OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
1ON-OFF POWER BUTTON
Press this button to turn the unit on or off. The unit will also turn
on automatically when a cassette tape is inserted if the ignition
switch is "on".
2VOLUME LEVEL CONTROL (VOL+ / VOL-)
To increase the volume level, press the “VOL +” side of the
button. The volume will increase and the level will be shown on
the display panel from a minimum of 0 to a maximum of 80. To
increasethevolumequickly,keepthebuttonpressed. Todecrease
the volume level, press the “VOL -” side of the button. Keep
the button pressed to decrease the volume quickly. The display
will automatically return to the normal indication 5 seconds
after the last volume adjustment or when another function is
activated. These buttons are also used in conjunction with the
Select (SEL) button 3to adjust the bass, treble, balance, and
fader levels as described in 4, 5, 6and 7.
3SELECT BUTTON (SEL)
DISPLAY CLOCK
This button is used to select the audio function (volume, bass,
treble, balance, or fade) to be adjusted using the Level Control
2, as well as the indication (time, frequency, or radio pre-set
number) shown on the display panel. A momentary press of
the button will change the display from radio frequency to clock
time. After 5 seconds, the display will automatically return to
frequency .
Additional momentary presses of the button will set the unit for
bassadjustment(levelnumberabove“BASS”willflashondisplay
panel), treble (level number above “TRE” will flash), loudness
("LOUD" on display), balance (“bAL” on display), fader (“FAd”)
or volume (level number). The display will automatically return
to the normal indication 5 seconds after the last adjustment is
made or when another function is activated.

6LOUDNESS CONTOUR (LOUD)
To adjust the Loudness Contour, first select the Loudness mode
by pressing the Select (SEL) 3 so that "LOUD" indication
appears on the display panel. Within 5 seconds press either (+)
for "On" or (-) for "Off". When listening to music at low volume
levels, this feature will boost the bass and treble ranges to
compensate for the characteristics of human hearing.
7LEFT/RIGHT BALANCE CONTROL
To adjust the left-right speaker balance, first select the Balance
modebypressing the Selectbutton 3sothatthe“bAL” indication
appears on the display panel. Within 5 seconds of choosing the
Balance mode, press the -side of the Level Control 2to adjust
the stereo balance to the left channel speakers or the +side
toadjust it totheright channel speakers. Whenthevolume level
between the right and left channels is equal, “0-0” will be shown
on the display panel. Adjusting the balance toward the right will
increase the number on the right side of the display to a maximum
of “0-9” (full right). Adjusting the balance toward the left will
increasethe number ontheleft side ofthedisplay to amaximum
of “9-0” (full left). The display will automatically return to the
normal indication 5 seconds after the last balance adjustment or
when another function is activated.
8FRONT/REAR FADER CONTROL
To adjust the front-rear speaker balance, first select the Fader
modebypressingtheSelectbutton 3sothatthe“FAd”indication
NOTE: Release the buttonas soonas thedisplay changesfrom
frequencytotime(approximately2seconds). Holdingthe
buttoninfortoolongwillputtheunitintotimesettingmode
(flashingtime display). See sectionon“SettingtheClock”.
4BASS CONTROL
To adjust the bass level, first select the Bass mode by pressing
theSelect button 3so thatthe levelnumber abovethe “BASS”
indication is flashing. Within 5 seconds of choosing the Bass
mode, press the +or -side of the Level control 2to adjust the
bass response as desired. The bass level will be shown on the
display panel from a minimum of -7 to a maximum of 7 (0 is flat
response). The display will automatically return to the normal
indication 5 seconds after the last adjustment or when another
function is activated.
5TREBLE CONTROL
To adjust the treble level, first select the Treble mode by pressing
the Select button 3so that the level number above the “TRE”
indication is flashing. Within 5 seconds of choosing the Treble
mode, press the +or -side of the Level control 2to adjust the
trebleresponse as desired. Thetreble levelwill beshownon the
display panel from a minimum of -7 to a maximum of 7 (0 is flat
response). The display will automatically return to the normal
indication 5 seconds after the last adjustment or when another
function is activated.

adjust the front-rear speaker levels as desired. When the level
ofthe front andrear speakersis equal,"0-0" willbe shownonthe
display panel. Adjusting the fader toward the front speakers will
increase the number on the right side of the display to a maxi-
mum of “0-9” (full front). Adjusting the fader toward the rear
speakers will increase the number on the left side of the display
to a maximum of “9-0” (full rear). The display will automatically
return to the normal indication 5 seconds after the last fader
adjustment or when another function is activated.
9AM/FM BAND SELECTOR (BND)
AUTO-STORE TUNING (AS)
During radio operation, each momentary press of this button will
change the radio band. The indication “AM”, “FMI”, or “FMII” will
appear on the display panel according to your selection.
Pressing and holding the button for longer than 2 seconds will
activate the Auto-Store Tuning function which will automatically
scan the AM or FMII bands and enter strong stations into the
pre-set memory positions for that band. If you have already set
the pre-set memories on the AM or FMII bands to your favorite
stations,activating the Auto-Storefeature will erasethose stations
and enter new ones. This feature is most useful when travelling
in a new area where you are not familiar with the local stations.
bl MANUAL UP/DOWN TUNING (TUN+ / TUN-)
AUTOMATIC SEEK TUNING
Each time the +side of the button is tapped, the radio will tune
onefrequency stephigher. Similarly, eachtap of the-sideof the
button will tune one frequency step lower. To manually tune in a
station, tap the button of the appropriate direction until the
desired frequency is reached.
Pressing either side of the button for longer than 0.5 seconds
and then releasing will activate the Automatic Seek Tuning
function in the selected direction. The radio will seek the next
available station and stop at that frequency. The Seek function
can be stopped by pressing the button again or activating any
other tuning function.
Pressingeither side ofthebutton for longerthan0.5 seconds will
cause the radio to continue tuning rapidly in the selected direction
until the button is released, at which point it will seek to the next
availablestation.
bm LOCAL/DISTANT SELECTOR (LO/DX)
This feature is used to select the strength of the signals at which
the radio will stop during Automatic Seek Tuning. Pressing and
holdingthebuttonfortwosecondswillselecttheLocalsetting(“LOC”
will appear on the display panel) and only strong (local) stations
will be received. Pressing and holding the button again for two
secondswill select theDistantsetting (“LOC” willdisappearfrom
the display panel) and the radio will stop at a wider range of
signals, including weaker (more distant) stations.

bn STATION PRE-SET MEMORIES
To set any of the 6 pre-set memories in each band, use the
following procedure:
1. Turn the radio on and select the desired band.
2. Select thefirst stationto bepre-set usingtheManualUp/Down
or Automatic Seek Tuning Controls 9.
3. Press the pre-set button to be set and continue to hold it in.
After approximately 2 seconds, the display will flash, the
volume will be momentarily muted and the pre-set button
number (P1, P2, etc.) will momentarily appear on the display
panel indicating that the station is now set into that pre-set
memory position. The station can now be recalled at any
time by pressing that button.
4.Repeat the aboveprocedurefor the remaining5pre-sets on
that band and for the other 2 bands on the unit.
bo LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY PANEL
The Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) panel displays the frequency,
time, and activated functions.
NOTE: It isa characteristic ofLCD panelsthat, ifsubjected to cold
temperatures for an extended period of time, they may
take longer to illuminate than under normal conditions. In
addition, the visibility of the numbers on the LCD may
slightly decrease. The LCD read-out will return to normal
when the temperature increases to a normal range.

bp CASSETTE DOOR
Hold the cassette with the exposed tape edge to the right and
insert it into the cassette door. Depress fully until the cassette is
engaged and begins playing as shown by the tape direction
indication onthe display panel. When the cassette reaches the
endon theside ofthe tape beingplayed,the unitwill automatically
change direction of play as shown by the direction arrow and
play the other side of the cassette.
NOTE: Observe cassette operation Cautions in the Care and
Maintenance section of this manual.
bq FAST-FORWARD BUTTON (FF)
Pushingthe Fast-Forward button will causethe tapetomoverapidly
in the forward direction of play (tape direction arrow on display
panel will flash). To stop Fast-Forward movement, lightly push
theRewind Button bq untiltheFast-Forward button disengages.
br REWIND BUTTON (REW)
Pushingthe Rewind buttonwillcause the tapetomove rapidly in
the reverse direction of play (opposite tape direction arrow on
display panel will flash). To stop Rewind movement, lightly
pushtheFast-Forwardbuttonbq untilthe Rewindbuttondisengages.

bs PROGRAM SELECTOR (PROG)
To manually reverse tape direction and play the other side
(program)ofthe cassette, lightlypush boththeFast-Forward bq
and Rewind br buttons at the same time. The change of
directionwill be shownbythe tapedirection arrowonthe display
panel.
bt RADIO MONITOR (RM)
This feature allows you to listen to the last selected radio station
during Fast-Forward or Rewind of the cassette. To activate the
function, press the Radio Monitor button (RM). The radio
frequency will be displayed along with the Fast-Forward or
Rewind arrow. Todeactivate the functionpress the buttonagain.
bu EJECT BUTTON ( )
Tape playback is stopped and the cassette is ejected by pressing
thisbutton, which alsohasthe functionof switchingoverto radio
operation.
NOTE:Never leave a cassette engaged in the player when not in
use. Doing so can cause damage to the cassette and/or
mechanismof the unit. Alwayspress theejectbuttonand
remove thecassette beforeremoving the detachablefront
panel.
cl FRONT PANEL RELEASE BUTTON
Thisbutton is usedto releasethe mechanismthat holdsthefront
panel to the chassis. To detach the front panel, press the button
so that the left side of the panel is released. Grasp the released
sideand pull itoffof the chassis. Tore-attach the panel,position
the right side of the panel in place first and then press the left
side of the panel until the mechanism locks it into place.
cm MODE SELECTOR
Pressing this button will cycle through the various playback
modes.

SETTING THE CLOCK
1. Turn the radio on so that the radio frequency or clock time is shown on the display panel.
2. Press and hold the Select button 3approximately 4 seconds until the time display begins flashing.
3. While the time display is still flashing, press the Volume button ( +) to adjust the hours and the Volume button ( – ) to adjust the
minutes to the correct time.
4. When the correct time is shown on the display panel, press the Select button 3again to return to normal display.

NOTES ON USE OF FRONT PANEL
1. Make sure the front panel is right-side-up when attaching it
to the chassis as it cannot be attached when up-side down.
2. Do not press very hard on the front panel when attaching it
to the chassis. No more than light to moderate pressure
should be needed.
3. When attaching the front panel, make sure the right side is
correctly engaged before pressing the left side to lock it into
position.
4. When taking the front panel with you, please use the supplied
carrying case to protect the panel from dirt and damage.
Make sure there is no dust or dirt on the electrical terminals
on the back of the panel as this could cause intermittent
operation or other malfunctions.

Backward Track Select button (TRK–), the next lower track number will
be selected.
cq CUE/REVIEW FUNCTIONS
High-speed audible search to any section of the disc can be made by
the Cue and Review functions. Press and hold the TRK+button to
advance rapidly in the forward direction or the TRK–button to advance
rapidly in the reverse direction. During either function, the elapsed
time within each track will automatically be shown on the display panel.
When the button is released, the CD resumes normal play.
cr PAUSE/PLAY SELECTOR ( II )
During disc play, press this button to temporarily stop play of the disc
("PAUS" will appear on the display panel and flash). Press the button
again to resume play of the disc from the point at which it was stopped.
Pause mode will also be canceled by activating the Disc Select cn and
co, Track Select cp, or Cue/Review cq functions.
cs TRACK/DISC REPEAT (RPT)
When the Repeat button is pressed, play of the selected track will be
continually repeated (“RPT” will appear on the display panel). The
Track Repeat mode will be canceled by pressing the Repeat button
again (“RPT” will disappear from the display panel) or by activating the
Shuffle ct or Scan cu functions
When the Repeat button is pressed and held longer than 2 seconds,
play of the selected disc will be continually repeated (“RPT” and Dwill
appear on the display panel). The Disc Repeat mode will be canceled by
pressing the Repeat button again (“RPT” and D will disappear from
the display panel) or by activating the Shuffle ct or Scan cu functions.
CD CHANGER CONTROLS
Builtinto thisunit arecontrolsto operatean optionalCD changer. Please
check with your Prestige car stereo specialist for recommendations
of the models that will work with this unit.
Adjustment of the audio functions (volume, tone, balance, and fader)
for the CD changer operate in the same manner as they do for radio
and cassette play. The following controls will operate the CD changer
when it is installed and connected to this unit. Refer to the owner’s
manual included with the CD changer for instructions on the instal-
lation and correct loading and use of the CD magazine.
cm MODE SELECTOR
With the CD changer connected to the unit, this button is used to select
CD changer operation. To choose CD mode, press the button until the
indication “DISK TRACK" appears on the display panel. The display
will then change to indicate the disc number and track number. Press
the Mode button again to change back to radio or tape operation.
cn & co DISC SELECT (D+) (D–)
These buttons are used to select the desired disc for play. To advance
to a higher number disc, press the “D+” button co. To return to a lower
number disc, press the “D–” button cn. The number of the selected disc
in play will be shown on the display panel.
cp TRACK SELECT
These buttons are used to quickly select the beginning of a par-
ticular track. With each momentary tap of the Forward Track Select
button (TRK+), the next higher track number will be selected as shown
on the display panel. Similarly, with each momentary tap of the

ct TRACK/DISC SHUFFLE (SHF)
When the Shuffle button is pressed,the tracks on the discwill be played
in a random, shuffled order (“SHF” will appearon the display panel). The
Track Select button cp will also select tracks in the shuffled order instead
ofthe normalprogression. When all trackson the disc havebeen played
in shuffled order, the next disc will be selected in normal order and its
tracks played in shuffled order. The Track Shuffle mode will be canceled
by pressing the Shuffle button again (“SHF” will disappear from the
display panel) or by activating the Repeat cs or Scan cu functions.
When the Shuffle button is pressed and held longer than 2 seconds,
both the discs and the tracks will be played in a random, shuffled order
(“SHF” and Dwill appear on the display panel). After all tracks on the
disc have been played, the changer will select a new disc in shuffled
order and play its tracks in shuffled order. The Disc Shuffle mode will
be canceled by pressing the Shuffle button again (“SHF” and Dwill
disappear from the display panel) or by activating the Repeat cs or
Scan cu functions.
cu TRACK/DISC SCAN (SCAN)
When the Scan button is pressed, the first 10 seconds of each track on
the disc will be played in order (“SCAN” will appear on the display panel
and the track number will flash). When a desired track is reached,
pressthe Scan button again andplay of that track will continue(“SCAN”
will disappear from the display panel and the track number will stop
flashing). The Track Scan mode will also be canceled by activating
the Disc Select cn & co, Track Select cp, Repeat cs, or Shuffle ct
functions.
When the Scan button is pressed and held longer than 2 seconds, the
first 10 seconds of the first track on each disc will be played (“SCAN”
and Dwill appear on the display panel and the disc number will flash).
When a desired disc is reached, press the Scan button again and play
of the disc will continue (“SCAN” and Dwill disappear from the
display panel and the disc number will stop flashing). The Disc Scan
mode will also be canceled by activating the Disc Select cn & co, Track
Select cp, Repeat cs, or Shuffle ct functions.
CD CHANGER ERROR CODES
Ifa problem shoulddevelop whileoperating theCD changer, the
following error codes may appear on the display panel.
EJ: Indicates that there is no magazine loaded in the CD changer.
no_d: Indicates that there are no discs loaded in the CD
magazine in the changer.
E-01, etc.: Indicates an error in the laser reading the disc in slot #1
of the magazine (E-02 for disc in slot #2, etc.). Eject the
magazine, remove the indicated disc and make sure it is
clean, undamaged, and loaded correctly (label side up or
down as per CD changer owner’s manual). Clean and
re-load the disc(s) as appropriate and check for proper
operation or try another disc.
E-95: Indicates a communication error between the radio and
CD changer. Check the connections and cable of the
changer.
E-99: Indicates excessive temperature conditions at the CD
changer. The error code will go off and play will resume
when the temperature at the changer returns to a
normal range.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE
The radio portion of your new sound system does not require any maintenance. We recommend you keep this manual for
future reference of the many features found in this unit.
As with any cassette player, the cassette section of this sound system does require a minimum of maintenance to keep it
in good working condition. The following simple care and maintenance suggestions should be followed to prevent
malfunctions of the cassette system.
CASSETTE CARE:
1. Purchase a cassette cleaning kit from your local retail store. Use it! At least every 20 to 30 hours of operation you must
clean the cassette mechanism. A dirty cassette player will have a poor sound.
2. Do not use cassettes that exceed 45 minutes of play on each side.
3. Do not insert a cassette that appears to be broken, twisted or dirty or with loose or torn labels on it.
4. Always keep your cassettes away from direct sunlight or exposure to sub-freezing conditions. If a cassette is cold, allow
it to warm up before use.
5. Do not keep a cassette in the player when not in use.
6. Before inserting a cassette in the player, check that the tape is tightly wound on the reels. Take up any excess slack
using a pencil to turn the drive hub in the cassette (see diagram below).
