Description
The SmartGuard SG6P is a device for measuring the level of liquids such as
heating oil, diesel, kerosene, gasoil, AdBlue and water, then relaying that
information by GSM to a user and / or monitoring system.
The level measurement is achieved using a unique flexible element that
is set to length without tools.
The gauge periodically measures the level and checks for thefts or leaks
and reports these if found. It also reports the tanks contents level for
trending usage patterns.
The gauge is battery operated, self-contained and does not require
calibration in the field.

Installation and Commissioning
Note: It is important that you verify that there is a mobile signal at the point of
installation before you install the sensor.
The installation is carried out following the flowchart shown in Fig 1. Each step is
clarified in the text below:

5
Is the tank and fuel acceptable? The tank should be less than 10 meters tall, and contain
heating oil, diesel, kerosene, gasoil, AdBlue or water. It should be possible to mount the
probe without striking any impassable barriers (the probe will bend around minor
obstruction)
Is there a GSM signal? Using the SmartGuard at the tank press the button as in fig.6 and
follow the light sequence as detailed below after fig.6. If connected to the network as
described continue with installation. If not please contact Atlantis on 0330 9991100.
Take measurements. The height of the tank (on a bunded tank this is the inner fuel bearing
tank) in cm, the volume of the tank in litres and finally the height of the liquid in cm. This
data is recorded on the installation form along with the SmartGuard serial number and is
then entered during the registration process.
Does the tank already have an electronic gauge mounting point? Many tanks now have
a mount already defined and drilled. If so the SmartGuard will screw straight into it.
If not a suitable position will have to be selected and three holes will be drilled. These are
a central 25mm hole and 2 small pilot holes for self-tapping screws. See *fig 2 (If a suitable
electric screwdriver is used the pilot holes may be skipped)

Mount the threaded collar onto the fixing holes using the supplied seal, as shown in *fig

Fit the probe. Saw the probe to length so that the end of the probe is just above the take-
off pipe. This is around 100mm off the bottom of the tank. Cut it using a fine-toothed
hacksaw for use with metal. There are 2 thin metal plates in the probe try not to distort
these or cause them to jump from their slots.
Insert the SmartGuard enclosure into the threaded collar and fully tighten.

Once the probe has been fitted the button should be pressed again to send the current
tank level to the servers. To do this press in the centre of the stylised mark as indicated
in *fig 6 for at least one second.

The first time this hidden button is pushed, lights will indicate the device status.
Status Lights during installation
During installation there are two lights that inform you of the sensors progress.
The red light concerns whether the unit is connected to the GSM network.
The green light informs of various stages and readings.
When first initiated the green light will flash rapidly once or twice. This is the unit taking
a series of readings to establish the current tank level.
After this the GSM will be started and the red light will begin to flash. At first it will flash
once every second this is the unit searching for a connection to the mobile network.
After approximately 30 seconds it should slow down to once every four seconds. This
indicates that it has registered onto the network. If it never slows down to one in four
then a network is not present or has too low a signal.
After the SmartGuard logged on, the green light will flash to indicate signal strength. It
will flash from one to five times with five being the strongest.
It will now wait for approximately 4 minutes with the green light 'flickering' rapidly and
the red light slow flashing. After this time, the lights should go out and the unit is now
monitoring for level and re-filling.

Problems during install
Very few problems are likely to be encountered.
Failure to connect to a GSM Network. When the unit is first commissioned there are
two lights which let you know what is happening with the unit and network. Also
thought should be given when choosing the position of the unit so that it is not fully
shielded by metal which will interfere with the signal.
Obstruction. Preexisting mounts should be free from obstruction as the tank
manufacturers will have chosen a clear area of tank. Should holes need to be drilled in
an old tank and internal structures found then the probe can flex or snake around
minor obstructions. Caution must be taken to ensure that the cable is not damaged
by forcing round bends too sharply.
Water. If the probe is too long it will enter any water that has collected at the bottom of
the tank. This causes a degradation in accuracy.
If you do encounter a problem during installation, please call Atlantis on 0330 9991100
quoting the serial number of the SmartGuard.

Register the SmartGuard
Go to www.smartguard.co (or your supplier's website) and select the login page.
There you should find a registration page.
Begin the registration process. You will be prompted to enter the tank dimensions you
collected during the installation and commissioning of the SmartGuard* and setup
alarms and recipients.
From now on you may login and view the contents and usage information at
anytime from anywhere with a data connection.
