1DEVICE DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
1.1 Purpose of the product
DCN-15A analog interface module (short name – DCN-15A) is designed for operation
in DCN digital communication system based on DCN-2 exchange or DCN-Q4E switching
module as analogue subscriber’s equipment for interface with analogue equipment and
communication systems of various types. DCN-15A contains 15 bi-directional analog LF
lines and 60 discrete bi-directional control lines for connecting terminal devices, as well as
a digital E1 interface for connection to DCN type central exchange.
External appearance of DCN-15A is illustrated at Figure 1.
Figure 1 – External appearance of DCN-15A
Note - The manufacturer reserves the right to change the appearance of the product, which
does not affect the installation dimensions and operation of the product.
DCN-15A can be used in public address systems in metallurgical, chemical, oil refin-
ing, nuclear (including nuclear power plants), oil and gas industries and similar ones in
terms of application, as well as in transport.
DCN-15Аis installed in telecommunication racks or cabinets located in control and
office rooms. DCN-15Аoperates at temperatures from minus 5 to plus 55 °С at a relative
humidity of up to 80%.
DCN digital communication system has a flexible distributed structure in which indi-
vidual stations are connected to a single network by digital E1streams. DCN station (or
center exchange) in its turn consists of DCN-2 exchange or DCN-Q4E module, to which E1
streams are connected by DCN-16U and DCN-15A subscriber modules equipped with digi-
tal or analog subscriber interfaces. E1 streams can also be used as ISDN PRI lines for com-
munication with external telecommunication systems, or for connecting multi-channel re-
cording equipment. DCN IP gateway, which provides communication with various IP-
devices, can also operate as a station of DCN system.

Each DCN-15A is a subscriber switch with 15 bidirectional analog interfaces and al-
lows using analogue call stations as part of DCN digital communication system. Also, avail-
ability of up to 60 discrete programmable bi-directional communication lines in DCN-15A
provides creation of zonal alarm systems (up to eight zones per each channel of the analog
interface). To improve the quality of loudspeaker communication, when working with sub-
scriber equipment, an extended frequency band of audio transmission is used - from 0.3 to
6.8 kHz. DCN-15A is connected to the central exchange of DCN system via the E1 line, for
voice data and signaling transfer between the central exchange and the subscriber equip-
ment. Thus, all communication and control functions of subscriber units are implemented
in the central exchange of DCN system, and DCN-15A subscriber module does not perform
any communication functions without connecting to it.
Incorporated into DCN digital intercom system DCN-15Аprovides the following func-
tion:
−Connection via two-wire analog subscriber interfaces lines up to 15 analog
subscriber equipment of simplex communication, having up to eight keys / keys
for calling other subscribers of the communication system;
−Connection to the central exchange of DCN communication system and to
other DCN-15A via E1, a two-way simplex connection between 15 analog sub-
scriber equipment connected to the product and other subscriber equipment of
DCN communication system;
−Monitoring and indication on the front panel the status of subscriber interfac-
es, E1 line, as well as an indication of the status of DCN-15A itself and the integri-
ty of the power supply circuits;
−Connection of FM radio base stations and other loudspeaker equipment to the
analog interface via the gateway equipment manufactured by Armtel: " DCP /
MDK Radio connection gateway", "MDK - "Orekh" Gateway and others;
−Construction of multichannel zonal alarm system (up to 15 channels, maximum
eight zones per channel) with power amplifiers and relays for switching loud-
speakers;
−Connection of up to 8 discrete control lines for each analogue interface, but
not more than 60 for all 15 interfaces (an average of 4 per each), which can be
used as inputs, for example for connecting alarm and automation systems via
"dry contact", for indication on the keys of subscriber units connected to DCN-
15A, or outputs for control of external equipment and connecting relays for
switching alarms and automation equipment.

DCN-15A is ready for operation when delivered and does not require programming
during operation, except for modifications in configuring the system (connection of addi-
tional call stations, amplifiers, etc.). The central exchange of DCN system, connected to
DCN-15A via E1 line, controls the operation of DCN-15A module and subscriber units or
discrete lines connected to it.
Detailed description for functional area and programming techniques of DCN ex-
changes is provided in RMTL.465275.002UM "DCN Communication System. User Manual.
Part 2. Administrator Manual”.
1.2 Specifications
DCN-15A has the following interfaces:
−E1 (G.703/G.704) – for connection to the central exchange of DCN system via
E1 stream;
−RS-232 (V.24) – to connect a computer at a speed of up to 115 Kbps, used for
diagnostics and initial programming of the exchange at the manufacturer;
−Line AB – 15 analog interfaces, consisting of two-wire symmetric low-
frequency AB line, with the output of the midpoint of the line transformer and the
output of L discrete control line;
−CTRL Line – 60 discrete bi-directional control lines. For each analog interface,
you can assign up to eight discrete bi-directional control lines in configuration of
DCN central exchange.
