Congratulations on purchasing a new Athens Wheelie bin Enclosure from Astra Street
Furniture (a member of the Area Safe Group)!
There are many different styles, colours, sizes and custom options in the Athens series to suit
the many ways this product can be used. This installation guide applies to the whole series as
they all need the same assembly and installation method.
The following instructions are a general guide only and Area Safe Products Pty Ltd is not
responsible for specific site conditions that may affect the detail of how the product is
installed.
Tools Required (not included):
Spanner set
Cordless Drill and Phillips driver bits (or screwdriver set)
Hammer drill and masonry bits
4x M10 dyna-bolts (concrete) or M10 coach screws & plastic plugs (pavers/bitumen)
Personal Protective safety equipment

Assembly & Installation:
10. Ensure that the area where the product is to be installed is as level and flat as possible. Athens bin
enclosures must be bolted down on a hard surface such as concrete. They are not suitable to be
left free-standing without being fastened in place.
11. To meet DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) requirements for accessibility, the placement of bins
along pathways should avoid locations that encroach on the path of travel.
12. Important: The assembly is best done with 2 persons.
13. When unwrapping, carefully lay out the components on a soft, clean, non-abrasive surface so as
not to damage them. Lift - do not slide. Sliding may scratch the pre-finished product.
14. Check the parts received against the above components list to ensure that the correct product has
been ordered. Retain packaging until after all components have been accounted for.
15. (During assembly, do not fully tighten any fasteners).
16. Firstly, connect the back panel to the 2 side panels with hex head screws and washers as listed
(Component Number 7).
17. Place the top module on top of the side panels and fasten with hex head screws and washers as
listed. Note: There are no nutserts in top module above door opening. Check the top module is in
correct position before fastening screws.
18. Attach the door panel to the hinges with Countersunk head fasteners as listed.
19. Place assembly into final position, check for squareness and tighten all fixings (refer to point 10
below).
20. If the door is out of alignment, then the ground surface is likely to be out of level. Pack as required
with washers when bolting down onto slab. Construction grout or flexible sealant can be used if
desired to fill any gap under the base plate.
21. (If purchased separately, attach a yellow recycling chute or red rubbish chute to the covered top
module).
22. After unwrapping hardwood slat furniture, wipe the slats with a cloth to remove excess oil.
Allow 72 hours to dry in the sun before use. For other slat types, use a damp soft rag to
gently wipe over the furniture item to clean all finger marks, packaging dust etc from the
surfaces. Follow with a dry soft rag.

Please Note: It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure that the product is suitable for the
application and that it is installed in a safe manner based on customers risk analysis.
