watertemperaturewithanaccuratethermometersincethe
toleranceofwatertemperature-regulatingdevicesvaries.

Installation of Portable Spa
HAVEYOURELECTRICIANREADBEFOREINSTALLATIONBE-
GINS!
Pleasecontactaqualiedelectriciantowireyourspa.
AllAriesSpashaveaHighcurrentGFCI(ground-faultcurrentinterrupt-
er)builtin.Astandardcircuitbreakerisrequiredinyourcircuitsupply
panel.Do not use a GFCI-type breaker in your supply panel.
AllAriesSpasrequirea220voltsupplycircuitconsistingoffourwires.
Use#6AWGwire(copperconductorsonly).
Allmetalcomponentsoftheequipmentassemblyhavebondinglugs.
Theselugsshouldbeconnectedtogetherwithaminimum#6AWGcop-
perconductor.
Allspaequipmentpacksrequireadedicatedbreaker.Thebreakershould
be50amp,(60ampfordouble-jetpumpsystem)singlephase,220volt
service,consistingoffourwires;twohotwires,aneutralwireanda
groundwire.Wiresizeisdeterminedbylengthofrun,butgenerally#8
wirefor0-50feetand#6wirefor51+feetisrecommended.Thismight
vary,dependingonlengthofrunorotherunforeseenfactors.Any varia-
tion from this service will void warranty.
Theequipmentpackageshouldbeinstalledsuchthattheheaterhousing
isinalevel,horizontalpositionandthebottomoftheequipmentisap-
proximatelyfourinchesabovegroundlevelandprotectedfromwaterand
otherelements.
AllAriesSpasaredesignedtobepermanentlyconnectedunits,consisting
ofpumps,heater,lightxtureandSpa-SideControl.
Itistheresponsibilityofthespaownertoinsurethatelectricalconnec-

tionsaremadebyaqualiedelectricianinaccordancewiththeNational
ElectricCodeandanylocalandStateElectricalCodesinforceatthetime
ofinstallation.Theseconnectionsmustbemadeinaccordancewiththe
wiringdiagramsfoundinsidethecontrolboxandthewiringdiagrams
withinthismanual.Thisequipmenthasbeendesignedtooperateon60
Hzalternatingcurrentonlyandat240Volts.Makesurethatpowerisnot
appliedwhileperforminganyelectricalinstallation.Acopperbondinglug
hasbeenprovidedontheelectricalequipmentpacktoallowconnection
tolocalgroundedpoints.Thegroundwiremustbeatleast8gaugesolid
copperandmustbeconnectedsecurelytoagroundedmetalstructure.
Replacement of an existing Equipment Pack
Followtheinstructionsabovefortheequipmentinstallationsothatthe
propersettingsaremadeforcurrentandvoltagethatthespawasconnect-
edto.Duetothefrequentupdatesinequipmentmodels,pleaseconsultan
AriesSpatechnicianifthereareanydifferencesincomponentconnec-
tions.
Location
It is very important that your spa be located on a solid, level
foundation.
Alledspaisveryheavy(upto5,000lbs.),withmostoftheweightrest-
ingonthecenterportion.Withoutrmsupportforthebottomofthespa,
settlingcanoccur,causingtheoutsideedgeor“lip”ofthespatocarrythe
weight-load,pullingthespaoutofshape.Cement blocks are not accept-
able, unless they are concreted into place.
A4”thickconcretepadisthedesiredfoundation.Ifabalconyordeckis
used,itmustsupportatleast75poundspersquarefoot.
Aries Spas will not be responsible for damages incurred on spas
placed on other than level, solid surfaces.
Ifyourspaislocatednearwatersprinklers,adjustorrelocatethemsothat

waterwillnothitthesidingofthespa.
Gatesgivingaccesstothespashouldbeself-closingandself-lockingfor
safety.
Operation
Initial Start-up
Please read this section fully before attempting initial start-up of
your spa.
Always turn the thermostat(s) and electric power off when lling or
draining the spa, and always fully open any valves that could restrict
water ow to and from the heater element.
Filling your Spa
Yourspashouldbelledwithwatertoapproximatelythemiddleofthe
skimmer(toidentify,seepictureofskimmerinthe“SuctionsFittings”
sectionofthismanual).Thewaterlevelshouldneverbebelowtheregu-
larorwhirlingjets,butshouldnevercoveranyneckjets,therecoveryjet
(see“Jets”sectionforpicture)orbuilt-inpillows.Do not overll spa.
Starting your Circulating Pump
Turnonyourhomecircuitbreakerandservicedisconnect(ifapplicable).
Pushthered“reset”buttonontheGFCI,locatedontherightsideofthe
blackequipmentbox.Within5seconds,thepurgecyclewillcomeon,
runningthejetsandblowerfor
30seconds.Thenthecirculation
pumpwillcomeon.If,withina
fewseconds,waterisnotobserved
owingfromReturnJets(see“Jets”
sectionfordescription),liftthelid
thatcoversyourTopLoadingPres-
sureFilter,andreleaseanytrapped

airbyturningtheBleedValve(thesmallvalvelocatedonthelterlid)
counterclockwiseuntilyouhearareleaseofair.Do not totally unscrew or
remove the Bleed Valve. Do not remove the black locking ring of the lter
lid at this time or serious damage could occur. OpeningtheBleedValve
willallowanytrappedair
tobepurgedandsome
gurglingorbubblesmay
comefromtheReturn
Jets.Onceasteadystream
ofwaterstartsspurting
fromtheBleedValve,
retightenbyturningina
clockwisedirectionuntil
hand-tight.(Formore
informationontheBleed
Valve,seethe“TopLoad-
ingPressureFilter”sectionofthismanual.)
OncetheCirculatingPumpmotorisrunningandwateriscirculating
properly,youshouldbeabletoobservewaterand/orbubblescoming
fromthetwoCirculatingJets(oneregular-sized,onesmall)usually
locatednearyourstepsand/orthelight.Thisindicatesthatthewateris
circulatingproperly.
Ifnowaterowisobserved,dothefollowing:
1. ListentomakesurethattheCirculatingPumpmotorisrun-
ning.
2. MakesurethattheKnife(“T”shaped)Valvesareopen.These
valvesarelocatedoneithersideoftheblackcontrolbox.They
areopenedifthehandlesareextendedasfaroutastheywill
go.Whenopened,youshouldbeabletoseeeithertheexposed
silverrodoraredretainerclip.
3. RechecktheBleedValveonthelterlidtomakesureyouhave

releasedalltrappedair.Sometimesdrainingasmallamountof
waterfromtheHoseBib(locatedbytheEquipmentPack)is
alsohelpfulforreleasinganairlock.
Ifyouhavetriedalltheabove,andthereisstillnovisiblewaterow
comingfromtheCirculationJets,STOP! Pushtheblack“Test”buttonon
theGFCItoturnspaoffandcalltheAriesSpasFactoryimmediately!Do
notgoontothenextsteporseriousdamagemayoccurtoyourspaequip-
mentpack.
OnceyouaresurethattheCirculatingPumpmotoriscirculatingthewa-
ter,proceedtothenextsection.
Equipment Pack Controls
Power Switch (GFCI)
YourAriesSpaEquipmentPackisprovidedwithaground-faultcir-
cuitinterrupter(GFCI).ThisGFCImaylookand/oroperatesimilarto
oneyoumayhaveinyourhome,butknowthatitisahighlyspecial-
izeddeviceexclusivetoyourAriesSpa.Itislocatedontherightsideof
theEquipmentPack(notonthefaceoftheequipmentpack).Electrical
problemswithinthespaequipmentaremonitoredbythisdevice.Ifany
potentialshocksituationdoesoccur,thisdevicewillinterruptthepower
supply,therebyremovingthepotentialofdangertoequipmentand/orhu-
manoccupants.
YoucanusethisGFCIasasystem“On-Off”switch.
GFCI Breaker (Test) and (Reset) Buttons
TomakesurethattheGFCIbreakerisoperatingproperly,presstheblack
buttonlabeled“Test”.Ifoperatingnormally,theEquipmentPackwill
shutoff,andtheredbuttonwillpopoutandrequireresetting.Thesame
willhappenifwatercomesintocontactwiththecomponents.
Toreset,pushthered“Reset”button.Iftheequipmenthasbeenwet,and
theredbuttonimmediatelypopsoutagain,waitasufcientamountof

timeforallmoisturetoevaporate,andtrytoresetagain.Ifitcontinues
topopout,callyourspadealerorAriesFactory.(Ifyourngersarelarge
andyouhavetroubleresetting,tryusingtheeraserendofapencil).
Spa-Side Controls
YourAriesSpaequipmentiscomposedofstate-of-the-artmicroproces-
sorcircuitry,similartothatofahomecomputer.Alluser-functionsand
operationalchangesaredoneviatheTopSidespacontrol.
Setting the Desired Temperature
TheThermostatcanbesettotemperatureswithinarangefrom70˚
through106˚asdescribedbelow.Pushandholdeitherthe“up”or
“down”arrowbuttonfor
afewseconds.The“ac-
tual”watertemperature
inthedisplaywillbe
replacedwiththe“de-
sired”temperature,and
thenumberwillbegin
toincreaseordecrease,
dependingonwhichar-
rowyouaredepressing.
Whenyougettoyour
newdesiredtemperature,simplyreleasethearrowbutton.Thespawill
nowbeginadjustingthewatertothattemperatureandmaintainitthere.
Usethedigitalreadoutandyourpersonalpreferencesasaguideinadjust-
ingthetemperature.
WARNING: Prolonged immersion in hot water may
induce hyperthermia. The causes, symptoms and effects of
hyperthermia may be described as follows: Hyperthermia
occurs when the internal temperature of the body reaches
a level several degrees above the normal body temperature
of 37˚C (98.6˚F). The symptoms of hyperthermia include:
drowsiness, lethargy and an increase in the internal

temperature of the body. The effects of hyperthermia include:
◊ Unawareness of impending hazard
◊ Failure to perceive heat
◊ Failure to recognize the need to exit the spa
◊ Physical inability to exit the spa
◊ Fetal damage in pregnant women
◊ Unconsciousness and danger of drowning
WARNING-Theuseofalcohol,drugsormedicationcangreatlyincrease
theriskoffatalhyperthermia.
Digital Temperature Readout / Adjustment Readout
TheSpa-SideControlhasadigitalreadoutofthespa'swatertemperature.
(Itisnotuncommonforthetemperatureshowntovaryfromtheactual
watertemperaturebyafewdegrees.)Thisreadoutalsodisplaysthede-
siredtemperatureasyoureset(seebelow).
Increase (Up) and Decrease (Down) Arrows
Toincreasethewatertemperature,pushandholdthe“uparrow”button
(redtriangle).Todecreasethetemperature,pushandholdthe“downar-
row”button(bluetriangle).Asyouholdthebuttonstoadjust,thedigital
temperaturereadout,whichpreviouslyshowedtheactualwatertempera-
ture,willtemporarilyshowthe“desiredtemperature”youareadjusting
to.Oncethedesiredtemperatureisdisplayed,releasetheadjustment
arrow.Thedisplaywillreverttothe“actual”temperature.
Function Buttons
“Jets” Button
Thisbuttonoperatesallthedifferenttypesofhydrotherapymassagejets
inyourspa.PressthebuttonandtheJetPumpwillturnon.Pressagain
andtheJetPumpwillturnoff.
Onspasequippedwith2JetPumps,therewillbeanadditional“Jets”
Button,marked“JET2”.

Whenthejetpump(s)areturnedon,aninternaltimerinthecontrolbox
willautomaticallyturnthejetpump(s)offafter30minutes.Thisisasafe-
tyfeaturethatgreatlylengthensthelifeofthejetmotorsandeliminates
unnecessaryuseofelectricity.Ifyouarestillusingthespaandthejet
pump(s)shutoffwhileyouwantthemon,simplypushthe“Jet”button(s)
andthepumpwillcomebackonforanother30minutecycle.
“AUX” Button
The“AUX”ButtonoperatestheAirBlowerPump.Theairblowerforces
airthroughtheAirInjectorFittings.Thesearettingslocatedinthespa
seatsorontheverticalwallundertheseats,andaredesignedtointroduce
airintothespaunderpressure.(Somemodelsresemblesaltshakertops.)
Pushthe“AUX”ButtonandtheAirBlowerwillcomeon.Pushitagain
andtheBlowerwillshutoff.
Thespacontrollerboxwillau-
tomaticallyturnthebloweroff
after30minutes.Thisisasafety
featurethatgreatlyextendsthe
lifeoftheblowerandeliminatesunnecessaryuseofelectricity.Ifyouare
usingtheAirBloweranditturnsoffbutyouwantittobeon,simplypush
the“AUX”ButtonandtheBlowerwillcomebackonagainforanother
30minutecycle.
“Light” Button
The“Light”ButtonoperatestheSpaLight,whichisusuallylocatedin
thestepareaofthespa.Pushthebuttononceandthelightwillturnon.
Pushitagainandthelightwillturnoff.
TheRaydiance®Lightisanoption.AspecialtyLEDbulbreplacesthe
standardlightbulb.Thislighthas8differentcolorsincludingfade/strobe.
ThestandardlightcanlaterbereplacedbytheRaydiance®light,ifde-

sired.
TheRaydiance®lightisoperatedasfollows:Pushthe“Light”button
toturnonoroffasyouwouldthestandardlight.Aslongasthelight
wasleftonformorethan5seconds,thenexttimeyouturniton,itwill
remainthesamecolorasitwaslasttimeyouusedit.Tochangethecolor,
turnthelightoffwithin5secondsofturningiton,thenimmediatelyturn
itonagain.Itwillcycletothenextcolor.Repeatuntilyougettothecolor
ofyourchoice.Thelastcoloronthecycleisfade/strobe.Thelightstarts
bystrobing,thenfadesfromonecolortoanother,cyclingthroughall7of
theothercolors.
ThebulbforthestandardorRaydiance®lightiseasilyreplaceablefrom
theundersideofthespa,insidetheequipmentarea,accessedbythe
equipmentareadoor.Thebulbisa12V9wattlow-voltageoutdoorlight-
ingtypeofbulbfoundatmosthardwarestores.
“INV” Button (Only on models equipped with double jet pumps)
Thisfeatureallowsthetemperaturetoreadright-side-facingwhenlook-
ingatitfrominsidethespa.Normally,thetemperaturedisplayreads
right-side-facingwhenviewingfromoutsidethespa.
Toinvertthedisplay,pressthe“INV”Button,Toreturntostandarddis-
playpressthebuttonagain.
L.E.D. Indicator Light
“Heat” Light
Anytimetheheaterisrunning,thislightwillashjustbelowandtothe
rightofthetemperaturereadoutonthetopsidecontrol.Whenthewater
reachesthedesiredtemperature,thelightwillswitchoff.
Topside Control Lock Mode
TolocktheTopsideControl,pressandholdtheredheat"up"arrowand
thejetbuttonsimultaneouslyuntilthewordLOCappears.Tounlock,
repeat,holdingdowntheredheat"up"arrowandthejetbuttonsimulta-

neouslyforabout5seconds,untiltheLOCdisplayisremoved.
Note: While in "LOC" mode, only the light function will operate.
Special Features
Auto-Purge Cleansing
YourAriesSpaisequippedwithanAuto-PurgeSystemthattwicedaily
turnsonallpumpsfor30seconds.Thisautomaticushingoflinesisim-
portanttotheoverallsanitizationofthewater,eliminatingstagnantwater
inunusedplumbinglines.Thisisanautomaticfeatureandtakesnoeffort
onyourpart.Ittakesplacetwicedaily,basedonthemomenttheinternal
clockwaslastreset(seebelow).
Internal Clock
Intheefforttoimproveandsimplifytheoperationsofspas,wehave
replacedthetraditionalhard-to-settimeclockwithaninternaltime-me-
teringdevice.Itiscomputerized,andrequiresnosetting.Itisa12hour
clock,whichcontrolsAuto-PurgingandCustomizedCirculationModes.
Thisclockdivideseachday(24hours)intotwo12-hourperiods.
Thestarttimeisreseteverytimethepowerisrestoredtothespaafterbe-
ingturnedoff,regardlessofwhetherthespawasmanuallyturnedoffor
inadvertentlylostpower.Whenthepowerisrestored,theInternalClock
startsat"0"andgoesto"12",thenrestartsat"0".TheAutoPurgewill
happeneachtimetheclockreaches"0".TheCirculationMode(below)
alsobeginsthen.Starttimeoftheclockismostlyinsignicantexcept
forthestarttimeoftheCustomCirculationMode,unlessaspecicAuto
Purgetimeisdesired.
Customized Circulation Modes
AriesrecommendsleavingtheCirculationModesetin24HourMode,
exceptduringseverelyhotweatherconditions.Inareaswithextremely
hotsummertemperatures,heataccumulatesinthespawater.Sunlightand
hotairtemperaturescansendspawatertemperaturessoaring.Tocombat
thisproblemaspecialCustomizedCirculationModeisavailable.

Warning: Never use the Customized Circulation Mode in
Wintertime or when freezing weather could occur. This

theLEDareaofthetopside.Thismeansthatineach12hourltercycle,
thecirculatingpumpwillrunfor12hours.(Thisisthecontinuousmode
thespaissetinwhenitleavesthefactoryanditshouldremainthisway
atalltimesunlessanexcessiveheatbuildupoccurs.)Withinasecond,the

It is recommended that when you initially set to the Customized
Circulation Mode that you do this in the evening, remembering
to turn the system off, then back on to reset start times. The
operating times will then be at night, in the cooler periods.
Freeze Protection
InanAriesContinuousCirculatingSpa,thepotentialforfreezedamageis
almostnonexistent,asmovingwaterdoesn'tquicklyfreeze,andthewater
iskeptheatedtoaminimumtemperature..WiththeadditionoftheAuto-
Purgefunction,freezedamageisveryrareandismostcommonwithspas
thathavebeendrainedforthewinter.
Aries recommends never draining a spa or leaving a spa drained at any
time of the year, especially for the winter. Regardless of draining proce-
dures used, there will always be a small amount of water remaining in the
plumbing lines. In wintertime, this water can freeze and expand, causing
serious damage to your plumbing and equipment systems. Aries Spas
does not warranty freeze-damage done to spas left drained.
Internal High Limit Switch
Yourspaequipmentpackisequippedwithaheateroverheatsensor.This
sensorprotectsyourheaterbyturningitoffincaseswherethewatertem-
peratureintheheaterhavereachedahigher-than-normalcondition.This
canhappenwhenyourlteriscloggedordirtyenoughtoslowthewater
owandwateristrappedintheheaterforlonger-than-normalperiodsof
time.
