OldSovietmadeprismshadtwowindows
(see pos. 3onpicture)forthefilm speed,
allowingthespeedtobesetinoldGOSTor
European DINunits.
Themeteredprismisinno wayautomatic,or
coupledtothecamera,soall settingsmustbe
setinto thecameramanuallyand separately.
To controlthebattery,turntheswitch5to
rightposition КБ (batterycontrol).You
shouldsee thelighton indicator6.
Ifyou notsee–changethebatteryorclear
thecontactson thebatterycapsule.
To turn OFF– in middleposition ВЫКЛ.
1. Batteries. TheTTLprismscurrentlymake
use3pieces1.5-volt button cellswithplastic
adapter.Thechoicesare.theS-76 silver
oxidecell and theLR-44Alkalinecells. The
silver oxidecellsare preferableduetotheir
superiorpowercurve,resultinginalonger
accuratelife.
Thebatteriesmustbeinstalledintothecavity
withthe+,orpositivesidefacingtowards the
cover.
2. Using thesmall knob 4inthecenterofthe
calculatordial,setinthefilm speedinsoviet
ОСТ system, i.e. 130.
3. Withoutdisturbingthefilm speedsetting,
rotatethethinsilverring2withthefstop
sequence on it until themaximumaperture of
thelens you will beusing isalignedwiththe
redarrowon thefilm speedportion ofthe
dial.Thisisnecessarytogetcorrectexposure
results.
Forexample.ifyou are usingthe80mm f2.8
lens, the2.8 markingmustbealignedwith
theredarrow.Ifyou are goingtoswitchtoa
lens withalarger orsmaller maximum
aperture,theappropriatemaximumaperture
mustbesettotheredarrowtoobtainthe
correctexposure results.
Having accomplishedthis, theTTLprismis
setup forusewiththefilm and lens you will
beusing.
4. Themeteringareaisa30mm highby
50mm wideovalinthecenter ofthefocusing
screen,so it iscenterweighted.Shouldyou
beshootingtheKiev-60in6x4.5cmformat,
themeteringarea coversalmosttheentire
6x4.5 framegivingsomethingakintoafull
framemeteringarea.
5. To takeameter reading,turntheswitch
button 5on theposition ON/ВКЛ.(left
position).Twoother pointisOFF/ВЫКЛ
(middle) and batterycontrol/ КБ (right)
After turning ONinsideofprismyou’ll see
lightindicator.Rotatethelarge,outer knurled
dial1on therightorlefthand sideofthe
prismuntil bothlightsare visibleatthetop of
thefocusingscreen. Ifbothlightscannotbe
gottentolightup atthesametime,gofor
slightoverexposure byhaving therighthand
lightlit up. Theexposure calculatordialis
nowsetsoyou canselecttheexposure
settingcombination you desire.
NOTE:Don’tforgetto turn it off.
6. Decidewhichshutterspeedand fstop
combination youwishtousefromthe
calculatordialand settheshutter speedand f
stop settings onto thecamera and lens.
7. Animportantnote.Theprismscomewith
arubber eyecup. Itisstronglyadvisedthat
thesebeused, aslightenteringtheeyepiece
oftheprismcanadverselyaffectthemeter
readingcausingincorrectexposure settings.
