WARN NG
This amplifier Prometheus operates in class - A and is
therefore capable of eneratin a moderately hi h temperatue
which requires careful placin to aviod any effect this heat
may have on other equipment, furniture and fittin s etc.
Do not remove the top cover from this ampllifier.
Hazardous volta es are present. Any repair work should
be referered to a suitable qualified and experienced
service person.
Do not attempt to connect any input of this amplifier to
any of its outputs.
Do not earth any output terminal or connect any of these
terminals to ether without followin the instructions in
this manual or seekin qualified assistance.
Do not place this amplifier in any position where liquids
or any forei n material may accidentally enter it.
Do not disconnect any in / output wire, while the amplifier is
operatin .
Do not connect any volta e source short circut, earth / round
or appliance (other than suitable HiFi quality loudspeakers )
to any output terminal.
Some preamplifiers, proccesors, CD players etc produce
lar e switchin pulses when switched on, causin a loud
click throu h the loudspeakers. For this reason, turn on
all other equipment in your system and operate the
Stand - by mode of the amplifier before turnin on the Prometheus.
Note: the Prometheus power amplifier do not cause this problem.

FRONTPANEL
The front panel of the Prometheus power amplifier
incorporates with a small panel filled with two switches.
These switches control the day to day function of the amplifier.
The operation of this two switches is like followin :
MA N SW TCH ( right side )
This heavy duty rocker switch is at the ri ht side
of this panel and switched the mains / line power of the
amplifier ON or OFF. The illuminated ( blue / red ) front lo o show
you the mode in what the amplifier works actual. When the lo o
shinnin blue ( reen ) , the amplifier is in OPERATION - MODE,
when the lo o shinnin red - the amp is in the STAND - BY MODE.
When you switch ON the amp - its not important what direction stay
the STAND BY switch its time.
An internal "automatic time delay" over 1 minutes spend after switch
ON the amp at first the heatin volta e for all tubes and after 1 min.
the plate volta e too. You can watch its procedure on the illuminated
front panel. At first start red shinnin periode and after 1 min. chan e
the li ht from red to blue and then the amp works.
It is not ood practice to repeatedly active this switch ON and OFF
rapidly, same for the STAND - BY switch.
STAND - BY SW TCH.
This switch on the left of the front panel alters the mode between
STAND BY or OPERAT ON of the amplifier. Switch up is
OPERAT ON - mode ( you see the blue illuminated front lo o )
and switch down is the STAND BY mode ( the front lass lo o want
be red illuminated ).
When you switch ON the power main switch, its STAND BY switch
can stay in position what want.
Never leave your tube amp unobserved in Operation mode

REAR PANEL
The facilities on the rear panel of the Prometheus may
seem not so complex. The rear panel incorporates all
of the terminals for connectin the input si nals and
the output si nals to the loudspeaker. A reasonable
understandin of this amplifier and the lo ical approach
should ensure that you are listenin to this amplifier in a
very short space of time without any difficults at all.
Please remember that the AUDIOVALVE Prometheus
power amplifier is a hi h quality electronic instrument
capable of an exceptional level of performance.
Be sure that you are understandin your requirements fully
before you make any connection to this amplifier.
NPUT TERM NALS
Input terminals for this Prometheus power amplifier are easily
accessible and fitted to the lower centre area of the rear panel.
RCA NPUT. These standard type of RCA terminals are for
use with unbalanced si nals from most si al sources such as
audio preamplifiers.
IMPORTANT NOTE: When you use the RCA jacket, please short
circuit the ne . phase on the XLR jacket to round ( short circuit pin
1+3 with an wire or separate plu ). The amp no like an open ne .
input.
XLR BALANCED NPUT. XLR connector fitted to
the amplifier are for use with balanced line si nals from
audio preamplifiers etc. Balanced si nals are carried
via a three way cable that connects all three pins at each
of the interconnect cable. Please note, the si nal has now
double level !!!!
DO NOT operate this amplifier with both RCA and XLR
cables connect at the same time.
Prometheus 100 power mono blocks
OUTPUT TERM NALS
Output connections for the Loudspeakers are provided on the
lower centre of the rear panel. Two pairs of heavy duty ,
old plated bindin posts for each cannel are supplied.
CONNECT your loudspeaker positive terminal to the
amplifier (+) output terminal. Connect your loudspeaker
ne ative terminal to the ( - ) output terminal.
POLAR TY - PHAS NG
It is important to achieve ood stereo ima in in your
listenin room. By observin the wirin constructions
above, each power amplifier / loudspeaker combination
should be in phase. If you experience a poor stereo
ima e and / or a lack of bass, check that the loudspeaker
wirin has been connnected correctly. We recommend that
you use one of the easily obtainable "test - disc" to help
you ensure both phasin and channel orientation are correct.
If in doupt, consult your Audio Valve dealer for advice.
Quality of the connections must be examined to ensure a hi h
performance trouble free operation is enjoyed.Check that the
connections are ti ht, but do not overti hten with excessive
use of spanners etc. If bare wires are used, make sure that no
loose strands of wire short across to the other terminals or
the amplifier chassis. When usin plu s such as Banana, be
sure tu use ood quality one`s with a firm fit.
connecting recommendations for best match:
Speakers between 4-8 ohm impedance please use the two
lower speaker terminals - thats your prefered terminals.
For loudspeaker more then 8 Ohm please use the top two speaker
terminal
Prometheus 100 power mono blocks
Please use the following terminals for connecting your
loudspeakers:
speakers with 4 – 8 Ohm use lower terminals
speakers up to 8 – 16 Ohm use upper terminals
When connectin your speakers, you have many options variable. You can chan e your
speaker cables horizontally between the 8 or 4 ohm speaker terminals connect, but you
can also use the speaker terminals dia onally to 6 ohm impedance tap off. The
amplifier it does not matter what you use the speaker terminals. Use those that you
deliver the best performance.
Do not make any other connection to any of the amplifiers
ne ative or positive output speaker terminals, all terminals have si nal potentioal no
like GROUNDING to other equipment.

NSTALLAT ON AND OPERAT ON
MA NS VOLTAGE
CHECK that the mains volta e on a sticker printed on the rear of this
amplifier is similar to the mains volta e normaly supplied to
your area. If in doubt, please consult your AUDIOVALVE dealer.
PLACEMENT AND VENT LAT ON
This Audio Valve Prometheus power amplifier is desi ned to
operate at a moderately hi h temperature. The ideal location
is on the ri id stand or floor mounted away from direct contact
with any objects, materials or deep pile carpets which may be
effected by the heat or which may interrupt the flow of air around
the amplifier.
When operatin the amplifiers quite a lot of heat is enerated which
should be allowed to dissipate without restriction. Make sure
that no objects are placed on the top of the amplifier. Always
ensure adequate ventilations.
MA NS / L NE POWER connection is via supplied plu -in lead.
The standard IEC socket connects the mains power at the amplifier
end while a local mains plu is required at the wall end. In the event
where a "local" plu needs to be fitted to the wall end of the lead,
ensure the at the plu s is wired correctly by a suitable qualified
or experienced person.
Ensure the main switch of the front of this amplifier is OFF before
attemptin any modification of the mains connection.
MA NS / L NE FUSE ( 230VAC-3,15asb / 115VAC-6 asb )
A Mains / Line fuse is fitted within the IEC Mains / Line socket on
the rear of the amplifier. A small draw at the bottom of this socket
may be removed (after the EC plug is removed) by leverin it out
with a flat blade screw driver. The fuse ( american type ) fitted should
be razed at no reater than 6.3 ampere slow blow.
In the unusual event that this fuse should blow, you must first
establish the cause of this failure, cure the fault and then replace
the fuse with one of the same type.
DO NOT F T A FUSE W TH H GHER RAT NG.
Prometheus 100 power mono blocks
AUTOMAT C B AS CONTROL FUNCT ON ( ABR )
AudioValve has a unique fully automatic Bias Regulator, which can
adjust both the static quiescent current of the tubes, as well as the
dynamic current at volume level
Each power tube is controlled by an ABR.
The correct function of the ABR is shown by LEDs,
next to each power tube.
When the amplifier is correct operatin , no LED is shinin .
In case that any of the power tubes is faulty one of the red LEDs,
which are to ether at the ri ht side of the power tubes ,
immediatly indicated.
If this happens, you have to chan e the power tube of this place.
After chan in the power tube, the LED must be off a ain.
This model of amp have reversible electronical ( PTC ) use. When a
power tube like to collapse, the automatic reversible fuse open and
protect its place around the faulty power tube.
Please notice:
All handlin at the open amplifier has to be done
when the main power plu is disconnected .
Work on the amplifier can only ever be done by the expert
When the amplifier is driven in a very hi h level output,
the ABRs are re ulatin the power tubes and there is sometimes a
sli hty pumpin shinin of the LEDs - thats a normal mode and show
you the activity from the bias re ulators
