WARRANTY INFORMATION
This product, except the exterior cosmetic parts, is warranted to the original
purchaser to be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal
use as follows:
1. For a period of one year from the date of purchase, Virgin Musical
Instrument Company will pay the labor charges to repair the defective
product. After this one year period, you must pay all labor charges.
2. In addition, Virgin Musical Instrument Company will supply, at no
charge, new or rebuilt replacements for defective parts for a period of
one year from the date of purchase.
In the event repairs are needed, the original purchaser should contact
Virgin Musical Instrument Company, the parent company of Artesia Pianos,
at 888-998-9848. Virgin Musical Instrument Company will then repair
the product or return it to the VMI distribution center for repairs. Upon
completion of the repair, the unit will be returned to the music store, freight
prepaid.
This warranty will not apply to this product if it has been misused, abused,
or altered. Without limiting the foregoing, bending, dropping of unit, or visible
cracks and/or scratches are presumed to be defects resulting from misuse or
abuse.
This warranty is void if the product has been opened.
Neither this warranty nor any other warranty expressed or implied, including
implied warranties of merchantable, shall extend beyond the warranty
period.
No responsibility is assumed for any incidental or consequential damages.
Outside the US contact the original retailer where the product was
purchased for additional warranty details.

power supply even when the power switch is turned
o. If the product will not be used for a long time,
unplug the AC power cord from the AC outlet.
Failure to do so may cause rein case of
lightning.
Failure to do so may over-heat the product,
resulting in re.
This product may be equipped with a polarised line plug (one blade
wider than the other). This is a safety feature.
If you are unable to insert the plug into the outlet, contact an
electrician to replace your obsolete outlet.
Do not defeat the safety purpose of the plug.
When disconnecting the AC powercord’s
plug, always hold the plug
and pull it to remove it.
Pulling the AC power cord itself may damage
the cord, causing a re, electric shock or
short-circuit.
Doing so may cause the product tofall over,
resulting in injury.
Do not lean against the keyboard.
When using the headphones, do not
listen for long periods of
time at high volume levels.
Doing so may result in hearing problems.
It is a good practice to place the instrument near the AC outlet and to place the power cord plug in a
position that allows the plug to be disconnected easily in the event of an emergency. Electricity is always
charging while the plug is in the AC outlet even when the power switch is in the ‘OFF’ position.
The chair must be used properly (it must be
used only when playing the product).
Do not play with it or stand on it.
Only one person is allowed to sit on it.
Do not sit on it when opening the lid.
Re-tighten the bolts occasionally.
Doing so may cause the chair to fall over or your
ngers to be trapped, resulting in injury.

TROUBLESHOOTING
When the instrument is turned on or off, a
popping sound is heard.
This is normal and indicates that the instrument
is receiving electrical power.
When using a mobile phone, noise is produced Using a mobile phone is close proximity to
the instrument may produce interference. To
prevent this, turn off the mobile phone or use it
further away from the instrument.
Not all of the voices seem to sound, or the
sound seems to cut off.
The instrument is polyphonic up to a maximum
of 32 notes, including the layer voice, split
voice, auto accompaniment and metronome.
Notes exceeding this limit will not sound.
The auto accompaniment does not sound
properly.
Make sure that the accompaniment volume is
set to a appropriate level. Check that the split
point is set to an appropriate key for the chords
you are playing. Make sure that the CHORD
button for is engaged.
No sound is produced by the keyboard, but the
lights and screen work.
Check the master volume control. Check that
nothing is plugged into the headphone socket
or that LOCAL has been turned off in the
Function menu.
The sound of the voice changes from note to
note.
This is normal. The digital toe generation uses
multiple recordings, samples, of an instrument
across the range of the keyboard. The actual
sound of the voice may be slightly different
from note to note.
The volume is too soft.
The sound quality is poor.
The rhythm stops unexpectedly or will not play
The recorded data of the song does not play
correctly.
The LCD display suddenly goes dark and all
panel settings are reset.
An incorrect AC adapter which is not rated
If you have lost or damaged your AC adapter,
please contact your nearest dealer for the
correct replacement adapter.
To completely restore all setting as set by the
factory.
Perform a factory reset from the Function
menu, all of the user settings will be erased
and the default factory settings will be applied
to the instrument.
Power suddenly and unexpectedly turns off
after a period of inactivity.
This is normal outcome of the Auto Power Off
feature. You can disable the Auto Power Off, in
the Function menu.
The sustain pedal seems to produce the
opposite effect, so that pressing the pedal
deactivates the sustain and releasing the pedal
triggers the sustain.
The polarity of the switch needs to be changed.
Make sure the jack plug for the pedal is
connected correctly and do not press the pedal
while turning the piano on.

TROUBLESHOOTING
When the instrument is turned on or off, a
popping sound is heard.
This is normal and indicates that the instrument
is receiving electrical power.
When using a mobile phone, noise is produced Using a mobile phone is close proximity to
the instrument may produce interference. To
prevent this, turn off the mobile phone or use it
further away from the instrument.
Not all of the voices seem to sound, or the
sound seems to cut off.
The instrument is polyphonic up to a maximum
of 32 notes, including the layer voice, split
voice, auto accompaniment and metronome.
Notes exceeding this limit will not sound.
The auto accompaniment does not sound
properly.
Make sure that the accompaniment volume is
set to a appropriate level. Check that the split
point is set to an appropriate key for the chords
you are playing. Make sure that the CHORD
button for is engaged.
No sound is produced by the keyboard, but the
lights and screen work.
Check the master volume control. Check that
nothing is plugged into the headphone socket
or that LOCAL has been turned off in the
Function menu.
The sound of the voice changes from note to
note.
This is normal. The digital toe generation uses
multiple recordings, samples, of an instrument
across the range of the keyboard. The actual
sound of the voice may be slightly different
from note to note.
The volume is too soft.
The sound quality is poor.
The rhythm stops unexpectedly or will not play
The recorded data of the song does not play
correctly.
The LCD display suddenly goes dark and all
panel settings are reset.
An incorrect AC adapter which is not rated
If you have lost or damaged your AC adapter,
please contact your nearest dealer for the
correct replacement adapter.
To completely restore all setting as set by the
factory.
Perform a factory reset from the Function
menu, all of the user settings will be erased
and the default factory settings will be applied
to the instrument.
Power suddenly and unexpectedly turns off
after a period of inactivity.
This is normal outcome of the Auto Power Off
feature. You can disable the Auto Power Off, in
the Function menu.
The sustain pedal seems to produce the
opposite effect, so that pressing the pedal
deactivates the sustain and releasing the pedal
triggers the sustain.
The polarity of the switch needs to be changed.
Make sure the jack plug for the pedal is
connected correctly and do not press the pedal
while turning the piano on.

connectors or other parts of the instrument.

• Disconnect all cables before moving the
instrument.
• Physical shocks caused by dropping,
bumping, or placing heavy objects on the
instrument can result in scratches and/or
more serious damage.
• Avoid placing vinyl objects on top of the
instrument, vinyl can stick to and discolor the
surface.
CLEANING
• Clean the cabinet and panel with a soft,
nonabrasive, dry cloth. A wax based polish
may be used on the cabinet. Do not use paint
thinner or chemical based polishes.
• To maintain the luster of the keys and buttons
wipe with a clean, slightly damp cloth, and
then polish with a soft dry cloth.

MIDI CONNECTION
The MIDI terminal is located on the left side of the piano, under the key-bed. For more information
regarding transmitted MIDI data please see the MIDI implementation chart at the back of this manual.
The MIDI Local, USB MIDI In and the MIDI Out are turned adjusted using the Function menu.

MIDI OUT
This terminal transmits data from this instrument to other MIDI devices. The transmitted data
includes the note and touch velocity produced while playing on the keyboard, as well as voice
changes, wheel operation, and recorded playback for the melody tracks. Demo songs and auto
accompaniment are not transmitted.
LOCAL ON/OFF
This function allows you to turn on or off the speaker system of the piano, local is the MIDI Channel
message that sets whether your keyboard is going to trigger its internal sounds (Local ON) or not
(Local OFF). Normally, playing on the keyboard generates sound while it sends MIDI messages via
the MIDI connector or USB. This mode is called Local On. You can mute the piano sounds while still
sending out the MIDI messages. This mode is called Local Off. Turning the Local On/Off function
to off, will disconnect the keyboard from the internal sound engine of the piano. This means you
can use the piano as a MIDI controller to control other MIDI devices or virtual instrument software
running on your computer without playing the internal sounds of the piano.

that enables electronic musical instruments and computers of all brands to communicate with each other
so that data can pass between them. This exchange of information makes it possible to create a system

instruments. Whether you interface with computers, sequencers, expanders or other keyboards, your musical
horizons will be greatly enhanced.
If you are an advanced MIDI user, this section will help you to access the MIDI controller capabilities of the

The MIDI system in this unit has 16 channels numbered from 1-16. Each of the channels is responsible
for a voice. When the instrument receives from an external device, the active channel is determined by

by pressing one of the four quick select rhythm style buttons. The rhythm style name is printed
above the style select button. Press a button to select the style of your choice. The selected
rhythm name and its number will be shown on the display.
This piano offers 100 rhythm styles and a variation of each style pattern to choose from. Press
any style select button to engage the style select menu and use the +/YES and the –/NO buttons
or the DATA WHEEL to select a style. The style name and its number will be shown on the
display. There is a complete list of all 100 styles in the back of the manual.

7 METRONOME: The metronome is a convenient feature for practice, and can also provide a solid
rhythmic guide when recording. The METRONOME button toggles the metronome feature on and
off. Press the metronome button to hear the tempo & beat.
The tempo can be adjusted with the TAP/TEMPO button.
Use the FUNCTION button and the +/YES and the –/NO buttons to select the beat of your choice;
1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 6/8 or12/8.

sound delivery system. They can be used to hook up items such as CD players, MP3 player or

6 LINE OUT: These stereo RCA line audio output jacks supplies the piano’s output signal to external
console or tape recorder. The piano's internal sound system will remain on unless headphones
are plugged into either headphone jack.
7 INPUT LEVEL: Use this control knob adjusts the Aux In signal level for the piano. Turn the knob
clockwise to increase the level and counterclockwise to decrease the level.

1 SOFT PEDAL: When the left soft pedal is engaged the piano volume is reduced and
the timbre slightly altered on the notes that are played.
2 SOSTENUTO PEDAL: When the center pedal is engaged, the keys that are pressed
and already sounding will continue to sustain and the notes will decay gradually
after they are released. Keys that are played after the pedal has been pressed
are not affected.
3 SUSTAIN PEDAL: Like the damper pedal on an acoustic piano the the right sustain,
or damper, pedal will sustain the sound of the piano voice after releasing the
piano keys while engaged. The length of sustain time is determined by the

1 Before recording prepare the piano by setting the voice, style, volume, tempo, reverb level and other
parameters as desired.
Please note, these settings can be stored into a registration memory for easy recall, please see the

This piano offers 137 GM (General MIDI) authentic acoustic instrument voices offering unmatched realism
with digital effects to further enhance the sound.
Please see the complete list of all 137 voices in the Voice List at the back of this manual.
Please note, the keyboard and accompaniment volumes can adjusted independently from each other and
the master volume by using the KBD.VOL and/or ACC.VOL buttons with the DATA WHEEL.
VOICE SELECT
SELECTING ONE OF THE 137 VOICES
1The buttons in the VOICE SELECTION group are dual function buttons. The Voice buttons are
assigned to the top line A. Make sure that the indicator light on the A/B button is not lit, press the A/B
button if necessary.
Press a Voice button to engage the voice selection mode, the indicator will turn on, and the screen will
show the currently selected main voice.
2 Use the DATA WHEEL and/or the +/YES, –/NO buttons to scroll through the voices. The newly
selected voice name and number will be on the screen and that voice is selected for playing on the
keyboard.

4 You must press the RECORD button again to stop recording. The RECORD button indicator will go
out, and the TRACK indicator will stop blinking and remain lit showing that it has recorded information.
5 To exit the record mode, press the TRACK buttons one at a time to disengage all recording functions
so none of the indicators are lit. The display screen will return to the currently selected voice.
Please note, pressing the Track 1 and Track 2 buttons simultaneously will put the piano in the Play
Along Song music teacher mode. Indiscriminate pressing of the RECORD SELECTION group and
the SONG/TRACK buttons can overload the piano and cause the circuits to jam. In the event of that
occurrence you may need to turn the piano off to reset the circuits.

1 To listen to the local recorded data press the TRACK button(s) so that the track(s) you want to hear
have lit indicators. If you do not wish to hear a track press that TRACK button until it's indicator is out.
Press the track buttons one at a time. Pressing them simultaneously will engage the Play Along Song
music teacher feature.
2 Press the PLAY/STOP button to hear the recorded track(s). The PLAY/STOP button's indicator will
blink during the playback. You can change the tempo of the playback by pressing the TAP/TEMPO
button and using the DATA WHEEL, however this will not change the recorded tempo.
The keyboard is available for playing while the recording is playing back. If the metronome is engaged it
will tick to the tempo of the recording.

4 Press the PLAY/STOP button again to stop the playback. Playback will stop automatically when the
recording reaches its end.
5 To exit the record mode, press the TRACK 1 and TRACK 2 buttons, one at a time, so both indicators
go out.
DELETING TRACKS
1 Press and hold the TRACK 1 or TRACK 2 button that you wish to erase for three seconds. Do not
press them at the same time.

Pressing a track button with recorded information while holding the RECORD button will also
immediately erase the existing data from your previous recording. Any recording done will record over
previous data.

1 Before recording prepare the piano by setting the voice, style, volume, tempo, reverb level and other
parameters as desired.
Please note, these settings can be stored into a registration memory for easy recall, please see the
Registration Memory section for more information.
2 If desired, press the METRONOME button to enable the metronome as a reference. The metronome
will sound to the tempo and beat assigned, if you wish to adjust the tempo, do so by using the TAP/
TEMPO button, and if you want to adjust the beat do so in the Function menu before recording as they
cannot be changed during recording. The metronome tick will not be recorded.
If you have already recorded one track, the second track's tempo and beat pattern will follow the setting

indicator will light up signaling that the USB is engaged. If the MEMORY button indicator is not lit,
please press the MEMORY button to engage the USB thumb drive.
