1. BRIEF PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing this high quality Astone product. The Rumba 1000 Digital Music
Drive is an excellent example of the style and technology Astone is bringing to the market.
This USB mass storage device is charging in front of the competition as it is capable of
playing and recording high quality sound.
The MP3/WMA player is equipped with comprehensive audio control buttons, an audio
jack and earphones, so you can store data files as well as listen to your favorite music
where ever you are and whatever you are doing.
The Rumba 1000 Digital Music Drive fits perfectly in today’s technology and fashion
conscious environment where having the best is only a matter of Astone.
Please read this manual carefully to better understand the operation of this device.

1.1 Function Overview
¾Music Formats Supported:
This device is capable of playing music formats such as MP1, MP2, MP3, WMA,
ASF, WMV & WAV.
¾Repeat Function:
Includes A-B repeat function when playing music files.
¾Digital Recording:
Good quality digital recording saved as WAV format. Capable of recording for
approximately 9 hours. (128MB).
¾Deleting Current Single Song Audio File and Single Song Recording File:
For any audio file or recording file playing, you can delete by pressing PLAY/STOP
button singly.
¾Drive Function:
The device can be used as a “portable USB storage device” without any driver on
Win2000 / ME and XP operating systems.

¾Compatible with MAC Computer and Linux Version 2.4.2 and above:
Compatible with operation systems such as MAC OS 10.3 and above, Linux 2.4.2
and above, driver installation is required.
¾“My Domain” Disk Management:
Using tools attached to this device, the user can create a secret disk partition for
storing personal data files.
¾Firmware Updating Function:
You can download the latest version of firmware to update the device.
¾Automatic Power Off:
This player will power off automatically if there is no operation within 15 seconds,
except USB mode.
¾Support Startup Function:
Using tools attached to this device, the user is able to make the player a start up
disk.

2.1 Appearance and Keys
The player is equipped with dual colour LED indicator light (RED & GREEN). When both
are on together it will produce a third colour (AMBER).
Keys
PLAY/STOP: Turn on / Turn off / Play and Stop.
AB/REC: A-B repeat function / Record.
NEXT/VOL+: Volume increase / Next Track / Fast Forward.
PREV/VOL-: Volume decrease / Previous Track / Start of current track.
MODE: Selects Mode or Function
Interface
USB: Standard USB type A plug.
EARPHONE: Standard earphone jack.
MIC: Built-in microphone for recording.

Battery Installation: Install one 1.5V AAA (alkaline or rechargeable battery.)
2.2 Low Voltage Display
This player can identify and display a warning when the battery voltage is too low:
¾While in the music playing mode and the green LED is flashing. The amber LED
flashes every 2 seconds to indicate the battery is low.
¾When in record mode, or when a voice recording is being played and the red LED
is flashing. The amber LED flashes every 2 seconds to indicate the battery is low.
WARNING:
DO NOT LEAVE BATTERIES IN THE UNIT FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, AS
THIS MAY CAUSE LEAKAGE AND OR DAMAGE TO THE DEVICE.

3. Operation Guide
This Section outlines the full operating procedure of the device.
3.1 Basic Operation
a. Turning the device ON
Press the PLAY/STOP button for 2 seconds and the device will turn ON.
The device will also turn on automatically if connected to the computer via the USB.
b. Turning the device OFF
1. The device will turn off automatically if there is no operation after 15 seconds. (When
there is no music playing).
2. Long press the PLAY/STOP button for 2 seconds and the device will turn off.
Note: This player cannot be turned off under USB mode.

Note: Do not disconnect the device when exchanging data with a computer
(both red and green LED flahing). As it may result in possible loss of data or
damage to the unit.
3.2 MODE INTRODUCTION
3.2.1 Mode Switch
¾There are Three modes which this product supports:
1. Play mode.
2. Play DVR mode.
3. Record playing under DVR mode.
¾You can switch to all three modes by short-pressing the MODE key.
Note: You cannot listen to Audio files through the earphones during connection via the
USB connector to the computer.

3.2.2 Play Mode
Playing Music
¾Once the player is switched on a green light will show that the player is turned ON.
¾Pressing the Play button will play the first audio file and the green LED will then
start flashing.
¾Pressing the Play button a second time, will PAUSE the audio file.
¾To skip tracks, press the Next track or Previous track buttons.
¾To fast forward or rewind: Press and HOLD the Next track or Previous track.
¾To Delete an audio file: Firstly select a track, then press and hold the MODE key for
5 seconds, both red and green LED blinks steadily and alternately, it shows that
the current song is ready to be deleted. To continue with deletion, short press the
PLAY/STOP key. Upon deletion the red goes out and green LED lights up. The
device will then turn back to the halted state of MUSIC mode.
Under music playing state of MUSIC mode, keystroke operations are as follows:

¾Short-pressing AB/REC: It will enter into repeat function. (Red and amber will
flash). Press AB/REC again and it will repeat recorded section over and over until
you press AB/REC again to return to normal. (Green flashing light).
¾Under any state of repeat function, short-pressing NEXT/VOL+ or PREV/VOL- key
cancels AB repeat function.
VOLUME CONTROL
¾Firstly Short-Press the MODE key while music is playing. (Light will turn red).

¾To increase or decrease the volume hold down the
NEXT/VOL+ and PREV/VOL- keys.
¾Short-Press the MODE key again to return to normal.

3.2.3 DVR Mode (Recording)
For recording mode make sure the unit is not playing music. (It needs to be in Halted
State).
¾Short-Press the MODE Key: This will turn the unit into DVR mode. (The light will turn
from green to red).
¾To Record press the AB/REC key. The red light will be flashing. The unit is now
recording sound.
¾Short-Press the AB/REC key again, the unit will stop recording. (The light will return
to a steady red).
¾To delete the last Recording: Press and hold the MODE key. (Green and red
lights will flash.)
¾Short-Pressing the MODE key will cancel the deletion operation.
¾Short-Pressing PLAY/STOP key will confirm this deletion.
¾The player will then return to halted state of DVR mode.

NOTE:
1. If the memory is full or the battery is too low the unit will not record. (The green light
will flash once).
2. Record playing function of DVR mode has no AB repeat function.
3.2.4 USB Mode
This section explains how to use the storage disk to store files or music.
¾Connect the device to the computer via the USB port. (The amber light will come
on).
¾For Windows 98 the supplied driver program is required.
¾For Windows 2000 and higher / Mac OS X 10.3 and higher / Linux 2.4.2 and higher:
NO DRIVER IS REQUIRED.

¾While data is being exchanged the amber light will flash. It is important to not
unplug the device while the light is flashing as the action may damage the device or
possible data loss.
¾Unplugging the device will enter it into MUSIC mode (Halted State). The green light
will come on.
To remove the device from the USB port safely you must:
1. Short Press the MODE key. (Green light will come on and enter into MUSIC
mode).
2. Depending on the operating system you may need to click the ‘Remove Drive
Icon’ that pops up.
3. The device is now safe to remove from the USB port.

4. INSTALLATION (Device Driver and Tools)
4.1 Installing Win 98 Driver
The installation consists of three parts:
1. Driver: If you are using the Windows98SE operating system, the device will
require a driver. Windows Me/2000/XP operating systems do not require one.
