4.1Placement
Important
·Itisrecommended toplacethe ARTG3intoahighqualityrackor
onto a stable table.
·Do notexposetheunitto directsunlight.
·Donotplacethe ARTG3incloserangetoheatsourceslikeradia-
tors.
·DonotplacetheARTG3on topofotherunits,especiallynoton top
ofpoweramplifiers,preamplifiers orsimilarthatproduce heat.Both
unitscouldsufferdamage fromthermaloverload.
·Do notuse the unit in aplace where itisexposed to vibrations.
·Donotplace the unitclosetoloudspeakers orintothe cornerofa

4.2Mainsconnection
The mainsinput12 *ison the backpanelofthe ARTG3. To connectthe
unittomainsusetheincluded mainscord. Ifyou prefertouseadifferent
powercordmakesurethatitmeetsthe specificationsforyourhome
country.

·Neverpullthe mainsplugwhiletheARTG3isswitched on!Always
powerdowntheunit tostand-bymode first,beforeyou pull the
mainscordfromthe mainsinput12 on the backpanelofthe unit.

4.3Orientation ofmainsplug
Thecorrectpolarizationofmainsisimportantforreasonsofaudioclarity
and stability.Pleaseconnectthemainscordthatthehotpinofthewall
outletisconnectedtothepinofmainsinput12marked 'PHASE'13 on
the backpanelofthe unit.YourAudionetARTG3isabletodetecta
wrongpolarization ofthe mainsplugduringstart-up. Ifthe message

4.4Connectingtheexternalpower supplyEPSor EPX
To useone oftheoptionalexternalpowersuppliesEPSorEPXwithyour
ARTG3 followthesesteps:
1. Make sure bothART G3and EPS/EPXare switched off and
disconnected fromthe mains.
2. Connectthe EPS /EPXwiththe included cabletoinputjack8
on the back panelofthe ART G3. The shape ofthe plug prevents
any wrongpolarity. Thesmall'nose'insidethe plug hastoface
upwards. Nowscrewthe ring ofthe plug ontothe inputjack 8 .

3. Connectboth (!!)units (ART G3 and EPS /EPX)tomains.
4. Switch on the EPS/EPXatthe back panelfirst.
5. Usekey power atthe frontpanelorthe key ART ofthe Audionet
MetalRemoteControl RC 1 toswitch on the ART G3. The
ART G3 isnowready touse and gets its power fromthe external
power supply EPS /EPX.
6. Toswitch off theART G3intostand-by mode,usethe key power
on the frontpanelor key ART ofthe AudionetMetalRemote
Control RC 1.
Important
·Neverswitch on oroff theEPS /EPXon itsbackpanelwhilethe
ARTG3 isswitched on orduringplayback.
·Forfurtherinformationreferringtotheexternalpowersupply
EPS /EPXplease consultitsuser'smanual.

Usethe HighBit mode only if you wanttotransmitdigitalaudiodata
fromtheARTG3toanAudionetpreamplifiercompatibletothe Audio-
netHighBit-Interface, e.g.the AudionetDNx(exceptDNA 1)orAudio-
netMAP 1. Additionally,intheHighBitmode digitaloutput OUT3 11
transmitsastereoPCMsignalatasamplingrateof96 kHz(downsam-
pled fromthe AudionetHighBit 192 kHzsignal) witharesolution of
24 bitinthe AES/EBUformat.Digitaloutput OUT4 14 transmitseven
inthe HighBit mode astereo PCMsignalatasamplingrateof44.1 kHz
and a resolutionof16 bit.
Important
·WithotherdevicesbutHighBit-compatibleAudionetpreamplifiers a
correctdecodingofdigitalaudiodatais not possibleand can lead to
high-levelnoisefromthe speakers,which mightdamageyourear
and/orequipment.
Inordertotransmit digitalaudiodatafromyourARTG3toanAudionet
preamplifier,you havetoconnectdigitaloutput OUT1 9 ofthe
ARTG3 to the digitalaudio input'DigitalIn 2'ofthe MAP V2 or'Digital
AudioIN1'ofthe MAP 1 orDNx (exceptDNA 1).
Additionally,connectdigitaloutput OUT2 10 ofthe ARTG3todigital
audioinput'DigitalIn3'oftheMAPV2or'DigitalAudioIN2'ofthe

5.4.1Connecting thecomputertotheUSBaudioinput
Withthe USBAudiointerfaceyou canplaybackmusicandsoundfiles
fromyourcomputer(PC)usingthe sophisticated digital-to-analogcon-
vertersoftheARTG3instead ofthesoundcardofthePC.The ARTG3
isintegrated intoyourcomputersystemasUSBAudiodevice.The instal-
lationisdone(mostly)automaticallyviaPlug'n'Play,provided acorrectly
installed operatingsystem.
Note
·TousetheUSBAudiofunction ofthe ARTG3, yourcomputerre-
quireshavingMicrosoft™Windows™XP™ornewer,AppleOSX
10.1 orhigheroracurrentLinux version asoperating system,with
the latestUSBAudiodrivers installed. Forfurtherinformation about
the minimumsystemrequirementspleaserefertothedocumentation
ofyourinstalled operatingsystem.
1. Connectdigitalinput IN 1 15 withasuitableUSBcable(plug
type Atoplugtype B)toafree USBportatyourcomputer that
iscompatiblewithUSB1.1or above and supportsthe FullSpeed
USBprotocol.
2. Startyour computer, then switch on the ART G3.
The ARTG3isrecognizedasnewlyadded hardwarebyyourcomputer.
Dependingon the operating systeminstalled onyourcomputer,itmight
occurthatatthe firstconnection ofthe ARTG3, theoperatingsystem
promptsyou to installa driverforthe newhardware.
·Ifnecessary,Windowsmaypromptyou toinsertitsinstallation
CD/DVD. Please have thediscready.
·Forfurtherinformationaboutautomatichardwarerecognition,
searchingforand installinghardwaredrivers,pleaserefertothe
documentation ofyouroperatingsystem.
·USBAudioisan integralpart ofup todateoperatingsystems,sono
furthersoftwareinstallationisnecessary.Afterinstallingthe neces-
saryhardwaredrivers the ARTG3will be automaticallyintegrated
intoyourcomputersystemfromnowon and isreadytouseafter
pluggingin the USBcable.
Dependingon the installedoperatingsystemthe ARTG3will beauto-
maticallysetup asstandarddeviceforsound playback.Incasethisisnot
done automaticallydue toyourcurrentsystemconfiguration, pleaseset
the correspondingoptionmanually:

3. Selecting the audio outputdevice
a)Microsoft™Windows™
Open up the'Soundsand AudioDevices'dialogofyourWindowsSet-
tingsmenu. Clickon the tab'Audio'and select'AudionetARTG3'from
the listofstandard devices(see the followingexample):

Open the 'SystemPreferences'and selectthe preference pane'Sound'.
Clickon the tab 'Output', and select'AudionetARTG3'asoutputdevice.

c) Linux
Open the 'SystemSettings'and select'Sound &Multimedia'.Nowopen
the item'Music'inthe 'AudioOutput'dialog,and select'IDEKTRON
GmbH&Co. KG.Germany AudionetARTG3(USBAudio)'as'Output
Device Preference forthe Music Category'.
Nowall musicand sound files,thatyou playbackonyourcomputerare
played backusingthe sophisticated analog-to-digitalconverters ofyour
ARTG3.
Note
·All volumeand balance settingsofyouroperatingsystemoryour
sound application willbe stillactive. Incaseyou hearno soundatall
orthe soundhaslowvolumewhileplayingbacksound andmusic
fileswithyourARTG3, pleasemakesurethatyourvolumesettings
ofyouroperatingsystemorsound application arenotmuted orsetto
a lowlevel.
Important
·TheUSBAudiofunction oftheARTG3can only be used ifthe
loaded discisstopped, or no disc isloaded atall.
·Duringplaybackofanydiscwiththe ARTG3you willhear only the
audiofromthedisc. Therewillbe no signalfromtheUSBAudioin-
terface.
·Option Set Auto Off intheGlobalSetup menu hastobesetto
never off,ifyou wouldliketousethe USBAudiofunction ofthe
ARTG3, otherwisethe unit willshutdownautomaticallyafter30
minutes(referto section'SetAutoOff'on page 50).

5.4.2Using theSPDIFinputs
You canuse DigitalAudioIN 2 16 orthe USB/SPDIFDigitalAudioIn-
put IN1 15(withaspecialadaptorcable, availablefromAudionet) as
SPDIFdigitalaudioinput.Therefore, you can usethe sophisticated digi-
tal-to-analogconverterofthe ARTG3forotherdigitalsourceslikeCD
transports, DATrecorder,too.
1. Connectthe USB/SPDIF Audioinput 15 totheSPDIFoutputofthe
sourcedevice usingan adaptercable. Alternativelyyou can usean
opticalfibrecabletoconnectthe sourcedevicetothe Digi-
talInputIN2 16 .
2. Switch on theARTG3, andselectinthemainmenu the digitalinput
ofyou choice (refertosection 'SetSPDIFDigitalInput'on page 47).
3. Switchon thesourcedevice, andstart theplaybackon thesource
device.
The musicofthe source device isnowplayed backusingthe sophisti-
cated digital-to-analogconvertersofthe ARTG3.

·TheARTG3supportsthefollowingformats:PCMStereo, sample
rate 32 kHzup to 96kHz, 16 bitand 24 bitresolution.
Important
·TheSPDIFAudiofunctionoftheARTG3can only be usedifthe
loaded discisstopped, or no disc isloaded atall.
·Duringplaybackofanydiscwiththe ARTG3you willhear only the
audiofromthe disc. Therewill be no signalfromthe SPDIFAudio
interface.
·Option Set Auto Off intheGlobalSetup menu hastobesetto
never off,if you wouldliketousethe SPDIFAudiofunction of
