ARMA EC131 Chain Link Mesh Installation
Please refer the following details to Steps 1) through 9) above.
There is one (1) Chain Link Mesh Kit for each EC131 Gate Panel.
1) Insert 1st Tension Band
a) Open the boxes and unwrap and set the components aside ensuring they are not
dinged or damaged in the process. Make sure the bag of hardware is not
discarded with the wrapping.
b) Orient your workspace so you are on the Bearing Truck / Post side of the EC131
Gate.
c) Roll out one Chain Link Mesh section ensuring that all the links are neatly spread
out checking for kinks or stuck ends. Free up any hung-up sections until the
Mesh is flat on the ground.
d) Slide the first Tension Bar into the space between the first and second Mesh
links.
2) Position Mesh onto Gate
a) Carefully lift the Mesh section into place against the first Gate Panel and position
the Tension Bar side of the Mesh near the left most Gate Panel Upright.
b) This can be done with one person but is easier with two people.
3) Install First Offset Tension Band
a) Take half of the supplied Offset Tension Bands and Carriage Bolts and place
them in a safe place. They will be used in Step 8). The other half will be used
now.
b) Push one Tension Band over the Gate Panel Upright ensuring that the Tension
Bar and Mesh slide in between the two legs of the Tension Band.
c) You may need to spread the Tension Band to get it over the Gate Upright.

d) Once in place over the Upright, Mesh and Tension Bar, squeeze the legs with as
much force as your fingers allow closing them as tightly as possible. You may
need to use the Pliers to assist with this step.
e) Insert a Carriage Bolt through both holes in the Tension Band. Make sure the
Tension Bar is in between the Carriage bolt and the Gate Panel Upright. When
the Mesh is stretched from the other end it will pull the Tension Bar against the
Carriage Bolts.
f) Continue to squeeze the Tension Band legs together with as much force as is
necessary to have enough room to thread the Nut onto the Carriage Bolt. Do not
fully tighten the Nut at this time.
4) Install Remaining Side 1 Tension Bands
a) Following the procedure from Step 3), install the remaining Tension Bands over
the same Gate Panel Upright.
b) These should be as evenly spaced as possible. Keep in mind you may need to
slide any Tension Bands up or down slightly to get the Carriage Bolts trough the
Mesh.
5) Stretch Mesh
a) Identify the last link in the Chain Link Mesh section.
b) Using your fingers to pull on the last Link, pull the Mesh as tightly as possible
toward the other end of the Gate Panel.
c) The Mesh should overlap the Gate Panel Upright
6) Identify the Excess Mesh Links
a) Using a Tension Band for reference, stretch the Mesh as tightly as possible and
identify how many excess links in the Mesh Section need to be removed.
b) You will have the correct number of links when:
i) The Carriage Bolt will be able to be installed into the Tension Band with the
Tension Bar between it and the Gate Upright and
ii) The Mesh is adequately tight.
c) If you leave excess links in place on your Mesh, your Tension Bar will be too far
from the Carriage Bolt resulting in loose Mesh.

d) If you remove too many links from your Mesh, your Tension Bar will not be able
to be stretched deep enough into the Tension Band to clear the Carriage Bolt.
e) You will know you have identified the correct number of links to remove when
you are able to stretch the Mesh and Tension Bar so it just clears the Carriage
Bolt.
7) Remove Excess Mesh Links
a) Using Pliers, unbend both knuckled ends of the first Link to be removed.
b) Unbend the knuckled end at the top of the link the Tension Bar will bear against.
This will be the last link you wish to keep.
c) Like a corkscrew, turn and pull the free link out of the Mesh section.
d) Once free, bend the knuckle at the top of the last link you wish to keep back into
place so that the Tension Bar will slide through.
e) Discard the excess links and install the second Tension Bar into the end of the
Mesh section.
8) Install Second Side Offset Tension Bands
a) After removing any excess Mesh links, follow the procedure outlined in Steps 3)
and 4) to install the Tension Bands on the second side of the Gate Panel.
b) Remember not to fully tighten the tension Bands at this time.
9) Tighten Carriage Bolt Nuts
a) Once all the Tension Bands are installed, confirm that the Mesh section is
straight and centered.
b) Using the 1/2” Wrench or an equivalent Socket driver or Ratchet, fully tighten all
the Carriage Bolt Nuts by turning them clockwise.
c) The Nuts should be tightened until the Tension Band clamps snugly to the Mesh.
10) Repeat Steps 1) to 9) for all Gate Panels
