purchaser in the event the product fails to conform to the limited warranty. Manufacturer’s

Introduction
Congratulations! on the purchase of your new Archos DEx-CDRW. This rewritable DEx-
CDRW will allow you to record, write and play quickly and easily.
USB external devices feature PLUG AND PLAY. That means that your drive can be
connected and disconnected while the computer is running. Computers equipped with USB
ports automatically recognize and install USB peripherals that are physically connected to them.
This manual will help you to:
•Install USB driver on normal USB connection
•Install USB driver on USB 2.0 connection
•Install Nero Burning Rom software
•Install InCD Burning ROM software
•Learn how to duplicate CD, make an Audio/Data CD.

1. Install the Hardware
•Connect the USB cable to the connector at the back of the DEx-CDRW.
•Plug in the power cable into the Power Socket at the back of your DEx-CDRW.
•Plug AC/DC power cable into an electrical outlet.
2. Install USB Driver (USB 2.0 connection)
2.1. For Windows 98 SE users
Turn on your computer and Insert the USB cable to an open USB port on your
computer. Follow steps listed below to complete installation:
1. New hardware found: USB Cable window flashes on the screen, then
2. Add New Hardware Wizard window will help you to install the new drive.
This Wizard searches for new drivers for: USB Cable, click Next.
3. What do you want the Windows to do?,
Select Search for the best driver for your device (Recommended).
Click Next..
4. Where do you want Windows to search for the driver files?
Check Floppy disk drives box, and uncheck all other boxes.
Insert the DEx-CDRW diskette driver in the floppy drive, then click Next.
5. Windows is now ready to install the best driver for this device. […]. The
location of the driver is A:\
Click Next.
6. To close Wizard, click Finish.

2.2. For Windows ME, Windows 2000 & Windows XP users
Turn on your computer and Insert the USB cable to an open USB port on your computer.

Note concerning USB Driver installation for Windows ME -2000 & XP:
The Windows USB mass Storage driver will be installed automatically. Follow steps listed below
for installation:
•Turn on your computer and wait for Windows to finish booting.
•Insert USB cable to an open USB port on your computer. Follow steps listed below to
complete installation:
Found new hardware wizard will pop up. Windows will install
USB Storage Adapter,
USB Mass Storage Device,
IDE-CD R/RW…Device, and
CD-ROM Drive using standard Windows drivers.
No driver files will be needed from Archos.
IMPORTANT:
•In order to use the Archos Dex-CDRW properly, you must update the USB drive.
•Follow steps listed below to complete installation:
1. Go to Control Panel | System, click on Hardware tab and Device Manager…
Double click on Universal Serial Bus Controllers,
double click on USB Mass Storage Device,
click on Driver tab,
click on Update Driver…
2. Welcome to the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard , click Next.
3. This Wizard upgrades drivers for the following hardware device: USB Mass
Storage Device. "What do you want the Wizard to do?
4. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device. (Recommended).
5. Click Next.
6. Where do you want Windows to search for the driver files?
Put the check mark on Floppy disk drives box, and uncheck all other boxes;
7. Insert Dex-CDRW installation diskette driver in floppy drive and click Next.
8. Windows found a driver that is closer match for this device than you
current driver. located in A:\Click Next.
9. To complete the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard –USB Storage Adapter V2, click
Finish.

3. Install the Nero Burning ROM Software (with Windows
98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000 & XP)
Note: In order to be able to install Nero under or Windows 2000, you must be logged on as
administrator.
1. Close all Windows programs.
2. Press firmly on the Eject button. Wait for the Dex-CDRW tray door to open.
3. Insert the Nero CD software into the Dex-CDRW drive, and press Eject button to
close tray door.
4. The setup program is automatically launched. The installation Wizard will
appear. To continue, click on Next..
If the software installation program does not start automatically, select the
program Setup.exe (in the Start menu under Run | Browse in the root directory
of the Nero CDrom disk).
5. Read the license agreement carefully. If you agree to conditions, then click on” I
accept the terms of the license agreement”. Click on Next to continue.
6. Choose how you wish to install the program. The following ways are possible:
Typical (with all available features),
Compact (with a minimum number that you require),
Custom (with only those features that you require),
7. Click on Installation to start installing the program.
8. Click on End to complete installation.
9. Reboot your computer.

4. Make a Duplicate CD Copy
Click on Start > Programs > ahead Nero > Nero-Burning Rom.
Click on Wizard button, if not yet selected.
1. Select Copy a CD, click Next.
2. Select the Dex-CDRW as the source drive.
3. Uncheck Fast copy (on-the-fly), click Next.
4. Press eject button to open tray door of Dex-CDRW.
5. Insert the source CDROM with printed label facing up into Dex-CDRW. Press
eject button to close tray door.
6. Select Burn, click Burn.
7. Insert a blank CDRW to finish the burning process.
NOTE: Refer to User’s Manual located on the Nero
CDROM for additional information on how to
make a CD copy.

5. Make a Data CD
1. Click on Start > Program > Ahead Nero > Nero-Burning Rom.
2. Click on Wizard button, if not yet selected
3. Select Compile a new CD and click Next.
4. Select Compile a new data-CD and click Next.
5. Press eject button on DEx-CDRW to open tray door, insert a blank CD-R or CDRW
with printed label facing up, press Eject button on DEx-CDRW to close tray door.
6. Click Finish.
7. Drag and drop files from File Browser to ISO1 Window on the left.
8. Click on Burn button to start burning.

6. Make an Audio CD
You can create your own audio CDs in two ways. The difference between the two ways is the
data source.
With the first method, you combine the audio data directly from one or several CDs.
With the other method, the data to be written onto the CD is already on the hard disk.
6.1. Compiling audio CD from one or several CDs
1. Start the Nero program, Activate Compile a new CD and click on Next.
2. Activate Audio CD and click on Next.
3. Click on Finish in to Info window to continue with the next step. The Audio
compilation window opens.
4. Select the Tracks you want to copy, drag and drop them into the compilation window
on the left.
5. Assign a CD name for the source CD.
6. Ready to burn. Click on Burning CD icon.
7. You can start burning with and without a prior test run or you can only simulate the
burning operation. Select which burning operation you wish to use.
8. Click on burn to start burning.
9. Insert an empty CD into the CD burner and click on OK.
6.2. Compiling Audio CD from a hard disk
1. Start the Nero program, Activate Compile a new CD and click on Next.
2. Activate Audio CD and click on Next.
3. Click on Finish in to Info window to continue with the next step. The ISO compilation
window opens
4. Select the files (mp3, wav…) you want to copy, drag and drop them into the
compilation window on the left.
5. Make sure that the total size of all of the data does not exceed the blank CD capacity
6. Ready to burn. Click on Burning CD icon
7. You can start burning with and without a prior test run or you can only simulate the
burning operation. Select which burning operation you wish to use.
8. Click on burn to start burning
9. Insert an empty CD into the CD burner and click on OK.

6.3. Compiling Audio CD directly from the DEx-CDRW
1. Click on Start > Programs > ahead Nero > Nero-Burning Rom.
2. Click on Wizard button, if not yet selected.
3. Choose Compile a new CD
4. Select Audio, click Next.
4. Click Finish.
5. Press eject button to open tray door and insert an audio CD with
printed label facing up into DEx-CDRW. Press eject button to close
tray door.
6. Select the desired track(s) from the file Browser, click on CD Recorder,
select Save Track. The Save Track windows will appear, showing all the
tracks available on the chosen drive
Note: Use the CTRL key and the left mouse button to add individual
tracks; or chose all of them by clicking on Select All.
7. Choose the path where you wish to save the files and click on Go.

8. Select the DEx-CDRW as the drive, and click OK.
9. Select the desired track(s), and click on Save Under File Browser,
go to C:\Windows\Temp, select the
desired track(s), drag and drop them into the Audio1
windows, and click on Write-CD.
10. Click WRITE button to start burning process.

7. Install / Using the InCD Burning ROM Software
1. Press firmly on the eject button. Wait for the DEx-CDRW to open tray.
2. Insert Nero CD ROM software into the tray. Press Eject button again on the DEx
CDRW to close tray. Wait until auto run starts.
3. Choose InCD/Packet-Writing installation. If software installation program does not
start automatically, click Start, click Run, and Browse to the Setup.exe file on
CDROM drive.
NOTE: In order to use the InCD/Packet-Writing feature,
you must use a CDRW media.
4. With the tray door open (by pressing the eject button), insert a blank CDRW media
with printed label facing up. Press Eject button to close tray
5. "Do you want to format the CD-RW disc in the drive as Packet Writing for
InCD,” select Complete, and click on Format.
6. After the completion, open Windows Explorer, drag the desired files or folders, and
drop into the DEx-CDRW drive icon.
NOTE: The User’s Manual is located on the Nero CDROM at
…/Nero/Manual/Eng/UsLetter/Nero.doc or Nero.pdf.
