Your KWIKtrak™ Semi-Permanent Rack is part of
a series of quality products designed specially for
home care, nursing homes and other health care
uses.
We are dedicated to serving your needs and
providing the best products available along with
training that will bring your staff maximum benet
from every Arjo product.
If a serious incident occurs in relation to this medical
device, affecting the user, or the patient then the
user or patient should report the serious incident
to the incident to the medical device manufacturer
or the distributor. In the European Union, the
user should also report the serious incident to the
Competent Authority in the member state where
they are located.

The information in this manual is crucial to the proper
use and maintenance of the Semi-Permanent Rack.
It will help protect your product as well as ensure
that it performs to your satisfaction.
Lifting and transferring a person always presents a
potential risk. This manual contains safety related
information that must be read and understood to
help prevent injuries.
WARNING: Arjo strongly advises and warns
that to avoid injuries that can be attributed to the
use of inadequate parts, only parts designated
by Arjo should be used on product and other
appliances supplied by Arjo.
WARNING: Unauthorized modications on any
Arjo product may affect its safety. Arjo will not be

lack of performance that occur as a result of any
unauthorized modication to its products.
The equipment must be installed in accordance with
these safety instructions.
Anyone installing the equipment must also have
read and understood the instructions in this manual.
If there is anything you are not sure about, contact

Do not attempt to service or repair the
Semi-Permanent Rack. If any item is defective,
contact your local Arjo vendor.

A service routine must be done on your
Semi-Permanent Rack by Arjo trained service
personnel. This will ensure it remains safe and

Intended Use
The Semi-Permanent Rack is a portable track
system to be used with Arjo ceiling lift in a homecare
setting, at nursing homes and other assisted living
centres. Patient transferring is performed under
the supervision of a trained caregiver as per the
instructions outlined in this manual.
WARNING: The Semi-Permanent Rack is
for transferring patients only. Do not use the
Semi-Permanent Rack for any other purpose.
Using this Semi-Permanent Rack outside the
scope of its intended use could lead to injuries.
Operational Life
This product is designed and tested for a useful life
of seven (7) years or 10 000 transfers —whichever
comes rst—at maximum safe working load (SWL).
It is subject to preventive maintenance as specied
in the "Care and Maintenance" section.
Time equivalence between the number of transfers
versus the number of years is explained in the
following table.

WARNING: The manufacturer cannot ensure full
safety for a product of which the life span has
been exceeded. Wear may cause the breakage
of a part and lead to a patient fall.
The life span is the safe operating time period before
a complete overhaul is required.
The following factors have an impact on the
Semi-Permanent Rack life span:
• aging of the unit;
• transfers per day;
• weight of the patient;
• maintenance frequency.
A transfer is dened as the displacement of a patient
from one point to another. A transfer cycle includes
a lifting and a descending action.
Equipment Identication
The unit’s identication number (specication,
model, serial number) appears on a silver
nameplate attached inside the track of the KWIKtrak
Semi-Permanent Rack.
General Instructions
Keep these safety instructions with the KWIKtrak
Semi-Permanent Rack at all times. Read the
assembly instructions before installing or servicing
this equipment.
WARNING: Two persons are required to carry
out this assembly safely.
Assembling the Semi-Permanent Rack without
being assisted could lead to injuries.
How to Use this Manual
To ensure the safe operation of the
Semi-Permanent Rack, read the entire manual
carefully before operating this product.
If anything is not completely understood, please
contact your local Arjo agent for more details.
Failure to comply with warnings in this manual may
result in injuries.
Keep this manual handy and refer to it as required.
Make sure that all operators are regularly trained in
the use of the product as per the information found
therein.
The Semi-Permanent Rack must be used as per
these safety instructions.
Anyone using the Semi-Permanent Rack must also
have read and understood the instructions in this
manual.

Safe Working Load
CAUTION: The Safe Working Load of the
Semi-Permanent Rack is determined by the
track, style and length, mounted on the rack (see
the table below).

WARNING: The Semi-Permanent Rack is
intended to be used for residents whose weight
is within a specied safe working load (SWL). Do
not attempt to lift more than the lowest weight
limit indicated on the following:
• the Semi-Permanent Rack see table above
• the “maximum load” label on the ceiling lift
• on the spreader bar
• on the sling.
Overloading any of these elements could lead to
a patient fall.
Important Safety Instructions
Before installing or using the Semi-Permanent Rack
always ensure to comply with the following safety
instructions:
WARNING: The assembling/disassembling
procedure must be performed by two persons.
Failure to follow this instruction may result in
serious injuries to yourself and others.
• All the parts must be used. Do not
leave any out (except plastic cap ends
according to the type of track).
• Make sure the track installation
will accept the load.
• The equipment is used by trained staff.
• All labels are legible and those that
cannot be easily read are replaced.
• The daily maintenance is carried
out before using the unit.
• Never use the Semi-Permanent Rack
system as a swing.
• Always refrain from swinging
patient sideways on the track.
Environmental Advice
When disposing of any items associated with the
product, contact local authorities for information.
Homecare Environment
Considerations
WARNING: The Semi-Permanent Rack is not
intended to be operated by children. Serious
injuries could occur.
NOTE: Rigorous cleaning should be done when
the Semi-Permanent Rack is exposed to an
animal. Pet hair trapped inside the track can
reduce the product’s performance.

CAUTION: If you are unsure of the strength or stability of the oor – do not install the Semi-Permanent Rack
– consult your local Arjo agent.
• Flooring must comply to local building code standards.
WARNING: Termites or water damages may affect the structure of the oor.
• Floor must be clear of any
dust, grease, water or any
foreign substance.
• Floor must have a slope of
less than 0.5°. See "Fig. 2" to
determine the oor slope. Use
a level or contact a contractor
if unsure of oor slope.

Semi-Permanent Rack System Requirements
Room Assessment
Before installing the Semi-Permanent Rack prepare the installation as follows:
1) Survey the room where you plan to install the Semi-Permanent Rack.
• Make sure the room meets all the specications outlined in
"Semi-Permanent Rack System Requirements" section.
2) Make sure the pick-up point will be inside the transfer zone:
• Over a bed :
approximately 915 - 1020 mm (36 - 40”) from the head of the bed.
• Over a tub:
approximately 400 - 460 mm (16 - 18”) from the end of the tub.
• Allow 1000 mm (39”) of the open area for transfer working space.
3) Determine the location for the two posts considering that
transfers should only take place between the posts of the
Semi-Permanent Rack system.

Note: The pressure plates are preassembled to the
track brackets at the factory.
1) For your convenience, make sure the assembly
complies with "Fig. 4", check for the following:
• Pressure plates are attached to the
track brackets using two M12 X 30 low
head 9 mm socket (zinc) bolts.
• Both lock washers are present on each
assembly and were placed at proper location.
• Pressure plates orientation. Plates
mate with track brackets.
2) Fasten one track bracket onto top of post, using
two M10 X 75 hex zinc bolts and corresponding
locknuts.
3) Tighten using a 17 mm socket tool or hexagonal
key. Recommended torque: 20 N·m.
4) Repeat procedure for second post.

1) Place one post perpendicular with the centre of
one leg as shown in "Fig. 5".
2) Attach one “T” plate on each side of post using
two M10 X 75 hex zinc bolts and corresponding
locknuts.
3) Tighten and secure the screws with the locknut.
Use 17 mm socket tools or hexagonal keys.
4) Tighten using a 17 mm socket tool or hexagonal
key. Recommended torque: 20 N·m.
5) Install caps on both ends of leg.
6) Repeat procedure for second post.

1) Insert one end stopper into the track lower
channel.

2) Install the track between the Track bracket and
the pressure plate onto top of rst post.

3) Make sure the track is ush with the back of the
bracket.

located inside the track bracket

Inserting the Lift into the Track
NOTE: Before proceeding to this step, make sure
that the second post is assembled and ready to
receive the track.
1) Insert the lift or portable trolley into the track.
2) Raise the track slightly to assure that the lift will
not roll back out of the track.

3) Insert the second stopper inside the track, but
do not tighten it.

1) Insert the track onto the second post assembly
following the same instructions as for the rst
post (see previous page).
2) Fasten the assembly by tightening the two bolts
located inside the track bracket. Use the two
M12 X 30 socket low head zinc screws with
appropriate lock washers.

3) Secure the end stopper in place.

4) Install a plastic cap at the of the track.
Final Adjustments
1) Reposition the end stoppers in order to prevent
the lift from hitting the posts, or to reduce the
transfer area according to your needs. (eg. if
you do not want the lift to access the left portion
of the track, secure the right stopper in the
middle of the track.
2) Stabilize the Semi-Permanent Rack by adjusting
the two legs supports. To do so, unscrew the leg
supports in order to put them in contact with the
oor.
3)
WARNING: The load must always be applied on
the large centre puck located under each leg.
The non-slip leg supports are only designed to
stabilize and balance the rack. They must not
support any direct load (see "Fig. 17").

Installing the Charger Station
This section does not apply for tracks using portable
lifts.
1) Determine the best suitable location for the lift
to be placed when it is not being used.
2) Align the bottom hooks of the charger station
clip to the lower groove on the track.
3) Push on the top portion of the charger station
clip to make it snap onto the track.
4) Route the charger cable onto the upper track
channel and connect it to an AC power plug.

Troubleshooting
Preventive Maintenance Schedule
The Semi-Permanent Rack is subject to wear and the following actions must be performed when specied
to ensure that the product remains within its original manufacturing specication.
WARNING: The points on this checklist are the minimum the manufacturer recommends. In some cases
more frequent inspections should be carried out. Continuing to use the Semi-Permanent Rack without
conducting regular inspections will seriously compromise the user's and patient’s safety. Preventive
maintenance specied in this manual can prevent accidents.
WARNING: Safety related maintenance and authorized service must be carried out by qualied
personnel, fully trained in servicing procedures by Arjo and equipped with correct tools and proper
documentation, including the parts list and service manual. Failure to meet these requirements could
result in personal injuries and / or unsafe equipment.

Inspect for evidence of external damage or missing parts.
Make sure all bolts and nuts are properly tightened.
Make sure that bases are properly adjusted.
Make sure track is properly assembled to the posts.
Make sure that all posts are straight.
Clean the inside of the tracks to ensure there is no dust or grease build-up inside the tracks.
Check to make sure that the trolleys move freely along the tracks.
WARNING: If any of the above inspection point fails, DO NOT USE the Semi-Permanent Rack until
appropriate corrective action is taken.
Annual Inspection by an Authorized Technician
The Semi-Permanent Rack must be inspected by a qualied Arjo technician on an annual basis to ensure
the proper functioning of its components, as well as the safety of the patients and care givers that use the
Semi-Permanent Rack. Please contact your local representative to make arrangements.
NOTE: If the product does not work as intended, immediately contact your local Arjo agent for support.
Cleaning
To clean the Semi-Permanent Rack, wipe it down with a damp cloth using warm water and mild detergent.
CAUTION: Do not use phenol, chlorine or any other type of solvent that may damage the nish.
To ensure a better rolling surface for the trolley wheels, clean the inside of the track every four months. To
do so, insert a damp cloth in the opening and slide it from one end of the track to the other.

to make sure that it is correctly xed onto posts.

• Is the trolley damaged? Replace trolley
