturehasbeenachieved.
Toconfirm:increasethesetpointvaluebyturningthetemperatureset
pointdialtoavaluegreaterthanthecurrentwatertemperature.
Possiblecause2:The‘Thermalsafetycut‐out’hastripped.
Remedy:
Removebuttoncoverandpressredbuttontore‐set(seefig4)
Ifapositiveclickisfelt,thecauseofthetrippingmustbeinvestigatedand
couldbecausedbyadebrisbuild‐uporairpockettrappedinsidetheflow
tubeoftheheater.

Possiblecause3:Insufficientflow.
Ifusingacartridgefilter:Confirmthisbyrunningthesystemwiththe
cartridgeremovedfromyourpumpandfilterunit,thiswillsupplythe
heaterwiththemaximumflowrateyourunitiscapableof.Iftheheater
thenswitches’On’(ie:redlight’On’)ablockedcartridgecanbeconfirmed
tobethecause.Thecartridgeshouldbecleanedorreplaced.
Ifusingasandfilter:Checkthepressureindicatoronyoursandfilterand
backwashifnecessary.
Note:Insomecasesthe‘Thermalsafetycut‐out’trippingandalow
flowratecanbelinkedie:whenafilterbecomeschokedaircanbe
drawnintothefiltrationsystemandbecometrappedinsidethe
heater,socausingthethermalcut‐outtotrip.
THEFLOWTUBEDOESNOTFEELWARM
Duetothehighefficiencyofyourelectricheaternowarmthshouldbe
detectablefromtheflowtubeoftheheater.
Themostlikelycausesoftheflowtubefeelingwarmare:‐
Possiblecause1:Theheaterhasbeenpositionedindirectsunlight.
Possiblecause2:Anairpocketistrappedinsidetheheaterparticularlyifthe
flowtubefeelswarmeratthehighestpoint(asairrises).
THEWATERENTERINGMYPONDDOESNOTFEELMUCHWARMER
Thetemperaturegainofthewaterafterithaspassedthroughtheheater
willbedirectlyproportionaltothevolumeofwaterbeingpumpedin
relationshiptothepoweroutputoftheheater.
Forexample:
A6‐kWheater,whenconnectedtoa4,000litre/hour
(4m3/h)pump,willproducealiftintemperatureofapproximately1.2°C
(almostundetectabletothehumanhand)however,asthewaterbeing
heatedisre‐circulatedfromasinglebodyofwater,thetimerequiredto
heatitremainsunaffectedbythevolumeofflow.Apopularmisconception
isthatslowingdowntheflowratewillspeeduptheheatingprocess.
