ARMA EC131 Gate Panel Assembly Instructions
Please refer the following details to Steps 1) through 11) above.
1) Upright Installation
a) Open the boxes and unwrap and set the components aside ensuring they are not
dinged or damaged in the process.
b) Carefully cut or tear the cardboard boxes along the seams and spread them out
onto a flat and level protective work surface to be used during the assembly
process.
c) Place the Top Rail on the cardboard with the Bearing Truck track facing towards
your work area.
d) Insert the three Uprights into the Upright Receivers.
2) Bottom Rail Installation
a) Position the Bottom Rail above the Uprights and carefully slide it down over the
three Uprights.
b) Check to make sure the tapped holes in the Bottom Rail are on the same side of
the Gate Panel as the tapped holes in the Top Rail.
3) Cables
a) DANGER - The ends of the swaged cables are composed of many small pin-like
wires, are very sharp and can easily puncture the skin and cause injury. Take
care to avoid contact with the sharp ends of the cable wires.
b) Unwrap the four cables and set them aside in a safe place.
c) Each of the Cables will be tensioned using a 1/2 Inch Wrench and a Screwdriver.
The Wrench will turn the nut clockwise while the Screwdriver will be inserted
though the Eye of the Eye Bolt and will prevent the Bolt from turning.
d) As the Nut is turned, the Eye Bolt will be pulled through the Gusset Hole and the
Cable tension will progressively increase.
4) Install 1st Cable
a) Insert one of the Eye Bolts through the Gusset Hole at Position 1.

b) Slide the Washer over the threaded end of the Eye Bolt and turn the nut
clockwise onto the thread.
c) Continue threading the Nut onto the Eye Bolt until it is flush with the face of the
nut or just slightly through.
d) Insert the Eye Bolt on the other end of the Cable into the Gusset Hole at Position
2.
e) Slide the Washer over the threaded end of the Eye Bolt and turn the nut
clockwise onto the thread.
f) Continue threading the Nut onto the Eye Bolt until all the loose slack in the cable
has been removed. Do not tension the cable at this time.
5) Install Remaining Cables
a) Following the procedure from Step 4 above install the remaining three cables.
b) Cable two in Position 3 and 4
c) Cable three in Position 5 and 6
d) Cable four in Position 7 and 8
e) The relationship of the nut to the end of the Eye Bolt for 3, 5 and 7 should match
Position 1(refer to Step 4).
f) The relationship of the nut to the end of the Eye Bolt for 4, 6 and 8 should match
Position 2 (refer to Step 4).
g) Do not tension the cables at this time.
6) Gate Panel repositioning
a) Carefully lift the Gate Panel and flip it over so the Bottom Rail is on the protective
carboard, and the Top Rail is leaning against a sturdy surface. This could be a
wall or even your Gate Posts.
b) DANGER - After you flip the Gate Panel it will be top-heavy. It is unsafe to
attempt to balance the Gate Panel on the Bottom Rail.
7) Installing the Cable Tension Gauge
a) Slide the 1st washer of your Tension Gauge over the cable roughly near the
middle of the cable.
b) Rotate the Tension Gauge ensuring the cable remains under the 1st washer.

c) Compress the Tension Gauge Plunger with the cable while sliding the 2nd washer
under the cable.
d) Once the 2nd washer has been moved past the cable, hook it over the cable.
e) Release the tension until the cable is secure under both washers and the
Tension Gauge Plunger is partially compressed.
8) Identifying Correct Cable Tension
a) The Cable tension is correct when the stepped plunger is flush with the plunger
housing.
b) If the step is too deep or too shallow then your cable tension needs to be
adjusted accordingly.
c) More cable tension will compress the plunger, less cable tension will release the
plunger.
d) Only the Black portion of the stepped plunger should protrude from the housing
when the correct tension has been reached.
9) Cable Tensioning
a) The Cables will be tensioned on the Top Rail side of the Gate Panel. Do not
adjust the Eye Bolt Nuts on the Bottom Rail side of the Gate Panel.
b) The supplied tension gauge will be used to monitor the cable tension as the Nut
is turned.
c) Cables should be tensioned in a systematic sequence, gradually increasing the
tension of all the cables in unison.
10) Keeping the Gate Panel Square
a) A Measuring Tape is used to check the “squareness” of the Gate Panel. The
Gate Panel must be kept as square as possible throughout the tensioning
process. Squareness is checked by taking corner-to-corner measurements
across both diagonals. If the measurements are the same across both
diagonals, then your Gate Panel is square.
b) You can bring your Gate Panel into square by increasing the tension on the
Cables that slope in the same direction as the longer of the two measurements.

1 800 371 0735 A Division Of Countermeasures Security Solutions Inc. Page | 18
c) For example, if measurement A is longer than B you should tension the Cables
that slope up and to the right. If measurement B is longer than A you should
tension the Cables that slope up and to the left.
d) The Cables should be tensioned such that the Gate Panel is kept as square as
possible (you will need to check often), each Cable adjusted a small amount in
sequence so the tension on all the Cables increases in unison.
e) Once the desired Cable tension has been reached on all the Cables you should
check for square again to make sure your Gate Panel is perfectly square. When
the A and B measurements are within 1/32 Inch of each other the Gate Panel is
acceptably square.
f) As you fine tune and approach the final tension of your Cables and squareness
of your Gate Panel, you may need to back the tension off a small amount on
some Cables as you increase tension on others.
11)Tighten Receiver Set Screws
a) Using the 7/32 Inch Hex Key, tighten the set screws that are already threaded
into the Upright Receivers on the Top Rail and Bottom Rail.
b) Insert the Hex Key into the Set Screw and turn clockwise until the backside of the
Upright is tight against the inside of the Receiver. Alternate the tightening
sequence between the bottom and top set screws.
c) Do not over tighten.
d) Once you have fully tightened all twelve set screws double check each to make
sure that none were forgotten.
Congratulations!
You have successfully assembled your ARMA Gate EC131 Panel.
